Helvetica is one of the most popular and iconic typefaces of the 20th century. It emerged from Switzerland in the 1950s and 1960s as part of the International Typographic Style, which featured an asymmetrical grid layout, objective photography, flush-left text set in sans-serif typography. Originally designed as Akzidenz Grotesk in the late 19th century and later released as Helvetica in 1957, its popularity is largely due to its neutral, non-personality design that works well for many uses coupled with good timing that made it widely adopted.
