1.5 SWOT Analysis
1.6 Strategic Management
Strategic planning is the key to assuring that our organization is prepared for the challenges of tomorrow. It
is an organizational management activity that is used to set priorities, focus energy and resources, strengthen
operations, ensure that employees and other stakeholders are working toward common goals, establish
agreement around intended outcomes and results, assess and adjust the organization's direction in response to
a changing environment. With this, objective such as understanding the benefits of strategic planning;
understanding the products of strategic planning; and learning the keys to successful planning and
implementation shall be achieved. Without strategic planning, an organisation will tend to use up their
energy coping with immediate problems with little energy left to anticipate and prepare for the next
challenges. Therefore, strategic planning involves step by step process with definite objectives and end
products that can be implemented and evaluated. It is a process by which we look into the future, paint a
picture of that future based on current trends, and influence the forces that will affect us
As for Kuàng Sdn Bhd our strategic planning include working in transparent way, focus on participation of
every employees in the company and also set a benchmark to monitor and evaluate the company’s process in
accordance with the strategic planning.

O T
Working in transparent manner
Our company pay attention and emphasis on the way work is done and display. Therefore, work in an open
and transparent way where information is documented from start to finish is significant. We believe that if
work are not done in a transparent and open manner, insecurity within employee will tent to build up hence
reduces integrity and trust which will then affect employee’s working performance. As consequences, it
would be impossible to achieve our company’s goals. By practicing this manner, we held a two weeks once
meeting to report on the company’s work performance, where employees will then be clear and understand
about what is going on, know our company’s direction and therefore develop trust among one another to
work together as a team toward the companies vision.
Representative Participation
Representatives from all areas of the organization and adhere to the steps of the process in our company’s
strategic planning. By participating, everyone should have input and ideally, everyone should feel a sense of
ownership over the final plan. We strongly encourage participating of all the employees in our company. By
saying so, we make sure to involve almost every department, by sending representative to offer opinion and
idea in every decision our company made. Since we’re still a small company, we’re able to do so by often
having spontaneous meetings and brainstorming session with almost all the department, as a result, build up
the sense of ownership among every employee in every department by making them participate. As
conclusion, such personal commitment will facilitate the implementation process.
Set benchmark
Another piece of this process is the creation of benchmark that will allow our company to determine how
well it is performing against goals and objectives as it implements the strategic plan. In our company, we
practice a one week once progress meeting session where head of department are require to report on work
that their department had done. By doing so, evaluation are given and determine whether that particular work
or task is necessary and whether or not is it benefiting the company. If implementation of the particular task
is not befitting the company, it may be call to a stop or innovate to make necessary adjustment and
improvement in order for things to work out. In addition, this planning process should determine which
executives are accountable for ensuring that benchmarking activities take place at planned times and also for
ensuring that certain and specific objectives are met.

1.7 Organizational Culture
Having great company culture is no longer just an option. Today’s workers consider it as much as they
consider salary and benefits. A key part of company culture is how employees are treated and what level of
ownership and trust they are given. The larger a company becomes, the more that culture has to reinvent
itself to accommodate more employees and the need for management. A good company culture should makes
all employees feel safe and welcome, never excluded or uncomfortable.
Kuàng Sdn Bhd also believe that if we start with the right values and then hire people who reflect those
values, the rest of the things fall more easily into place. We believe that when our employees are completely
immersed in the same interests as the company, the culture propels itself forward almost on its own.
Our company practices friendly coworkers and a team-oriented environment in which each person is
motivated by the company’s goals have inspired that praise. In context with this, communication is
significant. Since we’re a small company, communication among top management and lower management
typically happen through face-to-face talk rather than emails or memo due to the high collaboration of
everyone in the company. We don’t practice a strict and firm hierarchy system among employer and
employees, and therefore we highly encourage every employees to share their ideas in order for our company
to innovate and improve.
Besides, being passionate is also one of our company’s key culture. To further elaborate this, when an
employee is passionate on what they do, their work and words tend to spill straight from their soul while
their face “lights up”, they want to share details about the impact of their work and they want you to know
why the cause is near and dear to their heart. Finding passion in putting others first, our employees are
people who is passionate about putting others first. This value plays a significant role in our company
because it has allowed us to weed out people who would potentially put themselves before our clients or may
not work in harmony with the rest of our team, despite otherwise being highly qualified.
Lastly, award and encouragement. Our company practices a monthly performance appraisals for every
employees. Employers are require to praise on things that are done very well by each employees as well as
comment on things that is needed to be improved. This does not only help the employees to develop their
personal performance towards the company, but it also helps strengthening the career planning pathway. We
strongly believe that by practicing this performance appraisal, it’ll enable our company to achieve better
management performance among the employees hence driving our company toward accomplishing our
company's vision.

Advantages and Disadvantages of DISC Personality Test used for interview
There are pros and cons to every aspect, so as well as DISC personality test. First would be the advanatge.
By using DISC personality test as one of the tools interview assessment, it enhance efficiency of the
interview section. This is because in this personality test, there are readily prepared question which are in
fixed format to test the applicant’s personality and therefore provide a brief assessment of the interviewer.
This brief assessment hence enable interviewer to have a brief first impression of the applicants which
will then indirectly affect how interviewer assess applicants in next few interview activities.
The disadvantages interview through DISC test is there is a high probability that applicants might not
answer the question honesty. The desire of applicants to get hire increase chances of them being in honest
in accessing this personality test and therefore affect the end result. Therefore, there is a need of other
interview activity to enable interviewer to further assess and evaluate applicant in order to hire the
company's desire type of employee.
of16 26
2.2.2 Face to face interviews
Compared to virtual interviews, a proper face to face interview is the best way to collect data from the
applicant since a set of questions of tasks must be performed by the applicant. From how the applicant dress
and answered, we as the interviewer can determine who qualified as the company recruits through their
answers and information.
Some of the questions that are great to determine the applicant’s attitude about the position is by,
1. Why do you choose to work in this company?

Question like this may seem too common to ask during a face to face interview but it is important to us,
as we the interviewer can know the applicant’s intention. Some applicants might expects opportunity to
promote as it give them a brand new leaf to prove what they are capable of while some fresh graduates
prefer to learn from the experts while getting exposure to the industry.
2. What kind of goals you have in mind if you were to have this position?
A career development type question like so is best in identifying whether the applicant is clear on what he/
she is capable in doing for the company. A well prepared applicant will answer in a timeline format where
he/she explains on what he/she wants to do in a particular timeline. For example, “ I wish to lead one of the
department in the company where I can share my experience and understand more about my subordinates.”
By answering so, it creates a good impression to the interviewer where the applicant proved to be confident.

Besides asking a career type development question or get to know them better question, it is good to
implement some real life scenario questions, where we gave them a potential real life scenario question and
evaluate them based on how they solve and answer it. For example,
a. Since our company is a supplier based company, we might face risk in terms of gaining trust from
the industry’s client as we are still new. If 2 years down the road, and we have yet to make any
progress, you as a subordinate of the marketing department, how would you evaluate this situation?
(assuming the position hiring is under marketing department)

This question can be come as a surprise to the applicant as some of them may not be well prepared for this
kind of question, but this is also a great way to filter out applicants that are not willing to face challenges as
situation like so or even worse may arise. The best way to answer this is to answer based on the applicant’s
experience have. If the applicant is no expert in this kind of situation, the applicant can answer, “ I will refer
back to my manager or head as I am not expert in situation like so, but I understand that my opinion does
matters too. But if a well solution is planned out, I am prepared to serve for the company as I am willing to
face all challenges faced.”

When we the interviewer receive response like so, it at least proved how loyal the applicant can be, but even
so, their loyalty can change accordance to time.
of17 26
2.2.3 Bootcamp Interview
A bootcamp interview is good in terms of further understanding the applicant as a boot camp can be either 2
days 1 nights or 3 days 2 nights, where the whole purpose is to test and identify how applicants handle
situation or tasks, or even how well they work together as a team since majority of the time, we as the
developer company rely on teamwork more than individual skills.
Not only that, boot camp can also filter out potential applicant by eliminating others applicants which may
not be ready to handle the position based on how they performed. For example,
Group assessment activities.
• This test how well applicants can work together as a team as well as identifying some of the
potential leader while going through the group assessment activities.

How the group assessment work,
• Assuming the total number of applicants are 15.

• Applicants are divided into groups of 5 where distribution of task or roles can be done easily.

• Then a certain task is given to every team where they will be competing with each other. The reason
to make them compete with each other is to make sure the applicants are willing to show their
determination and what they are capable of.

Task, “ In group of 5, members are required to come out a product based on the tools and accessories
given, newspaper, duct tape, color papers, color markers and a scissors. After coming out with the
product, members are required to pitch the product and sell to the client, which is the interviewer.
Teams that are able to gain the most profit wins.
• The reason for coming up with this task is to test on how well applicants can generate ideas in a
short amount of time as well as determine how they can sell the product made based on how they
convey their message.

• While the task is executed, we as the interviewer will start assessing based on these values.

of18 26
1. Proactivity

• Proactive applicants can be easily identified as there are usually the one that is willing to give
opinion and ideas on how the task should be done. These are the applicants that the interviewer
should look out for. Also, applicants that are quiet and not willing in participate in group discussion
in coming out ideas for making the product, we the interviewer must try to get them to leave their
comfort zone to contribute to the team as they may have their potential in achieving something.

2. Motivation

• Applicant that possessed high motivation values should be considered in the yes list as failure is
inevitable in a new company, especially a developer company where we can face trouble in gaining
trust from the industry. By having applicants like so can at least make the situation faced less tensed
and stressful.

C. Inquisitiveness
• This value is important as applicant should be eager and explore new things as we as a new company
still have a lot more to learn in the industry despite the fact that we consists of experienced workers.

• There are more values that can be look out for, but generally, these 3 are the values that an applicant
company should hire.

• After the tasks is finished, results are given and each team members are vital to have a constructive
feedback session about the task as well as the team members that they are with.

• By looking how each team reacts on their results, it can determine how teams overcome failure and
celebrate success.

of19 26
Besides having indoor group assessment activities like so, outdoor activities can be one of the activities as
some applicants prefer outdoor environment than indoor. Some of the activities that can be test is, rock
climbing.
Rock climbing
It may seem to be unrelated to what we do in the company, but by assessing applicants through rock
climbing, it can test their observation and analysation skills as each rock is placed in a random placement,
where the climber have to identify which rock is most suitable for them to step on as each steps that made
can affect the journey from the bottom to the peak. This can reflect back to how applicant face challenges
and obstacles in the future which can come in random direction, where a suitable solution must be done to
minimize as much losses as possible in order to achieve a greater result.
Not only that, by assessing applicants through rock climbing, it can determine their individual attitudes and
determination towards the challenge faced, which is to climb to the peak. A determined applicant will try and
give its best to climb to the peak to prove that he/she is determine to do something when a task is given.
But so, by using this method to assess applicants may not be too effective as the activities done rely on
physical movement and muscle endurance, as some applicant may not be physically fit to do such activities.
Therefore an evaluation of both activities in terms of group assessment as well as individual assessment must
be done to collect as much data and informations about the applicant before deciding who is best to take the
position.

Building Information Modeling is one of the information technology and information management that
our company had chosen. BIM is a 3D model-based process that gives architecture, engineering, and
construction professionals the insight and tools to more efficiently plan, design, construct, and manage
buildings and infrastructure. BIM gathers input from team members to model the components and tools
that will be used during the construction process to create a unique perspective of the building process.
The reason why our company choose to use BIM because it is a very powerful tool that when used
properly will save money, time and simplify the construction process. By using BIM, everyone is able to
access the information and hence improve decision making and performance. In this way, the risk of
mistakes is reduced, and abortive costs is minimized.
Cloud Computing
Instead of having to buy software for every employee, a company can enable the employees to work in a
web based service where they can implement the software via a virtual machine that was installed in a
distant server along with the particular software application. The computers are all connected to a network
upon which this service can be provided. This idea is known as cloud computing. Cloud computing is the
delivery of computing services that basically shared resources, software and information. It consists of
servers, storage, databases, networking, software, analytics and more. Cloud computing is everywhere.
Starting from email server (like Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo) to Dropbox, cloud computing is used not only
for processing data but also storing it.
Cloud computing is another one of the information technology and information management used in our
company. We chose cloud computing because it has the ability to provide freedom and easy access to
information for employees anytime, from any location such as job sites and customer locations across the
world. This ability may allow our employees to be more flexible in their work practices and hence
increase the productivity of our company.

3.4 Competitive advantage of our company other than IT and how is it
sustainable in this industry
Lowest price
In this construction field, cost of a construction is usually a big amount. Lower prices is one of the
competitive advantages in our company. The reason why we can sell our product at the lowest price in
market because we ordered large amount of rare material, therefore we do get discount. Where we order
our material from is also one of the reason why we can sell our product for lower price. We order our
material from direct from China, lower labour costs in China allowed a reduction is variable costs, which
made our unit prices cheaper. This applies well to goods where labour costs make up a high percentage of
the cost of good. The other reason will be mass production, there is so much market left for commodity
out there Chinese manufacturers have no problem lumping many orders of the same thing together to gain
incredible level of economy of scale. Those reasons are why they are able to sell on a cheaper price. The
mind-set of the high level management of the company is the key for the company to sustain in the field,
our mind set is to have a long term relationship with the customer. We sell at a lower price in order to
retain our customer and able to maintain the business in the long run. The price we listed for our product
is based on the grade of the item.
Convenient and time saving
In this construction field, when a project is confirmed, there is plenty of procurement have to be made and
one of the important procurement is procuring material for the project. Our company service can save up
the time for client while procuring framing structure material due to our company provide all framing
structure material such as concrete, rebar, formwork. The reason why our company able to sustain in the
field is because client don't need survey place to place and call over places to quote for the price and order
material separately. Client can order everything direct from our company. Our company provide
delivering service and delivering time are very punctual, it can save up client’s time and start the project
as soon as possible to prevent any delay of the construction process. This convenient will retain the good
relationship between us and clients.

  • 9. 1.5 SWOT Analysis 1.6 Strategic Management Strategic planning is the key to assuring that our organization is prepared for the challenges of tomorrow. It is an organizational management activity that is used to set priorities, focus energy and resources, strengthen operations, ensure that employees and other stakeholders are working toward common goals, establish agreement around intended outcomes and results, assess and adjust the organization's direction in response to a changing environment. With this, objective such as understanding the benefits of strategic planning; understanding the products of strategic planning; and learning the keys to successful planning and implementation shall be achieved. Without strategic planning, an organisation will tend to use up their energy coping with immediate problems with little energy left to anticipate and prepare for the next challenges. Therefore, strategic planning involves step by step process with definite objectives and end products that can be implemented and evaluated. It is a process by which we look into the future, paint a picture of that future based on current trends, and influence the forces that will affect us As for Kuàng Sdn Bhd our strategic planning include working in transparent way, focus on participation of every employees in the company and also set a benchmark to monitor and evaluate the company’s process in accordance with the strategic planning. of9 26 Strength - Well experience employee (10 years working experience) - Good access to distribution (well connected to developer and contractor) - Business mindset (willing to take risk) - Able to provide accurate quantities of material Weakness - Insufficient capital (high startup cost) - Insufficient number of employees - lack of experience in management skill - Insufficient reliable and trustworthy background of company Opportunities - Competitive advantage : profession in quantity calculation - possibility to additional integration Threats - Existence of other well experienced company - Reduce chances of alliance with bank & insurance company - Decline in Malaysia economy S W O T
  • 10. Working in transparent manner Our company pay attention and emphasis on the way work is done and display. Therefore, work in an open and transparent way where information is documented from start to finish is significant. We believe that if work are not done in a transparent and open manner, insecurity within employee will tent to build up hence reduces integrity and trust which will then affect employee’s working performance. As consequences, it would be impossible to achieve our company’s goals. By practicing this manner, we held a two weeks once meeting to report on the company’s work performance, where employees will then be clear and understand about what is going on, know our company’s direction and therefore develop trust among one another to work together as a team toward the companies vision. Representative Participation Representatives from all areas of the organization and adhere to the steps of the process in our company’s strategic planning. By participating, everyone should have input and ideally, everyone should feel a sense of ownership over the final plan. We strongly encourage participating of all the employees in our company. By saying so, we make sure to involve almost every department, by sending representative to offer opinion and idea in every decision our company made. Since we’re still a small company, we’re able to do so by often having spontaneous meetings and brainstorming session with almost all the department, as a result, build up the sense of ownership among every employee in every department by making them participate. As conclusion, such personal commitment will facilitate the implementation process. Set benchmark Another piece of this process is the creation of benchmark that will allow our company to determine how well it is performing against goals and objectives as it implements the strategic plan. In our company, we practice a one week once progress meeting session where head of department are require to report on work that their department had done. By doing so, evaluation are given and determine whether that particular work or task is necessary and whether or not is it benefiting the company. If implementation of the particular task is not befitting the company, it may be call to a stop or innovate to make necessary adjustment and improvement in order for things to work out. In addition, this planning process should determine which executives are accountable for ensuring that benchmarking activities take place at planned times and also for ensuring that certain and specific objectives are met.

Besides, being passionate is also one of our company’s key culture. To further elaborate this, when an employee is passionate on what they do, their work and words tend to spill straight from their soul while their face “lights up”, they want to share details about the impact of their work and they want you to know why the cause is near and dear to their heart. Finding passion in putting others first, our employees are people who is passionate about putting others first. This value plays a significant role in our company because it has allowed us to weed out people who would potentially put themselves before our clients or may not work in harmony with the rest of our team, despite otherwise being highly qualified. Lastly, award and encouragement. Our company practices a monthly performance appraisals for every employees. Employers are require to praise on things that are done very well by each employees as well as comment on things that is needed to be improved. This does not only help the employees to develop their personal performance towards the company, but it also helps strengthening the career planning pathway. DISC profile is a non-judgemental tool that is used to discuss people's behavioral differences. If interviewees participate in a DISC program, they will be asked to complete a series of questions that produce a detailed report about every interviewee’s personality and behavior. First would be the advanatge. By using DISC personality test as one of the tools interview assessment, it enhance efficiency of the interview section. This is because in this personality test, there are readily prepared question which are in fixed format to test the applicant’s personality and therefore provide a brief assessment of the interviewer. This brief assessment hence enable interviewer to have a brief first impression of the applicants which will then indirectly affect how interviewer assess applicants in next few interview activities. The disadvantages interview through DISC test is there is a high probability that applicants might not answer the question honesty. The desire of applicants to get hire increase chances of them being in honest in accessing this personality test and therefore affect the end result. Therefore, there is a need of other interview activity to enable interviewer to further assess and evaluate applicant in order to hire the company's desire type of employee. of16 26
  • 17. 2.2.2 Face to face interviews Compared to virtual interviews, a proper face to face interview is the best way to collect data from the applicant since a set of questions of tasks must be performed by the applicant. From how the applicant dress and answered, we as the interviewer can determine who qualified as the company recruits through their answers and information. Some of the questions that are great to determine the applicant’s attitude about the position is by, 1. Why do you choose to work in this company?
Question like this may seem too common to ask during a face to face interview but it is important to us, as we the interviewer can know the applicant’s intention. Some applicants might expects opportunity to promote as it give them a brand new leaf to prove what they are capable of while some fresh graduates prefer to learn from the experts while getting exposure to the industry. 2. What kind of goals you have in mind if you were to have this position? A career development type question like so is best in identifying whether the applicant is clear on what he/ she is capable in doing for the company. A well prepared applicant will answer in a timeline format where he/she explains on what he/she wants to do in a particular timeline. For example, “ I wish to lead one of the department in the company where I can share my experience and understand more about my subordinates.” By answering so, it creates a good impression to the interviewer where the applicant proved to be confident.
Besides asking a career type development question or get to know them better question, it is good to implement some real life scenario questions, where we gave them a potential real life scenario question and evaluate them based on how they solve and answer it. For example, a. Since our company is a supplier based company, we might face risk in terms of gaining trust from the industry’s client as we are still new. If 2 years down the road, and we have yet to make any progress, you as a subordinate of the marketing department, how would you evaluate this situation? (assuming the position hiring is under marketing department)
This question can be come as a surprise to the applicant as some of them may not be well prepared for this kind of question, but this is also a great way to filter out applicants that are not willing to face challenges as situation like so or even worse may arise. The best way to answer this is to answer based on the applicant’s experience have. If the applicant is no expert in this kind of situation, the applicant can answer, “ I will refer back to my manager or head as I am not expert in situation like so, but I understand that my opinion does matters too. But if a well solution is planned out, I am prepared to serve for the company as I am willing to face all challenges faced.”
When we the interviewer receive response like so, it at least proved how loyal the applicant can be, but even so, their loyalty can change accordance to time. of17 26
  • 18. 2.2.3 Bootcamp Interview A bootcamp interview is good in terms of further understanding the applicant as a boot camp can be either 2 days 1 nights or 3 days 2 nights, where the whole purpose is to test and identify how applicants handle situation or tasks, or even how well they work together as a team since majority of the time, we as the developer company rely on teamwork more than individual skills. Not only that, boot camp can also filter out potential applicant by eliminating others applicants which may not be ready to handle the position based on how they performed. For example, Group assessment activities. • This test how well applicants can work together as a team as well as identifying some of the potential leader while going through the group assessment activities.
How the group assessment work, • Assuming the total number of applicants are 15.
 • Applicants are divided into groups of 5 where distribution of task or roles can be done easily.
 • Then a certain task is given to every team where they will be competing with each other. The reason to make them compete with each other is to make sure the applicants are willing to show their determination and what they are capable of.
Task, “ In group of 5, members are required to come out a product based on the tools and accessories given, newspaper, duct tape, color papers, color markers and a scissors. After coming out with the product, members are required to pitch the product and sell to the client, which is the interviewer. Teams that are able to gain the most profit wins. • The reason for coming up with this task is to test on how well applicants can generate ideas in a short amount of time as well as determine how they can sell the product made based on how they convey their message.
 • While the task is executed, we as the interviewer will start assessing based on these values.
 of18 26
  • 19. 1. Proactivity
 • Proactive applicants can be easily identified as there are usually the one that is willing to give opinion and ideas on how the task should be done. These are the applicants that the interviewer should look out for. Also, applicants that are quiet and not willing in participate in group discussion in coming out ideas for making the product, we the interviewer must try to get them to leave their comfort zone to contribute to the team as they may have their potential in achieving something.
 2. Motivation
 • Applicant that possessed high motivation values should be considered in the yes list as failure is inevitable in a new company, especially a developer company where we can face trouble in gaining trust from the industry. By having applicants like so can at least make the situation faced less tensed and stressful.
 C. Inquisitiveness • This value is important as applicant should be eager and explore new things as we as a new company still have a lot more to learn in the industry despite the fact that we consists of experienced workers.
 • There are more values that can be look out for, but generally, these 3 are the values that an applicant company should hire.
 • After the tasks is finished, results are given and each team members are vital to have a constructive feedback session about the task as well as the team members that they are with.
 • By looking how each team reacts on their results, it can determine how teams overcome failure and celebrate success.

  • 20. Besides having indoor group assessment activities like so, outdoor activities can be one of the activities as some applicants prefer outdoor environment than indoor. Some of the activities that can be test is, rock climbing. Rock climbing It may seem to be unrelated to what we do in the company, but by assessing applicants through rock climbing, it can test their observation and analysation skills as each rock is placed in a random placement, where the climber have to identify which rock is most suitable for them to step on as each steps that made can affect the journey from the bottom to the peak. This can reflect back to how applicant face challenges and obstacles in the future which can come in random direction, where a suitable solution must be done to minimize as much losses as possible in order to achieve a greater result. Not only that, by assessing applicants through rock climbing, it can determine their individual attitudes and determination towards the challenge faced, which is to climb to the peak. A determined applicant will try and give its best to climb to the peak to prove that he/she is determine to do something when a task is given. But so, by using this method to assess applicants may not be too effective as the activities done rely on physical movement and muscle endurance, as some applicant may not be physically fit to do such activities. Therefore an evaluation of both activities in terms of group assessment as well as individual assessment must be done to collect as much data and informations about the applicant before deciding who is best to take the position. of20 26
