What is a gerund?
Gerund is a verbal ending with –
ing, but, it works as a noun and
can act as a subject, subjective
complement, object of the
preposition, direct object and
appositive in a sentence.

Task 3 GIVING IT A TRY!
Study the paragraph. Identify the
use of the underlined gerunds by
choosing the letter of your
answer from the box.
Helping people is a
responsibility of every citizen ,
I believe . And I used to help
everyone I could. I enjoyed the
feeling I got when I reversed a
stranger’s awful day and turned
into something good. I’ve learned
better since then. Don’t get me
wrong; I still agree with and
practice the concept, but I’m
much more adept at it now that I
have gained experienced. Even
though, I was the rescuer, it
seemed like I always had to pay a
personal price for being kind to
people. After suffering much
heartache embarrassing episodes,
and personal loss, I’ve learned
giving help to my fellow human
being can be a risky endeavor if
not approached correctly.

Please be seated now and get ready for our lesson/Preliminary activity. b. Reading Sentences Alright class, read after me the following sentences below. 1. She likes writing love stories. Direct Object 2. Writing love stories is her favorite hobby. Subject 3. She is writing love stories for everyone. Subjective Complement 4. Her favorite hobby, writing love stories, is remarkable.   • 3. B. Lesson Proper Task 1 MOTIVATION Alright, class! I have here pictures. What can you say about these pictures? Read the following sentences that follow. Lyka’s favorite exercise is jogging. Exercising is good for our health. Merla keeps herself in good shape by dancing. Manny Pacquiao does boxing in the gym twice a week My only exercise, walking, is not taxing. Task 2. READ, READ THE SENTENCES Alright, class! Read the following sentences and study each. 1. Riding a roller coaster scares my little brother. 2. Sophia likes jumping on the trampoline. 3. Kylie’s main interest is working with computers. 4. Janice got a ticket for running a red light. 5. A philanthropist, giving financial assistance to the poor, is a noble deed. Alright, class! 1. What do you noticed about the underlined words? 2. What do you call a word that derived from a verb? 3. What name do we give to a verbal ending –ing used as a noun? 4. How is gerund used in a sentence? Varied responses

Gerund is a verbal ending with – ing, but, it works as a noun and can act as a subject, subjective complement, object of the preposition, direct object and appositive in a sentence. 3. Application (Group activity): Task 3 GIVING IT A TRY! Study the paragraph. Identify the use of the underlined gerunds by choosing the letter of your answer from the box. Helping people is a responsibility of every citizen , I believe . And I used to help everyone I could. I enjoyed the feeling I got when I reversed a stranger’s awful day and turned into something good. I’ve learned better since then. Don’t get me wrong; I still agree with and practice the concept, but I’m much more adept at it now that I have gained experienced. Even though, I was the rescuer, it seemed like I always had to pay a personal price for being kind to people. After suffering much heartache embarrassing episodes, and personal loss, I’ve learned giving help to my fellow human being can be a risky endeavor if not approached correctly. Task 4 – HONING SKILLS  Write the gerunds. Then explain its use in each sentence. 1. Helping a friend is an automatic yes in your book. 2. He dislikes doing homework. 3. My least favorite chore is cleaning the bathroom. 4. Are you tired of studying? 5. She hates going out at night. Varied responses

Use/perform the following activities to construct sentences using gerund and its uses. 5.1 Use the gerund phrases to construct sentences using its varied uses. Write it in a ½ crosswise. 5.2 Convert the following verbs to gerund and construct them into sentences according to the uses of gerund. Write it in a ½ crosswise 5.3 Write a 2 or 3 paragraphs based on your experiences in school or at home using gerund and its varied uses in the sentences. Write it in a ½ crosswise. 5.4 Construct 5 sentences using gerund and its varied uses each. Use different verbs in constructing the sentences. Write it in a ½ crosswise 5.5 With the given picture, construct sentences using gerund and its varied uses. Write it in a ½ crosswise Task 5.B-PRESENTATION OF OUTPUTS  Students will present their outputs in class. ASSIGNMENT Make your own ten (10) examples of gerund phrases. Construct them into sentences and identify each use. Write it in a ½ crosswise.
