Highlands

2. Introduction
Africa RISING in the Ethiopian highlands operates in four regions of Ethiopia. The project, in
the first phase, focused more on action research and implemented the research interventions
in four woredas (districts) - one woreda per region. In the second phase, the project has given
attention to both action research and facilitating scaling of its validated technologies. The
project broadened its operational area from four woredas to 28 woredas by creating a set of
strong development partnerships.
The Africa RISING coordination team visited local partners in SNNPR, Oromia and Amhara
regions and conducted series of updating meetings during 16-17 January 2019, 11-16 March
2019 and 19 -20 March 2019. The objectives of the meetings were to evaluate how
partnerships are progressing, to identify the type of activities that are managed by each of
the local partners and establish joint activities for the upcoming 2019 cropping season.
Potential collaboration areas with research and higher learning institutions: jointly validate
action research and generate evidence, conduct backstopping research while development
partners scale technologies, capacity building and provision of basic germplasm.
Potential collaboration with extension, NGOs and other development partners:
Demonstration of validated technologies, scaling technologies and seed and seedling
multiplication
Potential collaboration with cooperatives, unions and enterprises: seed and seedling
multiplication, demonstration
