Baiyoke Sky Hotel - Editorial Review
1. Baiyoke Sky Hotel – Editorial Review
I have travelled to Bangkok several times for both business and leisure and while
most of the hotels I’ve stayed in suited each purpose well, Baiyoke Sky Hotel is the
one that have stood out amongst all for being more than well-suited for both
business travellers and people on vacation.
Situated in the well-known Pratunam district of Bangkok, the 88-storey Baiyoke Sky
Hotel is the tallest of its kind in the country and also one of the most scenic with the
highlight of the hotel being the revolving observation deck which allows guests to
take in the picturesque night skyline of Bangkok’s bustling downtown scene.
There are many restaurants within the hotel building itself offering cuisines such as
local Thai food, Chinese and Indian cuisines as well. Guests who wish to explore more
activity options within the hotel would also be pleased to know that Baiyoke Sky
Hotel has the one and only replica of Thailand’s floating river market on its 75th
floor
and also an open-air golf range on the 18th
floor. The lower floors of the hotel also
houses retail and wholesale stores that will make a shopaholic smile. If you love a
good party, make sure not to pass up on the chance to groove and revel on the dance
floor up in the skies on the 83rd
storey.
As for the hotel rooms, Baiyoke Sky Hotel offers a selection of rooms and suites
across their 3 different zones – The Standard Zone (22nd
-45th
floors), The Sky Zone
(46th
to 63rd
floor) and The Space Zone (64th
to 74th
floor). Whichever zone you choose
to stay in, you are sure to get a good vantage point of the city skyline even from the
lower floors. Baiyoke Sky Hotel offers rooms for every budget, ranging from the
2. standard Superior and Junior Rooms to the high-end Superior, Junior and Presidential
Suites.
Even the smallest of rooms are big and spacious with good quality furnishing. You can
even choose the type of pillow you would like in your room. The toilets are also well
furnished with toiletries, bathrobes, slippers and hair dryer provided. Each room has
an in-room safe, mini-bar and at least one flat-screen TV with free satellite channels,
a DVD player and even an MP3 docking station.
Hotel guests with small children would also be delighted to know that the hotel has a
Children’s DVD and video library. There is a seating area and a desk in each room,
making it well-suited for business travellers. Wi-Fi is available in all areas albeit at a
rate of 400THB per 24 hours which would be the only real gripe I have about the
hotel.
The hotel staff are well-trained and polite as well and the hotel offers many services
that tourists would appreciate such as currency exchange, car hire, baggage storage,
dry-cleaning, tour desk, ATM machines and more. The front desk also operates 24-
hours, 7 days a week so no need to fret about having any queries or problems.
Should you feel up for a work-out after lounging around in the comfy room, there is a
Fitness Centre as well as a Spa and Wellness Centre to keep yourself fit after gorging
on delicious Thai food. In addition, the Massage Centre on the 20th
floor offers not
only traditional Thai massages but also other international massage styles so that you
can rest and rejuvenate yourself if your legs are tired from shopping too much – If
3. that is even possible for the ladies. Not fond of massages? Then simply take a swim
or sunbathe in the magnificent outdoor pool on the same floor.
Getting to the hotel from the airport itself is also an easy task. If you’re coming from
Suvarnabuhmi International Airport, simply take the Airport Rail Link located at the
basement of the airport and take the City Link Train, alighting at Ratchaprarop Station
approximately 30 minutes later. The City Link Train ticket costs only 45 THB per
person and is the cheapest method of reaching the hotel. From Ratchaprarop Station,
the hotel is just less than 5 minutes away on foot.
Travellers Tip: If you’re leaving for the airport with bulky baggage, you can also
consider taking the City Link Train one stop down to Makkasan Station. You can then
have the luxury of checking-in your baggage at Makkasan Station’s City Air Terminal
and board the Direct Express Train for an expedited, non-stop journey to
Suvarnabuhmi airport for 150 THB.
The Airport Rail Link operates from 6am to 12 midnight everyday so if you arrive on a
midnight flight, you can also choose to hop on an airport taxi which should cost you
300 THB to 350 THB. The hotel also offers the option of the Airport Pick-up Service
which is the most convenient if you are travelling with family or groups of friends. It
costs 1,000 THB for a 3 passenger vehicle for one-way trips, 1,800 THB for round
trips.
For a larger mini-van that can carry 8 passengers, a one way trip costs 1,400THB and
a round trip costs 2,600 THB. For guests coming from Don Muang International
Airport, you can either take an airport taxi or arrange with the hotel to book an
Airport Pick-up Service both of which would cost approximately the same as for
guests coming from Suvarnabuhmi Airport.
Shopaholics would be thrilled with Baiyoke Sky Hotel’s shopping prospects. There is
of course the the shopping mall located on the lower floors of Baiyoke Sky Hotel
which offers wholesale and retail stores with cheap finds and bargaining is also
allowed. Situated in the prime Pratunam Shopping District, Baiyoke Sky Hotel is just a
5 to 10 minute walk away from famous shopping attractions like Platinum Fashion
Mall, Pantip IT Mall, Palladium and Central World.
You can also reach other nearby shopping attractions like Paragon, Siam Square, MBK
Centre and the likes by taking a 15 to 20 minutes ride on the Skytrain from
Ratchaprarop. The hotel also offers hourly shuttle bus service to other Skytrain
stations nearby shopping attractions like Phaya Thai (Big C Shopping Mall),
4. Ratchatthewi (Platinum Fashion Mall, Pantip IT Mall), Siam (Siam Shopping Centre,
MBK Centre, Central World) and the Chatuchak weekend market.
All in all, if you are a traveller who enjoys picturesque city views, shopping worth
your money and a good comfortable rest, Baiyoke Sky Hotel is the hotel to stay in. Be
it for business or leisure, alone or with company, the staff of the hotel will make your
stay enjoyable and memorable.
