ABSTRACT
 Air-cooler is one of the major consumers of electrical
energy in many parts of the world today and already
today air-cooler causes energy shortage in for
example China. The demand can be expected to
increase because of changing working times,
increased comfort expectations and global warming.
Air-cooler systems in use are most often built around
a vapor compression systems driven by grid-
electricity. However, most ways of generating the
electricity today, as well as the refrigerants being
used in traditional vapor compression systems, have
negative impact on the environment.
INTRODUCTION
 Energy is the primary and most universal measure of all kinds of work
by human beings and nature. Energy is a crucial input in the process of
economic, social and industrial development.
 Day by day the energy consumption is increasing very rapidly. The rate
of energy consumption is increasing. Supply is depleting resulting in
inflation and energy shortage. This is called the energy crisis.
 According to law of conservation of energy ''energy can neither be
created nor be destroyed but can be transformed from one form to
another form. Energy can be transported from one place to another
place.''
 Alternative or non-conventional or renewable energy resources are
very essential to develop for future energy requirements.
 The energy demand increases day by day because of population
increasing industrialization increases and transportation increases etc.
Sources of energy
 There are two main sources of energy.
They are conventional and non-
conventional sources of energy.
1. Conventional sources of energy
2. Non-conventional sources of energy
Types of Non-conventional
sources of energy
 Wind energy
 Tidal energy
 Solar energy
 Geo-Thermal energy
 Energy from Biomass
PARTS OF SOLAR AIR
COOLER SYSTEM
 Solar panel
 Battery
 Invertor
 Charge controller
 Air cooler
Solar panel
 Solar panel refers either to a
photovoltaic module, a solar thermal
energy panel, or a set of solar
photovoltaic (PV) modules electrically
connected and mounted on a supporting
structure.
Battery
Battery store the electric power in the form
of a chemical reaction. Without storage
you would only have power when the sun
is shining or the generator is running. We
need battery of 12V.
Invertor
 The power invertor is the heart of the
system. It makes 220 volts AC from the
12 volts DC stored in the batteries. It
can also charge the batteries if
connected to a generator or the AC line.
Charge controller
 A charge controller is needed to prevent
the overcharging of the battery. Proper
charging of battery will prevent the damage
and increase the life and performance of it.
Parts of Air-Cooler
 Fan
 DC Pump
 Cooling Pad
 Re-Circulating Water Pump
Fan
 A standalone fan is typically powered with
an electric motor. Fans are often attached
directly to the motor's output, with no need
for gears or belts. Smaller fans are often
powered by shaded pole AC motors or
brushed or brushless DC motors.
DC PUMP
 A pump is a device used to move gases,
liquids or slurries.
 Pumps work by using mechanical forces to
push the material, either by physically
lifting, or by the force of compression.
Hand-operated, reciprocating, positive
displacement, water pump.
Re-Circulating Water Pump

A re-circulating pump draws water from
the basin under the pumps it through a
system of sprays (or water distributors)
from which the water is directed onto the
tube surfaces.
COOLING PAD
 Most of the cooling pads are made of either aspen
fiber or cellulose. A cellulose pad typically needs
more air and water flow than does an aspen pad.
 . A temperature reduction of 10 to 200C (50-68
degree F) can be achieved by passing the hot
fresh air through the wetted pads.
WORKING PRINCIPLE
 Solar panel consists of number of silicon
cells, when sun light falls on this panel it
generate the voltage signals then these
voltage signals are given to charging
circuit.
 Depending on the panel board size the
generated voltage amount is increased.
 In charging circuit the voltage signal
from the board is gathered together and
stored in the battery.
 There are two tanks provided one at the top
and another one at the bottom. The water from
the top tank is made to pass through the tubes
which are fixed between the two tanks.
 A fan is provided at the centre of the tank in
such a way that the supply for the fan is
coming from the battery which stores the
current from the solar panel.
 The power for the DC pump is coming from
the battery connected to the solar panel.
 The fan and pump is controlled separately
with help of manual operated switch.
Construction
Electrical Circuit
Advantages
 Power consumption is less.
 Runs on Sun light.
 High efficient (consume 3 amp at low
speed 5 amp at high speed).
 Good & effective in bed room/drawing
room.
 Eco / user friendly.
 Can run on inverter.
 Also have good backup.
Disadvantages
 Weather-dependent
 Tracking the sun
 Cleaning
 Energy conversion
 Limited power supply
 Expansive batteries
 High setup cost
