0% rente op spaarrekeningen: Accelerator voor Impact Investing?
Nu Triodos bank als eerste Nederlandse bank de rente op direct opneembare spaarrekeningen heeft verlaagd naar 0%
is de drempel voor impact investing door te beleggen in retail bonds van ontwikkelingsbanken geslecht. Deze obligaties
van financiële instituten hebben gunstige risico ratings, soms een ESG rating, meestal lage coupons en zijn
relatief weinig beschikbaar voor kleine, retail investeerders. Ik heb in 3Q2016 een overzicht gemaakt.

Recent gaf de Wereldbank een retail obligatie uit met een coupon van 1,75% en een looptijd tot 2026 (10 jaar)
waarin belegd wordt in 50 ondernemingen die bijdragen aan de SDG's. De ondernemingen zijn geselecteerd door

Voor investeren in www.Oikocredit.nl dat 22 maart 2017 de mijlpaal van 1 miljard euro voorbij ging geldt hetzelfde,
1,55% rendement op haar ontwikkelingsfinanciering, inleg mogelijk vanaf 10 euro per maand of 200 euro per inleg.
Waarom 0%?
Triodos Bank FAQ's: De marktrentes zijn historisch laag. ... Voor banken betekent dit echter wel dat hun rente-
inkomsten dalen. Als gevolg daarvan kunnen zij een lagere spaarrente aan hun klanten doorgeven. Want het
verdienmodel van banken is in essentie gebaseerd op de marge tussen die twee. De spaarrentes kruipen bij alle
banken naar de nul procent. De afgelopen tijd hebben ook wij de rente op onze Triodos Internet
Spaarrekening een aantal keer moeten verlagen. En nu dus naar nul procent. Overigens heeft spaargeld dat op
het eerste gezicht weinig of ‘niets’ meer oplevert, wel degelijk waarde. Dankzij uw spaargeld kunnen we immers
het verschil maken. Wij financieren er uitsluitend ondernemers en initiatieven mee die een positieve
verandering op sociaal, cultureel en ecologisch vlak mogelijk maken.

Het FD stelt dat het voor Triodos Bank lastig is om geschikte investees te vinden en daarom de rente heeft verlaagd.
'Niet zo vreemd, die bank heeft al jaren moeite om toevertrouwde middelen uit te zetten in leningen die
voldoen aan de criteria van de bank. Dat geldt in wat mindere mate ook voor de grootbanken. … Omdat de banken
geen behoefte hebben aan een concurrentieslag om spaargeld blijft de rente dalen.

ABNAMRO Mees Pierson en Triodos Private Banking uit elkaar
ABNAMRO Mees Pierson private banking en Triodos beiendigen hun samenwerking per 1 januari 2018. De medewerkers
van TMP zullen overgaan naar respectievelijk ABN AMRO of Triodos Bank. Blogger: mogen ze ook kiezen?
ABNAMRO kan het wel alleen denkt het getuige Jos ter Avest, van AAMP in het persbericht: 'De samenwerking is
aangegaan in een tijd dat duurzaam beleggen nog iets bijzonders was, wat speciale aandacht behoefde om tot wasdom
te komen. De samenwerking tussen ABN AMRO en Triodos Bank bood toegevoegde waarde omdat we door de krachten
te bundelen gebruik konden maken van elkaars ervaring, expertise en middelen om zo duurzaam beleggen te laten
groeien.”
Blogger: beetje arrogant, maar ABNAMRO was ooit de duurzaamste bank van de wereld volgens de FT dankzij haar
Equator investeringsprincipes en had door de staatsredding en (banken)crisis andere prioriteiten. Het is nu actief met
duurzaam vastgoed, groene obligaties (voor financiering van duurzaam vastgoed :) het Social Impact Fund dat in
sociale ondernemingen en social impact bonds investeert, zelfonderzoek door TruePrice* en de social enterprise
leerstoel van Harry Hummels in Utrecht ism Tony Chocolonely.... *IINieuws 1april 201611
Ze publiceerden recent het 1e Mensenrechtenrapport, primuer voor een financial, als focus voor hun
duurzaamheidsbeleid2

Blogger: prachtig maar een beetje te breed en te weinig op impact investing geconcentreerd net als de VBDO
Mensenrechten benchmark die focust op exctractives: mijnbouw & fossiele energiewinning en apparel: textiel.
Triodos Bank noemt de scheidingt als 3e punt in hun persbericht over verdere integratie duurzame en financiële
beleggingsbeslissingen in SRI.... Triodos zal dat doen door de asset management activiteiten voor haar SRI-propositie
in huis te halen. De focus ligt op public equity, daarom wordt ook engagement uitgebreid.
Blogger: 'It is an exhausting job, but somebody has to do it... Maarre 1000+ m/v personeel en public equity kennis zit
allemaal bij AA? Nou ja, bij ASN Bank 100+ m/v fte zit dat allemaal bij Actiam. ASN Bann heeft het trouwens met
POTUS Trump makkelijker dan onder President Obama met hun anti Amerikaanse instelling (mn ingegeven door de
grote uitgaven op defensie i.e. leger en Nato financiering ie onze bescherming.)

omvang van onze SRI-fondsen en discretionair vermogensbeheer voor Triodos’ Private Banking klanten, zijn we nu
goed gepositioneerd om deze stap te nemen en onze koplopersrol verder uit te bouwen. Geen woord over de
existentiele crisi waar Blom aan tipte toen hij eiond 2016 zei dat het begrip duurzaam zo breed is geworden dat het een
hol begrip is. Triodos lijkt ook leidend in de Global Alliance for Banking on Values zie IINieuws 15juli153
De blogger: looking on from a far ziet in de scheiding van wegen een bewijs dat impact investing ie Triodos Bank en
duurzaam beleggen ie AA lang goed samen konden optrekken, maar ondanks de vele overlappen (ImpInv in 2017:
integratie of assimilatie?) ook verschillen zien die tot strategische keuzes leiden: focus op positive impact of less
negative impact. Ik vind het erg jammer, Triodos kan een beetje zweverig doen en AA als grootbank heeft grote
toegevoegde waarden maar durft kennelijk nog niet door te pakken richting total impact integratie.
Het slaat hiermee denk ik de verkeerde weg in. Van collaboratie naar concurrentie: glans of ratrace...
Pluspunt PB Triodos: Triodos MeesPierson TMP verzorgt de samenstelling van de portefeuilles van duurzaam
vermogensbeheer van ABN AMRO en Triodos Bank. ABN AMRO en Triodos Bank hebben beiden hun eigen klanten en
hun eigen duurzaamheidsbeleid, TMP heeft geen eigen klanten. ABN AMRO MeesPierson en Triodos Bank zijn ieder voor
50% eigenaar van TMP. Op 31 december 2016 bedroeg het door de joint venture beheerd vermogen EUR 4,3 miljard
Daarvan is EUR 3,6 miljard afkomstig van ABN AMRO klanten en EUR 702 miljoen van Triodos klanten.

Brittannia rules the global Charity Bond Market
Begin maart 2017 heeft Greensleaves Homes, ouderenzorg in een week 33miljoen UK£ opgehaald voor zorgvastgoed

Er zijn nu zijn 20 beursgenoteerde obligaties met een
gezamenlijke waarde van 185miljoen UK£
De vraag is groter dan het aanbod (Allia)
Het merendeel (in aantal en omvang) is asset backed
voor vastgoed: sociale huisvesting, charity shops en
sportfaciliteiten. Voor mensen met leerbeperkingen werd
1 miljoen UK£ op gehaald en voor de financiering van
charities 20miljoen UK£ (10miljoen beoogd).
Charity Bonds zijn unsecured, niet gedekt door the
Financial Services Compensation Scheme.
In maart lanceerde Allia ook mini charity bonds voor
chari's die 1 tot 3miljoen UK£ willen ophalen met een
looptijd van 5 jaar. Mini-bonds verschillen van retail
bonds, ze zijn illiquide, niet verhandelbaar en keren de

beschreef ikde Amerikaanse robo advisors die ImpactAlpha noemde in

Alpha vroeg zich af: Will retail investors matter? Even small dollar amounts from millions of individual investors can add
up to big impact. De robo advisors zijn katalysatoren voor inclusive impact investing, want deze adviseurs, in de VS
vereist, bieden thematische SRI, ESG, impact investing, ethical, exclusie etc. Op basis van handmatig selecteren:
schuifjes en vinkjes worden voorkeuren aangegeven en rolt er een portfolio model of fondsen uit. In Nederland hebben
we wel een breed & groeiende aanbod van low cost investing brokers, maar (nog) niets met deze selectie opties,

IFC lanceert innovative Social Bond Program*
De Internationbal Finance Corporation, onderdeel van de Wereldbank, lanceerde een 22 maart een innovative Social
Bond Program en haalde 500miljoen US$ op. Het IFC Social Bond program krijgt een jaarlijks impact report.

En voldoet aan de Social Bond Guidance van de International Capital Markets Association (ICMA) het secretariaat voor
de Green Bond Principles.
De obligatie heeft een looptijd van 3 jaar en de opbrengsten zijn voor providing finance to companies that buy
from smallholder farmers, provide utilities for low-income households, offer affordable health services,
education, or housing to low-income people. The funds will also be used to support financial institutions that
lend to women-owned enterprises. Het betreft dus zowel public als private equity, listed corps is o.a. Essilor (NYSE
Parijs, koers 112e, koopadviezen) zie verder LEAD.
Thema's Affordable basic infrastructure (e.g. clean drinking water, sewers, sanitation, transport) – Access to essential
services (e.g. health, education and vocational training, healthcare, financial services) – Affordable housing –
Employment generation including through the potential effect of SME financing and microfinance – Food security
– Socioeconomic advancement and empowerment. Examples of target populations not limited to: Living below the
poverty line, Excluded and/or marginalised populations and /or communities, Vulnerable groups including as a result of

Unemployed.
De emissie was 1,4 overschreven en 40 institutionele investeerders stapten in, een wereldwijd gezelschap, van
centrale banken, official institutions (?), pension funds & fund managers. 20% van de investeerders investeren
voor het eerst in IFC bonds. In de bondpresentation wordt verwezen naar de bestaande programma's en zijdelinks,
maar niet in detail, de bijdrage aan de nieuwe VN Sustainable Development Goals. Blogger: Ik zie geen banken en
relevante details voor kleine beleggers, coupon, ISIN listing plaats zijn nog onvindbaar, getuige de investeerders zal de
bond wel exclusive zijn.

PUBLIC POLICY facilitating GREEN BONDS
Public Green Bond Grant scheme Singapore
De Centrale bank, Monetary Authority van Singapore heeft een Green Bond Grant scheme aangekondigd voor de
kosten van Green Bond emissies. Het scheme begint nog dit jaar en verder is alleen bekend dat het scheme geldt voor
greenbonds in elke valuta;
emissie en notering in Singapore;
minimum omvang 200 million S$;
looptijd van minstens drie jaar.
Blogger: Zo faciliteert de overheid effectief, uit het EuroSIF 2016 onderzoek bleek dat veel partijen Green Bond
emissies onderzoeken, maar er ook veel afhaken. ClimateBonds.net stelt: Once issuers have come to market they tend
to find that the benefits outweigh any additional set-up costs, but it remains a bottleneck for new issuers.
Bovendien klagen groene obligatie emittanten in het EuroSIF rapport dat ze nog geen betere kostenbesparingen
realiseren, ondanks de overschrijving bij emissies en de verhoging van bedragen.

Hij verwijst naar vroeger toen Traditional investment

ontwikkelen van vermarktbare medicijnen i.e. low hanging fruit.

In 2016 heeft ook UBS, 's werelds grootste vermogensbeheerder, al 471 miljoen U$ ophaald voor haar UBS Oncology
Impact Fund. Investments will be made in early stage oncology to accelerate the development of new cures.
Cancer care is particularly appropriate for this kind of investment because of a supportive regulatory environment.
The market for cancer drugs is expected to grow faster than for any other disease, due to populations ageing
in developed countries and an expanding middle class in emerging markets with better access to care. Oncology is
the largest & fastest growing therapeutic area in terms of drug development activity, representing
approximately a quarter of total research spend.
Het fonds zal ook academisch onderzoek ondersteunen en betere toegang tot kankerbehandelingen in
ontwikkelde markten met een deel van de verdiensten van het fondsmanagement. Ook zal Half of a royalty attached
with best efforts to all successful drugs sales worden beheerd door de UBS Optimus Foundation voor financiering van
kankerbehandelingen van kinderen en hun families in ontwikkelde landen. De andere helft is voor het

Tom Hall van UBS philanthropy & impact investing services roept hun clientele op meer aan impact investing te
doen. Een schot voor open doel als je kijkt naar UBS top 270 family office clients waarvan 30% actively engaged is
in impactinvesting & 30% expect to be active in 2years. UBS is de grootste vermogensbeheerder van de wereld dus
die 270 doen er toe :) Procentueel is het kennelijk nog bescheiden, want Hall vervolgt If, for example, we can help our

bring around $100bn of new investment into this sector, a figure we believe could deliver real social change and eclipse

Hall fietst de Sustainable Development Goals er ook hier en daar nog even in*. Noot van de Blogger: Na de epic fail
quote in het chapeau (misschien een blooper van de afdeling communcatie) corrigeert Hall zichzelf 'with the exception
of a few pioneers like Omidyar, and Bill Gates to an extent, this group (filantropen) don't seem to be actively
engaging in impact investing'. Blogger: Gates bankiert vast niet bij UBS ;) De relevante vraag is, wat is de verhouding

UBS ON PUBLIC EQUITY IMPACT INVESTING
UBS collega Theo Clement uit Amsterdam van institutional clients globally on ESG and Impact Investing presenteerde
de UBS visie op public equity impact investing op de Impact Europe Summit. Het is de eerste keer dat public
equity een eigen plek krijgt op dit Nederlandse initiatief (Maart, Vredespaleis Den Haag, hoog bobo, Al Gore,
institutioneel en corporate gehalte, maar in de wandelgangen... is het ons toch gelukt :)!

Voor het World Economic Forum presenteerde UBS een White Paper: Mobilizing private wealth for public good met
interessante focus: de financiering van de Sustainble Development Goals. De belangrijke drempels:
• There is a lack of transparency regarding funding requirements that a country-based needs analysis suggests
arises from data scarcity and an absence of centralized information.
• Connections between stakeholders are insufficient to ensure that private philanthropic and for-profit capital
can seize opportunities to contribute to or participate in SDG funding.
• Incentive structures today principally attract institutional and philanthropic capital and do not align with the
risk-return characteristics of many private investors.
Bij de aanbevelingen wordt gewezen op het belang van investeren in impactmeting, standaardisering en transparantie,
ook om de gaten in de SDG funding aan te pakken. Focus van institutionele en overheids SDG investeringen die het
minst private of chari investeringen behoeven.
UBS bedoelt hiermee de volgende SDG's/sectoren: • clean water and sanitation • life on land • life below water •
responsible consumption • peace, justice and strong institutions • climate action • gender equality • reducing wider
inequality • partnership for the goals.

existentiële vragen voor ontwikkelingsorganisaties...

Impact als ANBI voorwaarde?
Mrs Metrics Dr Karen Maas, Impact Centre Erasmus ICE, die daar promoveerde op impact, CSR metrics waaronder van
de Hartstichting en o.a voor PGGM een private equity impact meting methode ontwikkelde pleit voor Impact als
criterium voor ANBI status: giften aftrek. Maas noemt St. de Verre Bergen van de Rotterdams van der Vorm's (HAL)
als voorbeeld van een fonds dat structureel en strategische impact en meting benut*. Maar het is helaas een
uitzondering**
Als Impact Centre Erasmus vertellen wij in gesprek met de Belastingdienst dat maatschappelijke impact een
voorwaarde moet zijn om aanspraak te maken op deze regeling. Die impactmeting kun je doortrekken naar de
portfolio van zo’n vermogensfonds. Want wat als zo’n fonds zijn winst naar Unicef stuurt, terwijl dat geld verdiend
is door te investeren in een organisatie (onderneming) die aan kinderarbeid doet? Daar wordt vaak niet naar
gekeken.’ Blogger: YES! Maas vervolgt: ‘Je kunt niet alles in cijfers uitdrukken. Dat kan ook averechts werken.
Blogger maar impact meting gaat natuurlijk niet over droge output en outcome cijfers ie kwantiteit het gaat juist over
kwaliteit en impact en die zijn op korte termijn lastiger te vangen in indrukwekkend cijfers.

Impact Investing in Cultuur I
De Verre Bergen gaat ook structureler investeren in cultuur in Rotterdam, ze ondersteunen BvB al met een Collectie-
gebouw om kunst in de depots toegankelijk te maken10
. Vanaf 2017 gaat de Verre Bergen/HAL investeren in kunst &
cultuur: Droom & Daad (D&D) en Wim Pijbes (Kunsthal, Rijksmuseum) wordt directeur ''Wat Droom en Daad gaat
doen is nog onbekend. Wel heeft Pijbes aangegeven projecten eerder te gaan steunen met een ton dan met
tienduizend euro''. FD: 'D&D gaat investeren in muziek, theater, dans, architectuur, film, literatuur en beeldende
kunst'. De Volkskrant: Het eerste project dat de nieuwe stichting steunt, is het International Film Festival Rotterdam
(IFFR). Pijbes: 'We willen investeren met het oog op de lange termijn en helpen om het festival een sprong te laten
maken.'
Blogger: Behalve dat D&D op Rotterdam gericht lijkt te zijn, gaat misschien niet echt andere dingen doen dan het
Blockbuster Fonds van J&J van den Ende dat ook groot denkt, investeert, vooral in marketing, slim samenwerkt en
lobbiet. Misschien is het een gevalletje ondernemersgeslacht versus self-made couple en klikt het gewoon niet.

Callanan geeft overtuigende cijfers qua potentie & early adapters in de VS:
• In 2015, the CDFI Fund of the US Treasury determined it had deployed $460 million into creative
placemaking and the creative economy....
• The Calvert Foundation recognized that $20 million of its existing $300 million investment portfolio was
supporting creative places and creative businesses.
• The Local Investment Support Corporation had already invested $26 million in creative placemaking
and the creative economy before setting up a dedicated program to do just that three years ago.
De argumenten: Even when communities lack financial assets, they have plenty of cultural heritage and creative
potential. Creative places and businesses are solidly investable, anchoring communities that often get passed
over, and effectively driving social impact. And creative people gravitate toward solving problems like how to turn
the tools of capitalism to positive things: stewarding the environment, building community cohesion, and
making wealth more inclusive. That is why artists are starting social-purpose businesses, including some of the 10
percent of US-based certified B Corporations in creative industries:

The arts receive 5 percent of US philanthropic giving, roughly $17 billion annually.
If the arts got 5 percent of all the investment assets of US foundations, that number would be $43 billion.
If the arts got just 0.5 percent of all the investment assets under management in the United States, that number would

Callanan nam zelf actie en startte Upstart Co-Lab to connect artists, impact investors, and social entrepreneurs to
create opportunities for artist innovators to deliver social impact at scale. One of Upstart’s goals was to unleash more
capital for creativity.
GROTE GEVERS GEGEVENS
Maas strooit in het Erasmus Magazine interview met interessante data over grote gevers in Nederland: Gemiddeld
geven vermogende particuliere relaties van .. ABNAMRO.. meer dan 11 duizend euro per jaar aan

maatschappelijke doelen. Dat is bijna twee keer zoveel als het bedrag dat uit een studie uit 2013 komt.
Rijke mensen geven überhaupt meer. Van de 1,5 miljard euro die Nederlandse huishoudens jaarlijks geven aan goede
doelen, wordt 20% opgebracht door miljonairs.
Uit onderzoek van Movisie blijkt dat mensen met een kapitaal van meer dan 50 duizend euro goed zijn voor 80%
van het totaal. Daarnaast is er, volgens een conservatieve schatting, via vermogensfondsen van filantropen nog
eens 184 miljoen euro beschikbaar.”

EXISTENTIËLE VRAGEN VOOR ONTWIKKELINGSORGANISATIES...
Jan van Berkel: Deel idealen weer
De voorzitter van GoedeDoelenNL Jan van Berkel (Leprastichting) pleit voor actieve marketing & sales be good & tell it
ipv focus op transparantie en de operationele kant van filantropie. DeDikkeBlauwe put uit ViceVersa, het magazine
vooe ontwikkelingssamenwerking. ''De goede doelensector heeft zich de laatste jaren te veel laten leiden door
technische zaken, zoals richtlijnen voor transparantie, keurmerken en codes voor goed bestuur en is vergeten de
maatschappelijke impact te delen met de donateurs. ‘Door het feit dat je transparant bent, bind en boei je geen nieuwe
donateurs. De sector lijkt te zijn vergeten dat het om de voorkant hoort te draaien.’ Dat zegt Jan van Berkel, directeur
van de Leprastichting en voorzitter van Goede Doelen Nederland, in een interview tegen het blad Vice Versa.

nou .... wat denk je van de impact van het werk ie de donaties, de echte resultaten en doelstreffende oplossingen ....
Als je die nu eens scherp hebt en helder en enthousiasmerend communiceert. Zoals de Gates' doen in hun brief aan
Buffet waarin ze uitleggen dat vaccinaties in de armste landen niet alleen direct kinderlevens redden, maar ook
geboortebeperking stimuleren en de kansen van kinderen omdat er minder verdeeld/gedeeld hoeft te worden en hoe
hard het ook klinkt de ouders meer investeren in kinderen als ze betere overlevingskansen hebben....
Vorige week publiceerde Stuart Hart de co auteur van the Bottom of the Pyramid een verhaal dat frappante
overeenkomsten vertoont met dit stuk hoewel het gaat over duurzame bedrijfsvoering en duurzaam investeren. Hij

The article drew attention to the fact that reward
systems in organizations are often well-intended but
misguided in that “behaviors which are rewarded are
those which the rewarder is trying to discourage,
while the behavior he desires is not being rewarded
at all.” Tragically, over 40 years later, the same
unfortunate quality can be ascribed to the now
burgeoning industry of corporate sustainability
reporting and ratings. en goede doelen?
NB In 1989 publiceerde ISS professor Johan Verloren
van Themaat een artikel met deze strekking over
ontwikkelingssamenwerking organisaties.
Hart vervolgt met stevige kritiek op het complexe
operationele systeem om duurzaamheid te meten.
Een doorwrocht systeem van complexe doordachte
methodieken dat teveel zichzelf perfectioneert (ofwel
aanpast aan kritiek en de praktijk) en toch de plank
flink misslaat wat betreft echte meerwaarde. De
oplossing as always innovatie: Hart noemt o.a. “Blue
Ocean Strategy,” van Chan Kim and Renee
Mauborgne. They emphasized the strategic move (or
initiative) as the key to innovation strategy, with the
majority of corporate growth (and later, profits)
coming from new strategic initiatives rather than from
the continuing development and improvement of
existing businesses.

De Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation die 4miljard? US$ aan wetenschappelijk onderzoek schonken verplichten de
onderzoekers per 1jan17 hun onderzoek & data openbaar te maken. De kosten of putting such research in one
particular repository of freely available papers neemt de foundation voor haar rekening. Bladen die onderzoek
dat door de Gates Foundation is gesponsord mogen daar geen kosten voor vragen. No pay walls. No journal
subscriptions. Blogger: Geen exclusiviteit crowdsourcing here we go!
Hiermee versnelt de Gates Foundation het bestuderen en benutten van wetenschappelijk onderzoek, waarvan de kennis
vertraagd beschikbaar komt in afwachting van beoordeling door experts in publicatie van een het liefst een prestigieus
wetenschappelijk tijdschrift. Zelden wordt de onderliggende data toegankelijk gemaakt. Die bladen vallen nu sowieso
buiten de boot, want ze hebben abbonementen en rekenen kosten.

uitgevers om zeep helpen dus heeft het een carrot & stick model: het bood
de uitgevers van Science, $100,000 to make papers published this year about
Gates-sponsored research free to read from the beginning. Als dat goed
gaat breidt het dit experiment uit.
Sommige uitgevers vragen de auteurs, i.e. De onderzoekssponsors om een
bedrag om de publicatie kosten van een artikel te dragen gem. 2000-3000
US$.
Sinds de jaren 90 zetten onderzoekers hun werk ook vaak alvast online om het
beschikbaar te maken, zie de platforms en hun groeicijfers in de grafiek. ArXiv
voor natuurkunde, wordt betaald door de Cornell University Library, de Simons
Foundation, een chari en fees van circa 200 leden, mn universiteiten. Op ArXiv
(X is de Griekse Chi) worden dagelijks 300 onderzoeken preprints gepost.
