verbal, sexual, physical, or mental
abuse, corporal punishment, and involuntary
seclusion.

4. Examples of abuse
• Neglect
• Case- State v. Cunningham
A person commits neglect of a resident of a
health care facility when the person knowingly
exposes them to physical dangers and
unhealthy and unsanitary physical conditions

5. Examples of abuse
• Forcible administration of medications
• Holding the patient’s chin down is not
authorized without emergency notification to
head nurse and physican

6. Improvement Strategies
• Increase patient interaction
• Review patient records thoroughly
• Quality control meetings at lowest levels
• Increase in family participation
