Greetings:
Good Morning! Today
we are about to discuss the
different physicist who has
great contribution in our
society. In terms of inventions,
principles, theories and others
which we used nowadays.
Motivation:
Energizer:
Physicist:
Their Role
in the
Society
Introduction
Physicists are the scientists who study the
field of physics in great detail. They conduct research
into physical phenomena or the natural science that
involve the study of matter and related concepts.
They analyze the general happenings in nature and
try to understand how the universe behaves. On the
basis of research through observation and
experiments, they discover physical laws and
propound theories that explain the functioning of
natural forces like gravity, electromagnetism, and
nuclear interactions
The discovery of new physical laws and
theories contribute to the existing base of
theoretical knowledge and can also be used for
more practical applications such as development
of medial equipment, electronic devices, nuclear
reactors, etc. During the earlier days, physics was
considered a field of philosophy; it was only during
the 19th century that physics was realized as a
discipline separate from philosophy.
Isaac Newton
Born on January 4, 1643, in
Woolsthorpe, England, Isaac Newton was an
established physicist and mathematician, and
is credited as one of the great minds of the
17th century Scientific Revolution. With
discoveries in optics, motion and
mathematics, Newton developed the
principles of modern physics.
In 1687, he published his most
acclaimed work, Philosophiae Naturalis
Principia Mathematica (Mathematical
Principles of Natural Philosophy), which has
been called the single most influential book
on physics. Newton died in London on
March 31, 1727.
Isaac Newton
He formulated
the laws of
motion and the
universal law
of gravitation
Benjamin Franklin
Born in Boston in 1706, Benjamin Franklin
organized the United States’ first lending library
and volunteer fire department. His scientific
pursuits included investigations into electricity,
mathematics and mapmaking. He helped draft
the Declaration of Independence and the U.S
Constitution, and negotiated the 1783 Treaty of
Paris, which marked the end of the
Revolutionary War.
Benjamin Franklin
He is noted for his experiment on
electricity. His renowned kite
experiment to study the lightning
led him to the to the invention of
the lightning rod.
Michael Faraday
Michael Faraday was born on September
22, 1791 in London, England, UK. He was
the third child of James and Margaret
Faraday. His father was a blacksmith who
had poor health. Before marriage, his
mother had been a servant. The family
lived in a degree of poverty.
Michael Faraday attended a local
school until he was 13, where he received
a basic education. To earn money for the
family he started working as a delivery
boy for a bookshop. He worked hard and
impressed his employer. After a year, he
was promoted to become an apprentice
bookbinder.
Michael Faraday
His invention was
the generator,
which worked on
the principle that
magnets can be
used to produce
electric current.
Wilhelm Roentgen
Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen was
born on March 27, 1845, at Lennep in the
Lower Rhine Province of Germany, as the
only child of a merchant in, and
manufacturer of, cloth. His mother was
Charlotte Constanze Frowein of
Amsterdam, a member of an old Lennep
family which had settled in Amsterdam.
Wilhelm Roentgen
He discovered X-
rays in 1895.
studies on
radioactivity led to
the development
of nuclear physics
Albert Einstein
Albert Einstein was born at Ulm, in
Württemberg, Germany, on March 14, 1879. Six
weeks later the family moved to Munich, where
he later on began his schooling at the Luitpold
Gymnasium. Later, they moved to Italy and
Albert continued his education at Aarau,
Switzerland and in 1896 he entered the Swiss
Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich to be
trained as a teacher in physics and mathematics.
In 1901, the year he gained his
diploma, he acquired Swiss citizenship
and, as he was unable to find a teaching
post, he accepted a position as technical
assistant in the Swiss Patent Office. In
1905 he obtained his doctor's degree.
Albert Einstein
He formulated
the theory of
relativity and
his famous
equation,
E=mc2
Quiz:
1. Who formulated the theory of relativity?
2. What did Isaac Newton conclude after
hit by the falling apple?
3. Why does William Roentgen named X-
ray?
4. What famous experiment by Benjamin
Franklin who helps him to study lightning?
5. Who invent the Generator?
