Tips to Stay Flu-Free | Accent by Chubb

  1. 1. Tips to Stay Flu-Free Options abound, but what is best for you?
  2. 2. A case of the flu can wreak havoc on everything from your holiday party plans to your busy work schedule. No one wants to be stuck home and feeling miserable during “the most wonderful time of the year.” But the flu isn’t the same as a bad cold. Many people underestimate just how dangerous influenza can be, especially for young children, pregnant women and the elderly. Protect yourself and those around you with the golden rules of flu-free safety.
  3. 3. The No. 1 way to prevent the flu is immunization. You can get your flu shot at your doctor’s office, some pharmacies or possibly even your workplace. Make sure that you and everyone in your family who can get the vaccine does so. Flu shots can be given to children who are at least 6 months of age, and a nasal-spray vaccine can be given to healthy children who are at least age 2. Vaccines Save Lives
  4. 4. Babies under 6 months and people with certain allergies or health conditions cannot be vaccinated. These populations may also be at an increased risk of complications if they contract the flu. The best way to protect these members of your family and community is to make sure those around them are vaccinated. For additional information on vaccines and flu season safety, visit The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Vaccines Save Lives
  5. 5. Infected people will cough, sneeze and blow their nose— all of which can spread droplets containing the flu virus. Some people are surprised to learn that individuals with the flu are actually contagious a day before they show any symptoms—and up to five days after they feel better. So even if you don’t notice others coughing or sneezing, it’s important to get into the habit of regularly and thoroughly washing your hands. Soap and warm water is best, but you may also want to keep hand sanitizer at your desk and carry disinfectant wipes in your bag. Prevent The Spread Of Germs
  6. 6. Avoid touching your face and potentially spreading germs to your nose, throat and lungs. Do not share food or drinks with anyone, and wash all dishes, cups or utensils in hot water with detergent. Finally, regularly sanitize frequently touched surfaces, like phones, doorknobs, countertops and light switches. So treat yourself to some new scented soaps and cleansers—and stay healthy! Prevent The Spread Of Germs
