A key piece of technology which was used particularly during the research stage of the project was
surveymonkey.com. Having used the site in a previous project, I was aware how to create a survey and
share it with friends, however having used the website this time around, I recognised how it can be
used to not only gather the results but to collect them into graphs and charts for display. We used
surveymonkey to make an online survey for our primary audience research. I found that creating the
survey online was a much more simple and easier way of structuring the questions. As the website
only allows you to choose 10 questions, I found that this was somehow an advantage when we began
to design our survey. I feel that this was beneficial as we became more critical of which questions we
chose and how we would get the best results from our chosen questions. It also meant that we were
adding more detail into the answers in order to make sure
that we received all of this information necessary to appeal to
our audience. I found that the site was set out very clearly
meaning that it wasn’t difficult to use. As well as this, I felt
that a key feature to the site was the share option after
creating the survey. This connected the website to all of our
social network accounts such as Facebook and Twitter
meaning that we were able to share our survey immediately.
Another useful aspect of the site was how after the survey
had been completed we were able to view the gathered
results as collated pie charts and graphs. This made it very
simple when displaying our information and analysing the
results.

I feel that a key program that I personally used many times during
the project was Microsoft Powerpoint. One of the key times that I
used this program was throughout the research aspect of the
project. After carrying out our audience research, I needed to collate
the results and chose to display them using graphs. I chose to do
this using Powerpoint as I was able to show all of the graphs in one
presentation. I found it very simple to create the graphs using the
‘chart’ bar at the top of the program. During this use of the
technology I didn’t learn anything new as I have used the program
many times before. However, after creating the presentation, I
struggled to post it onto my blog. I was then shown the website
‘Slideshare’ where I was able to share the presentation as it was
and then embed it into my blog. I found this quite easy to do and I
feel that it will be a useful skill for my future work. I am pleased
with how slideshare formats the presentation onto my blog, making
it easy for me to quickly look through the statistic, this is soemthign
that I found useful when I came to analyse the results.
I also used this program during the evaluation stage of the project.
A key aspect of this was importing images onto my presentation to
accompany my text. Having done this many times before, it wasn’t a
new skill learnt, however I was able to use my previous skills of
sharing the presentation using the slideshare site.

One of the key pieces of technology which we used within our project was social media sites. I feel
that without these our audience research, feedback and project development would not have been

sur vey and final products. By doing this, it enabled us to quickly and easily receive a response on
o u r p i e c e s o f w o r k . A f t e r c r e a t i n g o u r s u r v e y u s i n g s u r v e y m o n k e y, w e e a c h s h a r e d t h e l i n k o n o u r
F a c e b o o k w a l l s a n d Tw i t t e r f e e d s . A s w e l l a s t h i s w e w e r e e a c h a b l e t o d i r e c t m e s s a g e p e o p l e o n
t h e s i t e s a s k i n g t h e m t o t a k e p a r t i n t h e s u r v e y. I f e e l t h a t t h i s u s e o f t h e t e c h n o l o g y w a s a s u c c e s s
a s a f t e r j u s t 3 d a y s o f c r e a t i n g t h e s u r v e y, w e r e c e i v e d o v e r 6 0 r e s p o n s e s . A f t e r t h e p r o d u c t i o n o f
our media products, we shared them using many dif ferent social network sites. I chose to share the
m u s i c v i d e o o n Yo u t u b e d u e t o t h e v a r i e t y a n d m a s s a m o u n t o f p e o p l e t h a t w a t c h v i d e o s t h r o u g h
t h e s i t e . A f t e r q u i c k l y u p l o a d i n g t h e v i d e o , w e w e r e a b l e t o u s e Yo u t u b e ’ s t a g g i n g s y s t e m t o g i v e
our video a variety of dif ferent tags, by doing this it meant that the video would be easier to find on
the search engine. As well as this, we were able to embed the video straight onto our media blogs
a n d s h a r e i t i n s t a n t l y w i t h p e o p l e t h r o u g h F a c e b o o k a n d Tw i t t e r. A k e y f e a t u r e o f Yo u t u b e i s b e i n g
able to like and comment on videos. This sight allowed us to receive comments about the success
of our music video and also allowed us to recognise that over 300 people viewed our video within 4
days. I believe that this response to our video is purely down to being able to tag the video and
share it through other sites, making it easier for our audience to access.
Another way in which we used social networking sites was on our magazine adver t. We chose to
i n c o r p o r a t e t h e Tw i t t e r, Yo u t u b e , I n s t a g r a m a n d F a c e b o o k l o g o s o n t h e b o t t o m o f o u r a d v e r t a s w e
f e l t i t w o u l d i n t r i g u e o u r a u d i e n c e . T h r o u g h a d v a n c e s i n t e c h n o l o g y, i t m e a n s t h a t w e a r e a b l e t o
access our favourite ar tists on the go using many dif ferent forms of social network . As our target
a u d i e n c e i s b e t w e e n t h e a g e o f 1 6 - 24 w e f e l t t h a t t h i s c o n s t a n t i n t e r a c t i o n w i t h t h e i r f a v o u r i t e
ar tist would be something that they would appeal them.

I personally used the sof tware Final Cut Pro for a long duration of the
post production stage of the project. I volunteered myself to edit the
music video as I had used the program a few times before. Despite this, I
didn’t know that many features of the sof tware and therefore had to
experiment as I created the video. I felt quite confident in my ability of
cutting two shots together at a basic level, however one of the key
challenges which I had to overcome was the application of ef fects which
we desired in our music video. One of the main effects which I learned
how to use was the blink ef fect. This created the illusion that the
camera/eye is blinking as the shot fades to black at various inter vals
throughout. I chose to use this ef fect on one of our point of view shots as
it enhanced the idea that the shot was from our characters perspective.
Af ter dragging the ef fect onto the desired shot, I was able to see that the
blinking happened too quickly and I wanted it to be a slower process as it
was a fairly long shot. I therefore decided to experiment with the
a p p l i c a t i o n o f t h i s f i l t e r. I d i d t h i s b y s e l e c t i n g t h e c l i p a n d s e l e c t i n g t h e
‘blink’ ef fect that had been applied to the shot. I then had to alter the
duration and length of the blinks by dragging the arrows along the side
bar of the shot. I experimented with dif ferent lengths of blinks and the
distance between them until I felt that we had made it realistic enough. I
am pleased that I learnt how to use this ef fect, as we decided to repeat
this filter on another shot. This time I altered it slightly by applying the
filter alongside a ‘blur’ ef fect. By carrying out this experiment, I
identified that by combining two or more ef fects I was able to alter the
appearance of the shot. I am extremely pleased with how the final video
looked, especially the use of the dif ferent ef fects.
