4. In the past simple two kinds of verbs are regular
verbs and irregular verbs are identified.

5. Regular verbs have three rules to know:
1) When a regular verb ends in E only added to
form last D : Dance – danced, love – loved
2) When a regular verb ends Y It is preceded by a
consonant changes Y for I and you add ed.

3) When a regular verb is monosyllabic and ends
with a consonant preceded by a single vowel and
consonant doubles add ed: Stop – stopped, Shop
- Shopped, Prefer - Preferred
6. IRREGULAR VERBS
are those whose present, past and past participles
can be different or the same
They are classified into 4 groups:
1) When its three forms are equal:

2) When his three forms are different:
Go went gone
Do did done

their past is different.

4) When his past and past participle are the same but

8. STRUCTURE OF THE SENTENCES IN THE
SIMPLE PAST TENSE.
AFFIRMATIVE SENTENCES:
Pronoun + verb +complement.
She learnend a lot of words in that course
He taught the simple past tense
I played tennis last summer
INTERROGATIVE SENTENCES:
With negative and interrogative sentences the assistant
did that besides being the verb do, is also an assistant
appears.
9. Did + pronoun +verb + complement.
Did she learn a lot of words in that course?
Paul didn't go to school today. ---> Didn't Paul go to
school today?
My mother liked this game. ---> Did my mother like
this game?
They wanted to call Lucy. ---> Did they want to call
Lucy?
10. Nota:
Obsérvese que al aparecer el did el verbo va en
presente.

NEGATIVE SENTENCES:
Pronoun + did + not +verb +complement
Did not = didn`t
Paul didn't go to school today. (Paul no fue a la
escuela hoy)
11. My mother didn't like this game (A mi mamá no le gustó

No matter what person singular or plural is the subject,
we will always use didn’t
