PRODUCT BROCHURE OF AGRI COMMODITIES
1. CASTOR SEED: - Castor plant (Ricinus communis) is grown in arid and semi-arid regions
in India. It is a kharif crop, sowing in July-August and arrivals from December
onwards till March. Bag packed of castor seed contains 75kg by weight. Manufacturing
of soaps, lubricants, hydraulic and brake fluids, paints, dyes, coatings, inks, cold resistant
plastics, waxes and polishes, nylon, pharmaceuticals and perfumes. Castor oil is the
largest vegetable oil exported out of India. India is the biggest exporter of castor oil
holding about 70% share of the international trade in this commodity followed by China &
Brazil.
2. CEREALS: - Cereals are important ingredients of everyone’s meal and price variations.
Barley, Maize and Wheat (BMW) are three cereals traded on the leading national agri
commodity exchange of the country, NCDEX.
3. BARLEY- production of Barley which is grown in Rabi season has varied in the range of
1.20 to 1.69 million MT in the last decade. Barley malt is mostly used in the production of
alcoholic beverages in the country. Plantation in October and November. Harvesting in
April and May.
4. MAIZE- Maize is a Kharif as well as Rabi crop, India gets a greater part of the total maize
production from Kharif season crop. In Kharif, Plantation in May and June. Harvesting in
October and November. In Rabi, Plantation in October and November. Harvesting in April
and May.
5. WHEAT- India is the second largest producer of Wheat in the world after China. Wheat is
a major food grain crop grown in Rabi season in India. Plantation in October and
November. Harvesting in April and May.

6. CHANA: - Chana, also called Bengal gram or chick pea. India is the largest consumer
and producer of chana in the world. The two popular varieties of chana in India are Desi
and Kabuli. Chana is a Rabi crop sown during the winter months in India. The peak arrival
period is March - April at the mandis in India. Sowing time is Oct, Nov, Dec. Harvest time
is Feb, march and April.
7. COTTON: - Cotton is one of the major Cash Crop of India. Being a fiber crop, it is
primarily used as a raw material for textile industry. Because of its wide scale of usage,
it happens to be one of the most traded commodities in the World. India invariably ranks
2nd/ 3rd in terms of production, and is also the 2nd largest exporter in the world.
8. COTTON SEED OILCAKE: - Cotton seed oilcake is a major source of livestock feed.
Harvesting time is Nov, Dec, Jan and February. Sowing time is march, April, may, June
and July and Growth time is Aug and September.
9. SOYBEAN: - Soybean is an important global crop and processed soybean is the largest
source of protein feed and second largest source of vegetable oil in the world. Modern
soybean varieties generally reach a height of around 1 m (3 ft), and take about 80-120
days from sowing to harvesting. Harvesting time is Sep, Oct and Nov. Sowing time is
June, July and Growth time is Aug.
10.SUGAR: - Sugar is produced in 115 countries and is extracted from either Sugar cane or
Sugar beet; around 70% of the world sugar is extracted from Sugar cane. Sugar cane
thrives well under tropical climates. Sugar season in India starts from October and ends in
September. Sugarcane crop in Maharashtra is classified under three categories

depending on the season in which they are sown: Adsali (18 month crop); Pre-monsoon
(15 month crop); Suru (12 month crop). Sugar marketing year in India starts from October
and extends till September. Major crushing period is November to April.
11.GUAR COMPLEX: - Guar seed is mainly used for human consumption, cattle feed,
medicinal purposes and also for soil improvement. The immature pods are dried and fried
as chips, and the green pods are also cooked for human consumption. The most
important industrial use of Guar Seed is in the form of Guar Gum. Manufacturing of gum
from its beans gives such astonishing results that it is considered `white gold'.
12.SPICES COMPLEX: - India is the leading producer, consumer and exporter of spices in
the world. From time immemorial India has been known as the Land of Spices.
13.RAP MUSTERED SEED: - Mustard seeds (Brassica Napus) also known as Rape,
Oilseed rape, Rapeseeds and Canola are very widely cultivated throughout the world. The
seeds can come from three different plants: black mustard, brown Indian mustard, and
white mustard. Mustard seed is the third leading source of vegetable oil in the world after

Soya bean oil and palm oil. It is basically a winter crop, requiring a temperate climate to
prosper. The planting season or the sowing period in India is during the Rabi season i.e.
October to November. The crop starts flowering in the months of November, December,
January and February. The harvesting period is from February to March.
