Target Audience: Children or teenagers who want to learn how to make chocolate chip cookies but have some prior knowledge of bakingLearner Objective: To learn how to make chocolate chip cookiesHello everyone, my name is Abbie Jordan and I am here today to teach you how to make some delicious chocolate chip cookies. These are my absolute favorite chocolate chip cookies and they are simple to make! You can give them to your friend for their next birthday!
This is a list of all the ingredients you will need to make these cookies. You will need 1 Cup or 2 sticks of butter, usually I set it out about an hour or so before I want to make the cookies so it softens on its own. You will also need ¾ Cup of sugar, ¾ Cup of brown sugar, 1 teaspoon of vanilla, and 2 eggs. The dry ingredients you need are 2 ¼ cup of unsifted flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, 1 teaspoon of salt and lastly 2 cups of chocolate chips, I like the Nestle semisweet ones best.
To make the cookie dough, you will either want to use a stand mixer as shown on the screen or a hand mixer works just as well. You will also need a rubber spatula to scrape the dough off the beater and the sides of the bowl, a ¼ measuring cup and a 1 cup measuring cup as well as a teaspoon. For baking you will want 2 baking sheets as well as some oven mitts so you don’t burn yourself when you remove them from the oven and 2 wire cooling racks to put the cookies on afterwards.
The first thing you should do before you even begin the dough is to preheat the oven to 350 °F. If you are making the dough and storing it to make the cookies later, you do not need to preheat the oven. Next if your butter is not already softened, then you will want to put it in the microwave for about 10 seconds, about 40 if you just took it out of the freezer. Before adding anything else to the mixer, you will want to whip the butter in the mixer. The next thing you will need to add is the ¾ Cup brown sugar, ¾ Cup sugar, and 1 tsp vanilla.
After mixing well, this is what your mixture should look like. If you have chunks of butter still, it is alright, it just means the butter wasn’t quite soften enough but they will be worked out eventually.
Next you are going to add 2 eggs and beat them in thoroughly. But before you beat the eggs in, make sure you didn’t drop any of the shell in with the egg. Always have had a hard time getting the shell back out? Well here is an easy tip on how to get that piece of shell out. (show video) Now you’ll never have problems with those tiny pieces of shell again. After you mix in the eggs thoroughly, scrape down the sides of the bowl with a rubber spatula so that there is nothing left on the sides of the bowl.
Next, you will add in the flour, but not all at once. Add the flour first ¼ Cup and the 1 tsp of salt and 1 tsp of baking soda first. You will want to add the flour in half cup increments afterwards. You will want to scrape down the sides of the bowl after you thoroughly mix each flour addition. After you have thoroughly mixed in all the flour, add the two cups of chocolate chips and mix them into the dough.
Want to mix up those traditional chocolate chip cookies? Try adding in a different type of chip like a butterscotch chip or a white chocolate chip. M&M’s are always a good substitute if you don’t have any chocolate chips in the house. You can also try any kind of different nut like a macadamia nut as long as you know the person you are baking them for is not allergic to nuts. My favorite variation I have ever tried is using a cup of chocolate chips and a cup of peanut butter chips.Does anyone have any ideas for what else you could put inif you don’t have any chocolate chips lying around the house?
To bake, you will want to scoop out about a tablespoon of dough at a time. A standard cookie sheet will hold 12 cookies as shown in the picture. Once your oven is heated to 350°F you will want to bake the cookies for 8-10 minutes or until they start to look golden around the edges. Once you take them out of the oven, remove from the pan onto a wire cooling rack to cool. This recipe makes about 3 dozen cookies, depending on how much of the dough you eat in the process.
Just a few questions for review of the different things we have talked about today.(last question leads up to the final slide of ways I thought of to enjoy these cookies)(I wanted that box there but couldn’t get rid of the add text since its actually a textbox, when it in presentation mode it does not show as a textbox)
My favorite way to enjoy these cookies is fresh out of the oven when they are still ooey and gooey with a glass of ice cold milk. They are also really good with a bowl of vanilla ice cream or you could try two cookies with a scoop of ice cream between them. My best friend enjoys them with a dollop of peanut butter on top or sandwiched between two cookies.Enjoy these cookies whatever way you enjoy most.Hopefully now you all can go home and bake some cookies for your family. I have a printout for all of you with the recipe and step by step instructions. (If this were a real presentation I would want to have the recipe for the audience to take home so they can make them at home)
