IBM is introducing a software defined network for virtual environments to address new trends in IT like cloud, social, mobile, and the internet of things. The network has become a bottleneck with the massive scale, rapid pace of change, and complexity of heterogeneous environments. IBM's solution uses software defined environments with application-aware definition, policy-based automation, and analytics to optimize resource allocation of compute, storage, and networks on demand. The IBM software defined network for virtual environments provides a unified architecture combining network virtualization and OpenFlow fabrics supported by OpenStack integration.
