1. COMPARE AND CONTRAST– OLIVER TWIST
INTRODUCTION
Everyone is aware that books have a richer backstory and more intrigues than a film, and that is
natural due to the length of the book compared to the film. But why does everyone always say
that the book was better than the film, even though, the film is way more focused and fast paced?
Is it really that big of a difference between the book and the film? I will use this compare and
contrast essay to try and explain in which way the Oliver Twist book is both very similar and very
different from the film adaptation of Oliver Twist. I will also try to explain why people generally
think that the book is better than the film.
BODY
Story
The novel Oliver Twist is a fictional story about an orphan who is at the lowest level in society and
how he accidentally gets into a gang of pickpockets and criminals. It starts out...show more content...
That is why Brownlow is talking to Nancy in the film unlike in the novel where Rose Maylie is
talking to Nancy on the bridge. It is impossible for Rose to talk to Nancy on the bridge in the film
because she was never introduced.
The differences in this scene are a product of the different timelines, once again. This contrast is not
very significant because the outcome is the same for both the film and the novel.
I would like to end up with saying that I thought the novel was better than the film and I will
explain why I think so and why I think others think likewise. It has to do with the fact that the more
focused the content becomes, the less room is left for the significant side facts so to speak. What I
am trying to say is that the film makes no sense over why Fagin wants Oliver back again. But if you
have read the book you know they want him back because Oliver's half–brother Monks has payed
Fagin to keep Oliver in a life of crime so Monks can receive all of their parents'

2. There are two types of learning systems most commonly used in the world, Online learning and
Traditional classroom teaching. Online learning is basically a system which involves electronic
media and information. In simple it is getting training and communication research through
electronic media. It would not be wrong to call online learning, the 'future of education'. Online
learning does have some weak points, but the solutions that have been provided are more than
enough to cover up the cons. Online learning system is not perfect, it has some deficiencies, but
it's definitely the system of the future. Many people still prefer traditional universities as the best
way to get knowledge and a degree but online education is also a good proven alternative. Through
online education students can study in the environment they find comfortable and the time they are
free. All of this is for free as most online course which universities offer don't have any fee or if
some courses have then that is very less as compared to the price of normal course at a university.
This is the reason which gives online education an edge over traditional classroom learning. By using

with complete flexibility. This is ideal for those with unconventional work hours, those working full
time, serving in the military or those raising a family. Moreover, the traditional method of lectures,
books and desks may not be the optimum learning environment for every student. In a New York
Times article, experts declared that the real promise of online education is "providing learning
experiences that are more tailored to individual students than is possible in classrooms," which in
turn fosters the concept of "learning by doing." Many students find this engagement more useful and

3. Compare and Contrast Two Leaders
INTRODUCTION
This essay will compare and contrast the characteristics of two of America's female leaders. In
analysing the effectiveness of their leadership, this essay will evaluate the traits, personality,
history, experience, and values of each leader. The ability to bring people together around shared
beliefs and a common organisational purpose to create a sense of belonging is a prerequisite for an
effective leader and will formulate the basis of defining an effective leader for the purpose of this
paper.
Sarah Louise Heath Palin was named by Time Magazine as one of the world's top leaders for 2010.

Oprah Winfrey was not born into leadership but to the contrary, she brought herself to where she is
today due to her determination, good will and her strength. Having lived through a very hard
childhood which pushed her to her limits, but that didn't stop her, she used that as a reason to make
success and break the mould.
Leadership is a process as demonstrated by the accomplishments of Oprah as she has used her
television series; her network; her magazine and her brand to evaluate her life and experiences
and espouse positive ideals to followers. The development of her brand has been possible to the
evolution of her belief system and business acumen. As a leader, entrepreneur and manger Oprah
has demonstrated that leadership is not innate nor is it static but rather a dynamic process of
evolution. One cannot deny that in evaluating her leadership style and success one notes that she
has inspired a wide cross section of persons and as such is able to action and manage much change
for individuals, groups and her own company and brand. Oprah has been able to effectively lead her
company and groups of followers thanks to her adaptive leadership skills; where she is constantly
evaluating the potential of new options but bearing in mind the implications on her brand but also
others. Oprah's strength as a leader has resulted from her continuous intent to build networks around

Introduction
Education is widely accepted to be an essential part of people's lives. It is generally agreed that
education helps people to develop their own personalities, by acquiring new knowledge, using
different sources. An American philosopher John Dewey (n.d) claimed: "Education is a social
process. Education...show more content...
Students in the USA are dissimilar to students of the UK that they start high school right away after
middle school, when they reach 14 years. American high school consists of 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th
grades, which are also known as freshman, sophomore, junior and senior. In the USA there are also
Honours, Advanced Placement, and International Baccalaureate classes that are more rigid and the
load of homework is much greater (USA Study Guide, 2007). The transition from middle to high
school is challenging indeed because the type of education that is used in each institution is very
different. At high school students not only acquire knowledge, but also get some experience, which
is very useful for them in future.
Secondly, the UK and the USA have totally different examinations for the students. GCSE and
A–level are the main exams in the UK, whereas the USA has its own method of assessment, which
is called GPA. GCSE is the General Certificate of Secondary Education. It is a two–year study
course for 15–16 years students. Usually British students pass GSCE exam when they reach the age
of 16. GCSE is essential for students who want to take further examinations, such as AS/A–levels
and enter the university or a college of higher education (Kozma, 2010).
Besides, GCSE gives you a chance to assess your knowledge and skills and help you to define your
weak points and how you can

World War I began with the assassination of Franz Ferdinand, the Austrian prince heir to the
throne, who, on a worldwide scale, was not a very important figure. Yet the complex system of
alliances forced the world into war as it had never seen before, only to be outdone after only
twenty years of peace, by a second world war, caused in many ways by the unfinished business of
World War I. Nationalism was center to both of the causes of these wars. Nationalism gave nations
a need to build great armies and defend their land with great enthusiasm. When Germany became
too powerful, other European nations felt the need to stop this expanding power, starting World
War I. Germany lost, and was forced to sign the Treaty of Versailles losing huge amounts of land,
military forces, money and more, as well as taking the blame for the war. Although causing
temporary peace, Germany, with the help of radical thinker Adolf Hitler playing off of German's
lost pride, remembered its nationalism, and began to systematically break the rules set down at the
Treaty of Versailles. European nations, busy elsewhere, did nothing to stop Germany's actions until it
was too late, and another, more devastating world war would have to ensue to control the powerful
Germany.
World War I was called the "Great War" while it occurred, and during the short years of peace
afterwards. But that name was

7. Comparison Of Two Films: Essay
In that paper, I will try to compare two films which are "A Birth of a Nation" directed by
D.W.Griffith and "The Bicycle Thieves" directed by De Sica. After giving the story of the films, I
will try to explain their technical features and their similarities.
A Birth of a Nation by D. W.Griffith
Griffith can be seen as the first 'modern' director, his greatest achievements being the historical epics
The Birth Of A Nation. When it was released, it was one of the longest films ever made, over three
hours in length. The prologue depicts the introduction of slavery to America in the seventeenth
century and the beginnings of the abolitionist movement. The major part of the film depicts the
events before, during...show more content...
The mainstream picture was probably the best advertisement that the KU KLUX KLAN could have
had. The vilifying of blacks also led to the Jim Crow system. When it was portrayed in this movie
as acceptable, people in the South felt much better about doing horrible deeds to black citizens,
denying blacks their civil rights
Though the portrayal of both blacks and the KU KLUX KLAN were extremely off track, the
movie itself was an amazing work of cinema for its time. This was probably the first movie to use
hundreds of extra in a battle scene. These scenes were well crafted by the filmmaker, and while
not to the perfection of more modern films such as Braveheart, the technology and genius that the
filmmaker used rival such films. To think that the movie was released only fifty years after the
end of the Civil War makes the feat seem even more incredible. In seeing the huge battles, I did not
need sound to hear the sounds of battle in my imagination. It would have been incredible if the
movie had been made in the era where sound came into movies. Griffith deployed all the technical
experiments of his previous movies for maximum visceral effect, along with a prepared score
mixing classical music and folk tunes. With expressive close–ups, including cross–cutting, multiple
camera positions, inter–titles long shots, irises and superimposition,

Compare and Contrast Two Short Stories––
Landlady by Roald Dahl and Chemistry by Graham Swift
There are lots of great short stories out there, but in my opinion, both 'Chemistry' by Graham Swift
and 'The Landlady' by Roald Dahl are two of the most unique and effective stories. They share both
similarities and differences throughout. Comparing and contrasting the way the authors use their
inimitable writing style to achieve their intentions in the story will give us more idea how these
stories are alike and distinct.
In a way, these two stories are similar because both the authors had carefully chosen the words

In the beginning , Billy thought the landlady was 'terribly nice',which he was quite grateful to have
such a nice landlady who give him a well–appointed service, but as the conversations go on, Billy
was then frightened by her weird and creepy contents, he 'sat there staring straight ahead of him into
the far corner of the room, biting his lower lip.' tells the readers that he's begin to frightened and
suspect landlady, foreshadowing the readers that she might be doing something that couldn't be
trusted by Billy.
In another way, these two stories are different because the authors have been using different
perspective when narrating the story. In 'Chemistry', author's written the story in the word of narrator,
mixing both the perspective of adult and young boy's. Line" My father's death was a far less
remote event than my grandfather's but no more explicable, I was only seven." can be a good
example. Almost the whole story was written in past tense, added to the effect of recalling. He's
shown a grown up man recalling memories when he was back in 7–10 years old. This kind of
writing style makes readers felt more personal, because the subject is 'I', when reading out the
story, readers will feel like they're experiencing the narrators' life, as if they are the narrator. Also,
another interesting fact about this kind of writing style is that if I were to look at the same events in
other character's perspective, it might be another whole different story because

10. COMPARISON AND CONTRAST OF THE UNDERSTANDING OF LOVE
Introduction
The definition of love varies from person to person. However, it generally means the longing or
desire that we have towards something or someone. Love is something that is intangible; you cannot
touch it though you can feel it deep in your heart. Biblically, love is an important virtue and thus we
get to understand that as human beings we cannot survive without the virtue of love. As I Previously
said, the understanding of love varies from one individual to the other; it can be verified through the
Plato's symposium and Antigone play. This paper tries to highlight the Plato's andSophocles
understanding of love.
Sophocles understanding of love
Sophocles tries to show us the goodness of love. He stipulates that one feels incomplete without
love. He further says that love makes people feel attracted to each other and they always feel the
need to be together. With love, one trusts the other with their lives. When a person is in love they
do everything in order to impress his/her significant other and can even make sacrifices in order to
make the other person happy.
In the play of Sophocles, Antigone, one of the main characters portrays the theme of love
through her character traits and also her personal beliefs. Antigone has a lot of attraction to the
world of Gods. She obeys and alleges to the world of these Gods even more than the mortal being.
She refuses to abide the orders made by the king Creon, instead

High School vs. College A very important part of life is education. In order to acquire a satisfying
education, one should complete high school prior to college. College and high school have two
different levels of education, but both are trying to further student's knowledge. As recent high
school graduates and college freshman's many can clarify similarities and differences between the
two. Some obvious similarities are that both have assignments, classrooms, and students. Although
college and high school have many differences three of the main ones are the teachers, classes, and
responsibilities. Teachers and college professors are one main difference. Teachers in high school

Classes are the second main reason high school differs from college. Classes in high school
generally consist of no more that 25 students. Counselors usually arrange your schedule the way
they think is best for you. You are not responsible for knowing what it takes to graduate. Usually
the school year is 26 weeks long; classes may have to be taken the whole year in order to get credit
for them. You are graded on most assignments done in class. In college some classes may have from
75–100 students. It is your responsibility to enroll in the classes that are required for your major,
plus a week for final exams. The year is divided into two 14 week semesters; most classes need to
be taken the complete semester in order to get credit. College professors tend to grade students
on tests and major papers. Responsibility has a lot to do when it comes to high school and college.
When you attend high school you are provided textbooks for each class. Your time is usually
structured by others (parents and/or teachers). Many parents are there to wake you up in the
morning before school starts. In high school you are required to go to school everyday. You often
read or hear presentations once in order to learn what you need to know. Students are expected to
read short stories at home which will be re–taught in class. When in college you must pay for each
textbook necessary for class.

12. A Comparison of Two Paintings from the Renaissance Period
Introduction This paper will compare the themes found in the paintings "Madonna and Child with St.
John the Baptist and an Angel" by Domenico di Bartolomeo Ubaldini (Puligo) and "Madonna
Enthroned" by Giotto. Both paintings deal with fables from the Christian faith but were executed
during different periods in art. The Giotto painting was created around 1310 and the Puglio painting
was executed between 1518 – 1520. Here, these two paintings have similar themes both at the
extreme beginnings and endings of the Italian Renaissance, and as such they serve to present an
exceptional example of the developments in art that occurred within that time. This paper shall

John the Baptist is also allowed to stand near the holy mother and child, and an angel is present.
Because of this, the viewer contends with a literal story rather than a simple image as in "Madonna
Enthroned". Also in Puligo's image, where the central figures are larger and better seen, there are
religious symbols used. The same might be true in Giotto's work but the details are harder to
distinguish.
Visual Form and Style The style and the form of these two paintings reflect the development of
the artistic techniques during the Italian Renaissance. While both reflect a Biblical theme with a
central focal point of the Madonna and Child, "Madonna Enthroned" has a key image that is best
viewed from a central position and "Madonna and Child..." has a greater degree of importance
over the majority of the surface of the canvas. In "Madonna and Child..." the viewer does not
perceive that an image is being forced upon them as is found in the work by Giotto. A use of light
and space is also key to preventing the Puligo piece from being "forced", where the organization
of distance visibly removes the viewer from "Madonna Enthroned" while drawing the viewer into
the painting in "Madonna and Child...". Color also serves a similar purpose, where Giotto's work
is monochromatic but ocher while Puligo's work carries a greater expression through the detail
involved. The mood of these two pieces is remarkable in that color does not play as great

discount shopper. The Target customer is much younger than other discount BIG BOX stores with
an average age of just 40, mostly female, have children and are college graduates. The distinction in
customer base is important due to the emphasis on quality at lower prices. Target separates itself
from its competitors by offering more up–to–date and stylish products, better quality, while still
keeping prices lower. The attractiveness of the store presentations and the employee attentiveness
also gives Target an edge against other BIG BOX discount retailers.
Target's sales revenues have consistently grown since 2008, in spite of economical challenges.
Ending sales for 2011 topped $69 million, a $2 million increase over the previous year. Sales
increases show that their marketing, advertising and communication styles are working to bring in
new customers and to retain the customers they have.

Wal–Mart and Target are both discount BIG BOX retailers which have made the most of their
strengths and have drawn upon the differences in their customer bases, product mix and business

Next I am going to talk about the structure and preparation of each of my speeches. My first speech
did not fulfill all four functions of the speech introduction. I did not list my main points in the
introduction of the first speech but I did in my last. I could really see the difference; how following
the format makes everything flow together. Like transition statements, I never saw the importance in
those until I watched myself without transition statements, what a mess. My persuasive speech
followed much more of a pattern and was fluid.
The last point I would like to discuss in the delivery of my speech. The delivery was still not up to
par but I think I have made a vast improvement. My first speech was pretty shaky and the last
speech had more of a rock holding it down. I was much more confident in myself. I spoke strongly
about my topic emphasizing words, to grasp the attention of my audience.
So in conclusion if I had another semester of speech, I could maybe speak to large group of people,
completely confident in my delivery. But I still have a touch of anxiety in preparing to speak and
my writing skills still need some work. I am really happy with what I have achieved in the class, yes
it could have been more if I was tougher on myself, but I cannot believe how much more
comfortable I was being up there. So I give myself a seven, on the one to ten scale of

Comparing Two Similar Businesses
Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) with a +$100 billion market capitalization is a multinational
electronic commerce company headquartered in Seattle, Washington, United States. It is the world's
largest online retailer. Amazon has separate websites for the following countries: United States,

These superstores, which numbered 116 in early 1996, provided customers with plentiful sitting and
browsing areas, a well–versed customer service team, and even espresso bars featuring live
entertainment. Borders Group, Inc. came into existence following the spinoff from its parent
Kmart Corporation in May 1995. But the Borders name dates back over two decades. Borders
began as a single used bookstore in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The shop was founded by Louis and
Tom Borders in 1971. Serving the bustling academic community of the University of Michigan and

in which they influence the concept of social order within those societies. To an extent, the degree of
science's impact on society can be said to be more prominent and influential in one novel, more than
the other as their chain of events despite all being drastically affected by the ideas brought about
through science – such as the concept of artificially made life, can be said to have more impact of
the concept of social order within...show more content...
The science which leads to the initialisation of the idea of creating organ donors which will
contribute to the later life of those who stand higher in the society's capitalistic structure can be
said to have impacted the overall concept of a social order through the obstruction of proceeding
in what is morally right as a result of deeming cloning perfectly acceptable. However, another way
to interpret Ishiguro's ideologies behind social order in Never Let Me Go can be through the lack
of surprise at the ways in which Kathy's society is run. The fact that science was powerful enough
to normalise the concept of organ donation in a manner which is disadvantageous for the donors in
regards to a chance at a normal life comes alongside the fact that there is very little desire to rebel
on behalf of the donors. Through this, it can be deduced that science and its influence can
completely overpower the idea of self righteousness and own will, enforcing conformity to the values
put upon by a corrupt society, ultimately ensuing social
