This document summarizes a student's phase 1 project review on modifying a solar dryer to dry bunches of fruits. The student plans to modify the heat transfer mechanism and collector of the dryer to better remove moisture from fruits. Through literature review, the student learned renewable energy is growing in food drying, especially in developing countries. The modifications may help families, hotels, and schools by providing a passive, no-extra-energy dryer. For the next phase, the student will further study heat transfer mechanisms and solar collectors by learning about glass properties.
