Open Access Monitoring Service
Students using the Uni’s Wifi will connect to the
internet using the existing hotspot infrastructure
On connecting to the Wifi they will be routed to
the university’s landing page.
Prism’s Open Access Agent (OAA) will be made
available for download on the landing page.
On accessing the landing page, the OAA
installation will be launched and installed by the
student.
Student’s machine not having the agent installed
will not be able to access the internet.

Hotspot infrastructure routes the
users to the Landing Page.
Prism Server
Laptops’ will connect to
the university’s Hotspot
On installation OA agents will
connect to the Prism Server which
will register them with the
HotSpot to allow them to connect
to the internet.
The Landing page contains the
Uni’s internet usage policy along
with OA agent which gets launched
on accepting the Policy. The
student has to install it to access
the internet.

Technical Implementation
The OA agent is an Activex component which will be
linked with the landing page. On accessing the landing
page people will be asked to install the agent.
On installation OAA will connect to the Prism Server and
register itself with the Laptop’s MAC address.
The Prism Server will connect to the HotSpot access
controller and register the MAC address of the laptop to
allow access to the internet.
The OAA will only get activated when it is connected to
the defined University Wifi
The HotSpot will only authorize those laptops whose
MAC address has been registered in the MAC tables.
