It has always been my childhood dream to attain the highest education possible.Unfortunately, this
dream has eluded me several times due to reasons beyond my control. Despite all the elusions and
roadblocks I experienced on my journey to fulfill this dream, my determination and desire has never
faltered. This is because I kept my eyes opened and focused on future.
My parents separated when I was in 10thgrade and things became very tough for me but I was able to
graduate from grade school in Nigeria with the little help my mom could provide financially.
Unfortunately things changed when I got to High School.
Unlike Grade school, high school was not free of charge.Parents pay tuition and buy school materials.
This was very difficult for my mom because I wasn’t the only child attending school.Three of myyounger
siblings were also in school and mom had no lucrative job.We all lived on an income from her meager
job which was not enough. As a result of this, I had to work on weekends to earn little money to
support myself in school. Although, I was very young I grew up in a country where child labor is not
uncommon. Consider the the government does not have any program, such as welfare or food stamp
assistance;there are practically no laws against child labor. Relatively speaking people have to do
whatever necessary to survive and there is little the government could do to prevent it. When I finished
high school I worked as an account clerk before I traveled to Canada.
I spent almost 10 years in Canada working as factory worker in the Aluminum Industry. It was difficult
for me to go to school because I had to work to support my aging mother and other younger siblings in
school in my country. Despite the fact thatI liked the job, learn how to operate various machineries,
getting promoted rapidly up to the supervisory level, getting hugeyearly raises, I still kept reminding
myself that this is not a place I wanted to be. So I remained focused on the future by constantly
reminding myself that I needed to go back to school.
When I left Canada for Unites State in 2001, I did not want to repeat the same mistakes I made in
Canada. Therefore, I decided to enroll in college and get my degree before seeking for job. I got my
bachelor’s degree in less than three years. Although it took me a longer time after finishing my high
school to get my undergraduate degree, I considered it one of my greatest achievements in life. I paid
for my college tuition with money I had saved while working in Canada. I ultimately proceeded to
earnmy MBA degree in Finance after realizing how well I did during my undergraduatestudies. I decided
to take a break from school to work to support my newlyfamily. Even though I got married and have two
children, my desire to go back to school to attain the highest possible degree has always been on my
mind.
My educational background helped greatly in my first position as anInvestment Accountant with PFPC
Worldwide Inc. right after college and subsequentlyas a Trader with Bank of America. Having a
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and MBA in Finance did not only give me better understanding of how
the financial markets operate, but also helped me to execute every project I worked on successfully. I
was promoted within a year on the job from Investment Accountant I to Investment Accountant II at
PFPC. It usually takes two years to get to this level. I helped solved several problems such as creating a
new and easy excel formula to calculate Net Asset Value (NAV). I developed a new template for
calculation of interest on bonds. I developed easy step by step procedural manual for cooperate action
processing. I was very proud of myself on my achievements.
Likewise at Bank of America, I was promoted within a year from JuniorTrader to Senior Operation
Analyst. One of my greatest achievements at Bank of American was writing a manual for the new
employees on how to execute trades, trade stocks and bonds and calculations of interest on various
bonds. Before writing the manual, new employees had to be trained by experienced employees thus
causing them to spend more time away from their normal duties which then resulted in missed
deadlines and errors. After I wrote the manual, the rate of errors in our department dropped
significantly.
I took a managerial job with Mazia’s Store after I was laid off from Bank of America during the economy
meltdown in 2009. It was at this point that I finally made up my mind to achieve my lifelong dream by
pursuingaDoctorate degree in business administration. I know this degree will help me immensely in this
tough competitive market. I intend to seek for another managerial position in my next job. I strongly
believe being a candidate for the DBA program will not only enhance my chances of getting amanagerial
position but will also put me ahead of my competitors.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that as a DBA candidate, I bring to the table years of work experience
which includes steady and continuous promotions, an unrelenting pursuit of knowledge, a passion for
success, and a belief that anything is possible if we can positively imagine it into existence. Throughout
my adult life, I never lost my path and I hope you will allow me this opportunity torealize my full
potential at your institution.

Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
