RWT exercise 5 (x2—double credit, 8 points)
Due at the beginning of class Tuesday, May 17, in hardcopy.
Now, please write a “discovery draft”of your paper here, entirely in your own words, without consulting any sources. In other words, after writing an intro (see video posted today) that includes your stance and criteria, plug your topic into each criterion (you should have 3-4) and go through the process of explaining how it fits each one. This is your chance to explain your opinion. Be specific, give examples, and go into as much detail as you can without sources. Per criterion, let’s shoot for 150 words, so this exercise should be 450-600 words. Remember, this is effort based, only.
For example, if I am evaluating Chipotle as a restaurant with a target audience of families with kids, and one of my criterion is “atmosphere,” I would write in detail about the noise, the seating, safety, and other things, showing my readers specific examples, details, etc.
And if I am evaluating a horror film like House of.

“atmosphere,” I would write in detail about the noise, the
seating, safety, and other things, showing my readers specific
examples, details, etc.
And if I am evaluating a horror film like House of 1000 Corpses
as potential “Oscar-worthy art,” and one criterion is that it
“represents the true depths of human evil,” I will explain and
then show examples of how it represents this beyond any
sensationalism.
You do not have to write a conclusion.

RWT exercise 2 Due May 16 in
hardcopy.
Please complete the following:
(1) What is your (qualitative) working thesis statement for the
topic you want to evaluate?
(2) Who is your target audience for this evaluation, and in what
ways might this audience potentially disagree with your stance?
Who else would disagree with your stance (or provide
counterarguments for it)? Why and how? Be specific.
(3) What 3-4 pieces of criteria will you use to evaluate this
topic? Why is each appropriate for your target audience?
Explain in a sentence or two for each.
RWT exercise 1
Please list, along with a one-sentence explanation of each, six
possible pieces of specific criteria you could use to
evaluateeach of two topics that you most want to use (twelve
7. total pieces, in other words—six for each).
Then, answer this question for each topic: would your
evaluation be mostly positive or negative?
Finally, for each topic, list out several different potential target
audiences based upon your answer to the last question.
Remember, there is no argument if your target audience would
already agree with you for the most part.
Due in hardcopy at the beginning of class May 16.
