Instructor creates a class. Instructor creates an assignment in Turnitin. Students or Instructors submit an assignment to the drop box. Turnitin compares the paper to all the material in their database. Turnitin produces an Originality Report.

What is Turnitin? Compares students papers to papers in their databases include websites, archived websites, journal articles, newspaper articles, and student papers also submitted in their databse. How does it work? It looks for word-to-word matches and tells you how similar the paper submitted is to other papers on the Internet, in publications or to other student papers.
