This project helped an NGO which is Head Quartered in the US; track in real time, their development programs running in remotest villages of Africa.

1. Survey Data Analysis Using
Klipfolio
Integrating AkvoFlow with Klipfolio

2. Problem
Real-time presentation of survey data from the remotest parts of Africa on the
screens of California HQs.
An NGO survey team is using open source custom tool called AkvoFLOW . The
unique feature of AkvoFLOW is that it is a distinctive data gathering mobile
application, which does not rely on any form of digital data-transfer mechanism
for collecting data-points. The survey teams only need to carry a charged cell
phone device for collecting data. Once network range becomes available, the
data can be uploaded on FLOW database server .
However the AkvoFLOW offered limited data analysis capability with pre built
graphical summary which had to be manually generated by logging into the tool.
Hence in its current form , survey data provided restricted insights to program
performance and remained confined to the tool within reach of few individuals.

3. Solution
 Phase I – Mapping the requirements or program KPIs with Survey Records, was the
first step to integrate AkvoFLOW and Klipfolio. This ‘Define’ phase was the most
complicated and critical part of implementation as sometimes for derive a single
metric navigation through as many as 12 survey form was needed.
 Phase II - Next specific APIs were constructed to extract the data from AkvoFLOW
servers . These APIs were written in Java and the application was hosted on
Google App Engine.
 Phase III- To display the latest results , data sync was scheduled at periodic
intervals with klipfolio servers.

4. Benefits
Klipfolio improved the visibility of program performance in company HQs, thereby
improving the overall effectiveness. Its easy to use features help slice and dice
data in ways not possible in earlier system by creating specific graphical summary
for the program KPIs . Klipfolio has great sync features building a reliable and
seamless integration with servers.
