BAG TECHNIQUES
INTODUCTION:
The major aim of the health care services in the home is to help people with their health
problems and works with them towards keeping the family healthy. When performing home
visit the community health nurses should carry the community health bag i.e., general nursing kit
bag.
MEANING:
COMMUNITY:
A group of species who reside in a designated geographical area and who share common interest
or bonds.
BAG:
It is a flexible, or dilated sac or pouch designed to contain needed article to carry from one place
to other place to do the health related services to the people.
DEFINITION:
BAG TECHNIQUE:
Bag is a vehicle for carrying the materials and equipments needed during home visit to attend
family ,school and factory health care needs.The bag should be made of strong but light weight
materials.
PURPOSE:
1. To carry out nursing procedure in home.
2. 2.To carried the necessary articles the bags.
3. To performing minor dressing
4. To conduct delivery in emergency situations.
5. To do the assessement of the different community people like newborn, infant, toddler,
preschool, school-going,adolescence and adults.
6. To do card care for the newborn child.
7. To do cooking demonstrations in the community setup.
8. To check the temperature.
9. To check the vital signs.
10. To do the collection and transportation of sample.
11. To treat minor ailments.
12. To practice the family planning services.
13. To check the antenatal and post natal assessment.
14. To detect the nutritional deficiency
15. To provide the health education to the community.
COMPARTMENTS OF BAG:
i. Outer compartment.
ii. Front compartment.
iii. Inner compartment.
iv. Lower compartment.
PRINCIPLES:
1. Cleanliness:
2. Hand washing
3. Clean of bag
4. Protecting and taking care of bag.
5. Keep the instruments after sterilization
6. Protect the bag away from the contamination
7. Keep the bag safety from children
8. Keep the bag away from the animals and others.
9. Avoid the cross infection from the place.
10. Keep the bag always upper surface area.
11. Handling the bag very essentially
12. Remove the unnecessary articles from the bag.
PROCEDURE:
 Select the a work area where the bag may be set without danger being contaminated.e.g.,
chrpoy, verandah.
 Place the bag on a clean surface or piece of news paper or plastic sheet.
 Prepare a clean surface and upper surface for placing the equipment to be used.
 After spreading the newspaper, keep the bag at the corner of the paper.
 If your going to do the procedure keep the bag in full size newspaper. Otherwise make
half size newspaper keep the bag above that and carry out other than bag technique
procedure.
 Remove the inner compartment half-way fold backside.
 To keep it ready to touch the inner compartment after hand washing procedure.
 Remove the necessary article form front compartment.
 Remove the hand washing articles from lower compartment for hand washing
procedure.
 Before going to do hand washing check the bag technique area arranged according to the
sequence way of procedure.
 Take the hand washing articles go to hand washing place. Wash the hands under poured
water or tap water. Wash the hands with bacteriostatic soap if available.
 After hands washing , open the bag and take only needed articles from the bag and close
the bag in half –way.
 Don’t the display the bag fully to outer environment because it cross infection from the
home.
 Don’t open the bag inner compartment unnecessary.
 Give the nursing procedure as indicated according to the need that is shown during a
visit and by records.
 When the procedure is over, placing the soiled swabs inside the paper bag for disposable
by burning or any other suitable method.
 After the procedure, wash hands with soap and water.
 Return articles to the bag- use a cotton swab moistened with spirit and wipe outside of
used bottles and other articles taken from the inner compartment.
 Other instrument like dressing kit, delivery kit etc. wash and boil all the instruments if
possible collect itand take back to health centre for disinfection.
 Check all the articles from inner compartment replaced with clean technique or not.
 Close the bag(inner compartment)
 Go to hand washing area. Wash the hands . Bring the hands washing articles near to the
bag and replace it.
 Close the bag ( lower compartment)
 Replace the articles from front compartment.
 Record the procedure.
 Take all the articles brought to the home visit.
 Carry the bag in left shoulder. Fold the used newspaper or plastic sheet with exposed
side innermost and keep it in the outside pocket of the bag.
 Inform the family to keep a watch it till next visit.
CARE OF THE BAG:
 In order to keep the nursing bag in readiness for use at all times.
 The nurse should empty the contents and clean the bag at least once a week or more often
depending on horn much it is used.
 Wash the bag with soap and water
 Dry it in the sun light.
 While emptying the contents, check the expendable items like gloves, catheter,
thermometer ,glass articles for being broken or spoiled.
 After drying, the bag should be re-equipped with articles, drug and sterile dressing and
other articles.
 Nowdays, a number of disposable equipments,needed to perform certain simple nursing
procedure are available in the markets.
 Uses the disposable items according to the uses, requirements and precausions.If any
tearing of the bag, to stich it properly for ready to use all times.
 Check the bag daily for proper care of the bag.
CARE OF EQUIPMENTS
 Bag: Leather bag to be washed with soap and water.
 Canvas bag to be washed and dried.
 Rubber goods: sterilized by boiling for 10 minutes; but disposable gloves are disposed by
sanitary method.
 Thermometer: Soked in antiseptic lotion.
 Glass bottles: Sterilized in boiled water.
 Enamelor steel items: 20 minutes boiling required.
 Cord ligature: Pre-sterilized pack is available; otherwise thread is boiled for 20minutes; it
is handled with sterile forceps and scrubbed hands.
 Eye drop: Opened ones are used within 10 days; later to be discarded and a new one is to
be procured.
 Dry dressing and swabs: Autoclaved material is carried and used ones are disposed by
burning.
 Instruments: Sterilization produce learnt is followe.
 Weighing machine: check regularly functioning or not.
 Other instrument: B.P apparatus foetoscope and stethoscope is handled properly.
 A-V aids materials: Cover with plastic sheet or polythene cover.
PRECAUTIONS:
1. Check the bag before leaving for home visit.
2. No meddling of the content without washing hands.
3. Open only when required.
4. Bag should be kept at the proper place.
5. Bag should be thoroughly cleaned.
6. It free from dustand disinfected.
7. Personal items should not kept in the bag.
8. It is essential to change the bag from time to time.
9. Soiled and dirty things should be properly disinfected.
10. Work done should be recorded in the family folder or daily register.

Bag techniques

  • 1. BAG TECHNIQUES INTODUCTION: The major aim of the health care services in the home is to help people with their health problems and works with them towards keeping the family healthy. When performing home visit the community health nurses should carry the community health bag i.e., general nursing kit bag. MEANING: COMMUNITY: A group of species who reside in a designated geographical area and who share common interest or bonds. BAG: It is a flexible, or dilated sac or pouch designed to contain needed article to carry from one place to other place to do the health related services to the people. DEFINITION: BAG TECHNIQUE: Bag is a vehicle for carrying the materials and equipments needed during home visit to attend family ,school and factory health care needs.The bag should be made of strong but light weight materials. PURPOSE: 1. To carry out nursing procedure in home. 2. 2.To carried the necessary articles the bags. 3. To performing minor dressing 4. To conduct delivery in emergency situations. 5. To do the assessement of the different community people like newborn, infant, toddler, preschool, school-going,adolescence and adults. 6. To do card care for the newborn child. 7. To do cooking demonstrations in the community setup. 8. To check the temperature. 9. To check the vital signs. 10. To do the collection and transportation of sample. 11. To treat minor ailments. 12. To practice the family planning services.
  • 2. 13. To check the antenatal and post natal assessment. 14. To detect the nutritional deficiency 15. To provide the health education to the community. COMPARTMENTS OF BAG: i. Outer compartment. ii. Front compartment. iii. Inner compartment. iv. Lower compartment. PRINCIPLES: 1. Cleanliness: 2. Hand washing 3. Clean of bag 4. Protecting and taking care of bag. 5. Keep the instruments after sterilization 6. Protect the bag away from the contamination 7. Keep the bag safety from children 8. Keep the bag away from the animals and others. 9. Avoid the cross infection from the place. 10. Keep the bag always upper surface area. 11. Handling the bag very essentially 12. Remove the unnecessary articles from the bag. PROCEDURE:  Select the a work area where the bag may be set without danger being contaminated.e.g., chrpoy, verandah.  Place the bag on a clean surface or piece of news paper or plastic sheet.  Prepare a clean surface and upper surface for placing the equipment to be used.  After spreading the newspaper, keep the bag at the corner of the paper.  If your going to do the procedure keep the bag in full size newspaper. Otherwise make half size newspaper keep the bag above that and carry out other than bag technique procedure.  Remove the inner compartment half-way fold backside.  To keep it ready to touch the inner compartment after hand washing procedure.  Remove the necessary article form front compartment.  Remove the hand washing articles from lower compartment for hand washing procedure.  Before going to do hand washing check the bag technique area arranged according to the sequence way of procedure.
  • 3.  Take the hand washing articles go to hand washing place. Wash the hands under poured water or tap water. Wash the hands with bacteriostatic soap if available.  After hands washing , open the bag and take only needed articles from the bag and close the bag in half –way.  Don’t the display the bag fully to outer environment because it cross infection from the home.  Don’t open the bag inner compartment unnecessary.  Give the nursing procedure as indicated according to the need that is shown during a visit and by records.  When the procedure is over, placing the soiled swabs inside the paper bag for disposable by burning or any other suitable method.  After the procedure, wash hands with soap and water.  Return articles to the bag- use a cotton swab moistened with spirit and wipe outside of used bottles and other articles taken from the inner compartment.  Other instrument like dressing kit, delivery kit etc. wash and boil all the instruments if possible collect itand take back to health centre for disinfection.  Check all the articles from inner compartment replaced with clean technique or not.  Close the bag(inner compartment)  Go to hand washing area. Wash the hands . Bring the hands washing articles near to the bag and replace it.  Close the bag ( lower compartment)  Replace the articles from front compartment.  Record the procedure.  Take all the articles brought to the home visit.  Carry the bag in left shoulder. Fold the used newspaper or plastic sheet with exposed side innermost and keep it in the outside pocket of the bag.  Inform the family to keep a watch it till next visit. CARE OF THE BAG:  In order to keep the nursing bag in readiness for use at all times.  The nurse should empty the contents and clean the bag at least once a week or more often depending on horn much it is used.  Wash the bag with soap and water  Dry it in the sun light.  While emptying the contents, check the expendable items like gloves, catheter, thermometer ,glass articles for being broken or spoiled.  After drying, the bag should be re-equipped with articles, drug and sterile dressing and other articles.  Nowdays, a number of disposable equipments,needed to perform certain simple nursing procedure are available in the markets.
  • 4.  Uses the disposable items according to the uses, requirements and precausions.If any tearing of the bag, to stich it properly for ready to use all times.  Check the bag daily for proper care of the bag. CARE OF EQUIPMENTS  Bag: Leather bag to be washed with soap and water.  Canvas bag to be washed and dried.  Rubber goods: sterilized by boiling for 10 minutes; but disposable gloves are disposed by sanitary method.  Thermometer: Soked in antiseptic lotion.  Glass bottles: Sterilized in boiled water.  Enamelor steel items: 20 minutes boiling required.  Cord ligature: Pre-sterilized pack is available; otherwise thread is boiled for 20minutes; it is handled with sterile forceps and scrubbed hands.  Eye drop: Opened ones are used within 10 days; later to be discarded and a new one is to be procured.  Dry dressing and swabs: Autoclaved material is carried and used ones are disposed by burning.  Instruments: Sterilization produce learnt is followe.  Weighing machine: check regularly functioning or not.  Other instrument: B.P apparatus foetoscope and stethoscope is handled properly.  A-V aids materials: Cover with plastic sheet or polythene cover. PRECAUTIONS: 1. Check the bag before leaving for home visit. 2. No meddling of the content without washing hands. 3. Open only when required. 4. Bag should be kept at the proper place. 5. Bag should be thoroughly cleaned. 6. It free from dustand disinfected. 7. Personal items should not kept in the bag. 8. It is essential to change the bag from time to time. 9. Soiled and dirty things should be properly disinfected. 10. Work done should be recorded in the family folder or daily register.
