2. • Erasmus+ is the new EU programme for education, training, youth and sport that will replace the
Lifelong Learning Programme (Leonardo, Comenius, Grundtvig, Erasmus and Jean Monnet actions),
Youth in Action and five other international programmes starting from 2014.
This new programme will focus on formal and informal learning across EU borders to improve the
skills and employability of students, educators and workers. It will reflect the priorities of the Europe
2020 strategy and its flagship initiatives.
• The European Commission is proposing a budget that is almost 70% higher than the current budget
with an increase in the number of projects and in flat-rate grants, in order to simplify the management
of the programme. Coming to the structure, Erasmus+ will be an integrated programme, based around
Key Actions rather than sectors of education. These will be: Learning Mobility, Co-Operation and
Policy Reform.
• This is where our Project belongs to.
• Key Action 2 will provide direct opportunities for stakeholders to make new peer learning
exchanges of practices through partnerships within and across countries and sectors, but also to
benefit from the other two Key Actions (Mobility and Policy reform) and build bridges between
Erasmus+ and other national or European programmes, in particular the European Structural and
Investment Funds.
3. WHO ARE OUR PARTNERS?
• Germany. Our first partner is a school from Viersen, near Mönchengladbach,
and the Dutch Border.
4. United Kingdom. The second partner is a school from Peterborough, near
Cambridge. They coordinate the whole Project.
5. Our Project is Based on "Sharing Heritage" - European Cultural Heritage
Year 2018.
The programme focus for the European Year is "Society in Transition'', which reflects
ongoing and diverse social change in Europe and makes c!ear that the discussion
should focus on people. We will then deal with the situation of refugees in Europe, in
our case in Spain, in our region.
6. WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO?
• The Focus, the “final product” will be:
• To write and compose a musical.
• The idea would be to focus around 3 immigrants (1 in Spain, Germany and England)
and their experiences of having to move and start again in a new country where they
do not necessarily speak the language or know anyone. The one thing they have in
common in their love of music. The play would show their struggles and successes in
integrating into a new society and their internal struggle to marry the two cultures
together. Through the European partnership (Erasmus+), the 3 immigrants finally
meet at a musical event, they cannot speak to each other as they don’t speak each
other’s language, but this does not matter, as they all have the language of music
which allows them to unite in friendship and creativity.
Our Project is called: FROM SYMBOLS
TO SYMPHONIES
7. Tasks before the visit:
• Identify Spanish charities (and regional ones) that are working with refugees
arriving from North Africa (and Syrian or refugees from other nationalities) who
would be happy to meet Erasmus + students to talk about the challenges and
successes.
• Participating students would identify music and dance genres that could be used
(any musical genre).
Tasks during the visit:
• Students research the issue.
• Students meet with the charity to gain more information about how the crisis is
affecting Spain.
• Students meet and interview immigrants to find out about their experiences
(probably organised through the charity).
• Students write poems/stories/tales based on the interviews with the immigrants.
• Students participate in Latin dance lessons.
8. • Regarding the “musical”, we still have to decide about the story: are the three
partners writing the story?, are we just going to write a part of it?, when are
we going to start doing it? what music/songs/choreography are we going to
use? Etc.
