Public spaces are an important part of cities that impact how residents live and feel about their community. Key elements that make public spaces successful include access, opportunities for social interaction, activities and amenities, and an inviting atmosphere. Examples of public spaces that utilize these elements effectively include Paley Park in New York City, the High Line elevated park, and Wahringer Park in Vienna which provide greenery, seating, and a sense of tranquility for residents.

New York’s High Line park.

It is an elevated railway that ran through three
neighbourhoods on Manhattan's West Side, and when the
train stopped running, it became a self-seeded landscape
a kind of a garden in the sky.
Greening public spaces can improve air quality, absorb
carbon and help reduce the urban heat island
effect, public space is ultimately about prioritising
pedestrians
