3. Location 1
The first location is located in a quiet, remote area where the atmosphere should feel
quite calm. I am planning on filming this scene during a time of sunset (usually 16-
16:45). This will allow me to get some different angle shots, like ones focusing on the
sunset, or ones focusing on the actor, etc.
I wanted an evening sunset to be included because this is effective when it comes to
nature and the outdoors as it is aesthetically pleasing. As I want these scenes of the
music video to be during sunset hours, I will need to make sure I get the footage I
want before lighting starts to change and it gets darker.
This scene is important for understanding the intertextuality. An overall message in the
song is about appreciation and reflection on the good people in your life. This scene
the actor is on their own, and in a way reflecting back, as being outdoors or
surrounded by nature is often viewed to be a good way of ‘clearing the mind.’.
This kind of location and atmosphere is supposed to set the mood in the video, with
the idea of being in a quiet and calming location on their own. Also, filming in outdoor
areas with different backgrounds and locations can be seen as aesthetically pleasing
for the audience.
4. Location 2
Appleton Roebuck Village
This village is in the countryside, however at this location there is a small local church
(Appleton Roebuck All Saints Church) that I feel is a good opportunity for me to film.
This scene inside the church will be filmed during the day so there is at least some
sunlight in the video, also I could use this opportunity to capture footage of the sunlight
coming through the stained glass windows (effective). This also gives me a chance to
capture more footage at other locations near by the same day.
At this location I would have the actor visiting the church and we would film some
footage inside. For the music video, it would be as if the person is visiting the church
by themselves and are remembering ‘angels’ as the song is about the angels who
are/have been in your life.
This scene is focusing on the grief that people may feel, but also accepting that they
are gone. This is the feel that the audience should get when watching the video.
In this area of Appleton Roebuck, there is plenty of locations to visit that would be
good to film some footage at (woods, small rivers, open fields, etc.)
5. Structural breakdown – 1/3
Section [e.g. verse,
chorus, bridge, etc]
Approx
duration
What happens, visual elements, shots Notes of technical aspects/requirements
Opening of the
song- the actor will
be in location 1
4
seconds
approx
This clip will be at an outdoor location in
a remote/calm area. If there is the
opportunity, this scene would have a
sunset in the background.
The camera could be following the actor
behind them, and they could move in
time with the beat that lasts for a few
seconds.
First Verse pt1-
scene of entering
the church will
take place
25
seconds
approx
This is where the actor is filmed entering
the church (opening the door to enter,
etc)
Then after this scene there will be
footage and clips shown of inside the
church
First verse pt2 +
Chorus
First
verse
(25
seconds)
Chorus
(25
seconds)
During the second part of the first verse,
I would switch from the church back to
the scene from the opening of the song.
I would use different angles for this.
The chorus starts after this so I switch
locations in the video (from L1 to L2) on
beat.
6. Structural breakdown – 2/3
Section [e.g. verse,
chorus, bridge, etc]
Approx
duration
What happens, visual elements, shots Notes of technical aspects/requirements
Main chorus 30
seconds
As this section of the song is more
powerful in terms of music, this part of
the song would focus on being inside the
church again.
Second Verse 20
seconds
Back to another outdoor location, angles
such as long shot and close ups will be
used.
Chorus 25-30
seconds
Back to the location of the church- the
actor is remembering people who they
may have lost. This could be shown by
walking through the graveyard, or
something indicating
grief/remembrance.
7. Structural breakdown – 3/3
Section [e.g. verse,
chorus, bridge, etc]
Approx
duration
What happens, visual elements, shots Notes of technical aspects/requirements
Main Chorus
(2.30-2.50)
20
seconds
A selection of scenes from the different
locations are put together during this
chorus, e.g. 5 seconds of one location, 5
seconds of another location, etc.
Bridge, Main
Chorus
20
seconds
At 2.50 there is a section where the beat
builds up for around 3-5 seconds. At this
point there would be very short clips of
each scene put together (each clip
around 1/2 seconds)
Last Chorus 20
seconds
The last chorus would take place in the
graveyard that is where the church is.
The actor would be laying a flower down
on the grave
8. Storyboarding
• Your storyboard should bring your idea to life
• Provide an idea of the sequencing of you video
• Provides a basis for production
• Suggested online storyboard creators are:
• http://www.pixton.com [very complicated]
• http://www.storyjumper.com [allows you to insert your own images]
• Alternatively, hand draw or photograph your storyboard and scan or
copy to insert it onto your slides
• There are lots of tips collected together on Blackboard!
12. Production Group Info
Performers name: Iris Simmons
Iris is the only performer in my music video and is the only person you will likely see in the music video. I
chose to only have one person in my video because if you listen to the lyrics of the song you start to think
of the song as someone fighting inner battles on their own- so the video is based around one person and
their ‘inner battles’.
The performer will be with me, who is filming the video, at all of the locations. There will only be me and
Iris who are involved in the making of the music video, I will be making sure I get the right angles and
footage.
At the first location, at the church, Iris will be walking and looking curiously around the Church. There will
be different angles and shots used around the Church so Iris may not need to be in all of the footage. At
the second location, which will be at an outdoor location, Iris will be walking down a long lane that is
surrounded by trees. The main angle that will be shot will be from the back of Iris as she is walking and
also from the front.
13. Location information
Location 1: Inside empty Church
Address: The Green, York, YO26 5LR
As I had ideas of filming inside, I had to email the Vicar of the Church and arrange a suitable time to come
in and film at a time where no services are taking place. This was arranged fairly quickly and a day and
time was arranged.
I had visited this location beforehand so I had an idea of what I could film inside and the different angles
and camera shots I could use on the day of filming. There are different locations where me (as the person
holding the camera) could stand to get these different angles.
If this choice of location fails and doesn’t go to plan, our backup location would be to visit The Minster in
York and film some footage there. The Minster may be a more public place than the original idea of going
to the Church, but The Minster has very nice architecture and glass windows on the outside and inside.
Location 2: Appleton Roebuck
Address: YO23 7DE
At this location, there isn’t a specific address that the filming is taking place because the filming will be at
the remote, distant areas in the village where there are open fields, lanes, etc. These areas are
opportunities to film the performer from different angles, especially close ups and also capturing footage
of the outdoors (aesthetically pleasing for the audience and video)
If this choice of location fails and doesn’t go to plan, then our backup location would be a Village called
Knapton. This area is a simple place to get to and I wouldn’t have to worry about transport to get to this
Village. The Village has quiet areas where there are open fields and lanes to capture some good footage.
