Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is an ecosystem-based strategy that focuses on long-term prevention of pests through a combination of techniques including biological control, habitat manipulation, and use of resistant varieties. IPM aims to reduce reliance on chemical pesticides, which can impact human health and cause insects to develop resistance. Under IPM, pesticides are used only as a last resort, with preference given to mechanical, biological, and cultural methods of prevention and control. These include traps, introduction of natural predators, and modification of growing conditions.
