2. Rosemary’s baby is an iconic psychological
horror that’s hugely significant in the genre
and in film history.
The film is based on the 1967 novel by Ira
Levin.
‘Rosemary's Baby’ follows a woman and her
husband’s move to a New York apartment.
Her husband joins a cult of Satanists in
hopes to further his acting career by ensuring
his unknowing wife has the Devil’s baby
instead of his.
3. In Rosemary’s baby according to society she
did everything right. She found love got
married wanted to start a family had a baby
but as it turns out she never really knew the
man she married and how deep his ambition
for fame and success was.
4. The film is an example of effective and
impactful Horror because it attacks the fears
and vulnerabilities in society like people
believing they are safe. This same idea is
seen in more modern horror/slasher films
where people’s throats are slit in their own
homes.
5. This film captures some of the main themes
of the genre; the idea that nowhere is safe or
that no one, not even the people you love can
be trusted and its always the one you least
expect. I think we could recreate this
sentiment in our coursework ideas maybe a
friendship goes awry or a violent murder
takes place.
