In this response to our request to shut down the South Texas Family Residential Center (STFRC), Commissioner of Texas' Department of Family and Protective Services responded that his agency has no authority to protect children detained there.

According to the Pennysvania Department of Public Welfare, the Berks County Residential Center (Used by ICE to detain immigrant children and women) "is not operating as a secure care facility and has no locks preventing resident children or their families from gaining egress from the building." In other words, the PA State government states that children and their families should be able to leave the BCRC whenever they want.
