adodara is gradually becoming a pot
pourri of diverse cultures, with peo-
ple from different states flocking in
to benefit from the new development wave.
The city is lively and adding to its glory is
the host of multinational firms that have
set their base here. Work opportunities
here are at par with any of today's major
metropolitan cities in India. The diverse
population buzzing with undying enthusi-
asm and fervor for trade is adding a new
gamut of possibilities in Vadodara.
Manish Bharadwaj (IAS), Municipal
Commissioner, Vadodara, says, "Vado-
dara is growing at a rapid pace and urban-
isation is increasing by one per cent every
year. Further, in terms of infrastructural
development, Vadodara ranks third in Gu-
jarat. Moreover, lot of initiatives are un-
dertaken by the Vadodara Municipal Cor-
poration like construction of flyovers,
proper drainage systems, town planning
schemes etc,."
As a result, Vadodara is coming up with
various state-of-the-art facilities to raise
its bar in all the segments including the
sports segment. This can be seen from the
fact that the state-of-the-art outdoor Sports
Complex in Manjalpur is all set to create
history in sports.
Bharatbhai Shah, Mayor, Vadodara,
says, "The Manjalpur Sports Complex is of
international standards. It will provide a
boost to the sport activities in not only
Vadodara but in the entire state."
Construction of the complex by Vado-
dara Municipal Corporation took off in
2010. The project was undertaken by the
civic body under Swarnim Gujarat to
mark the state's 50 years of existence. The
sports facilities at the complex will help
the city in hosting big tournaments. The
Municipal Commissioner, avers, "It is a
state-of-the-art Sports Complex. It has the
potential to hold a multitude of activities
at one venue. In fact, all the international
sports events can now be held at this
Sports Complex."

Vadodara: Making
a mark in sports
The Manjalpur Sports Complex, which is being
inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Gujarat today,
is one-of-its-kind in the country
ATHLETICS TRACK
This track is built keeping in
mind the international standards.
All sorts of sporting activities like
Running (Sprints, Relay races,
Hurdling and Steeple Chase, etc.),
Jumping (Long jump, Steeple
jump, High jump, Pole Vault),
Throwing (Shot put, Discus throw,
Hammer throw, Javelin throw)
can be performed on this track.
FOOTBALL FIELD
It is a 54 meter x 87 meter natural
grass ground and is ideal for con-
ducting national level games and
competitions. Nearly, 3800 football
fans can enjoy the game from the
main stadium.
HOCKEY FIELD
Confirming to the Federation of
International Hockey (FIH) stan-
dards, it is 100 x 60 meter Astro
turf including 4.30 meter goal
side margin and 2.50 meter serv-
ice area on other two sides.
INDIAN GAME FIELD COURTS
3 Kabbadi courts, Kho-Kho court,
Volleyball court has been created
and they are established keeping
in mind the Indian and interna-
tional standards.
TENNIS COURTS
Total two court of 11meter x 23
meter play court and 3.0 meter
margin including 4.0 meter wide
service area is established. It is
built, keeping in mind the
International Tennis Federation
(ITF) approved standards.
BASKETBALL COURT
It is a 15 meter x 28 meter play
court with 3.0 meter margin all
around. It is built on
International Basketball
Federation (IBF) approved stan-
dard.
SHOOTING RANGE ARENA
50 meter Rifle Shooting Range: It
is established with outdoor 50
meter rifle shooting range and
1.20 meter wide shooter lane. The
arena has 25 lanes for shooters, in
case if national level competition
is organised. Also, there is RCC
baffle beam in open area for safe-
ty and preventing bullets to go
out of range area. It also has
sound absorbent ceiling and wall
paneling covered hall for 300
viewers sitting on rear side.
Trainer's room with strong room
for weapon safety is also there.
MULTIPURPOSE HALL
There is also a hall for indoor
floor games like Judo, Karate,
Gymnastics Chase Competition
and Carom Board game.
10 METER PISTOL SHOOTING HALL
There is an indoor 10 meter Pistol
Shooting Range which has 1.20
meter wide shooter lane. There
are 30 lanes for shooters, in case
of national level competition.
There is wood paneling on front
target wall allowing bullet to pen-
etrate in wood for safety.
GYMNASIUM
The Gymnasium hall has all the
exercise equipment for both the
sexes with instructors room and
music system.
Further, there is also state-of-
the-art service building and stadi-
um building which have many
facilities like player lounge, VIP
lounge, hall of fame, sports
authority office, conference room,
first-aid room and many other
things.
PARKING BUILDING
It is a multi-floor RCC building
with gradual climbing slope for
drive way up and down and side
parking for 200 cars in five levels.
Overall, the Manjalpur Sports
Complex will definitely be a boon
for Barodians who don't have any
sports complex despite being
home to a large number of ath-
letes. Due to world-class facilities
available in the Sports Complex, it
will definitely be a hot spot for all
the sport activities being held in
India and internationally.
