Noise is unwanted sound. Sound is a
pressure wave, which consists of
alternating periods of compression and
rarefaction. In this project it is used active
noise reduction (ANR).
Problem Statement: most students have
been facing difficulties to concentrate on
their tasks due to noise, some cannot even
have a good rest in noisy environment. As
a result they decreased in productivity and
academic performance due to
unconventional environment conditions
(noise pollution).
Objective: develop a device (Silent Siren)
that cancel/reduce noise in a room.

Ambient sound/ noise is detected by the microphone located at the back of Silent
Siren. Then the microphone sends the waves to a small device which is
programmed to invert the phase of the waves. After that this device sends back the
waves with inverted phase to a speaker connected to the system and to the power
source that will generate a sound with the same frequency and amplitude with the
ambient noise. Finally when both waves intersect they will cancel each other and
the result will be no sound.

This device needs external power supply
Now it is possible to use ANR in one
room.
Student can study, concentrate and sleep
comfortable without using headphones.
The device can reduce the room noisy by
95%.
The ear of humans can take noise bellow
70 decibels (dB) without damage. This
product is calibrated to generate noise
inside the range without any risk of ear
damage.

Develop a device that reduce the noise by
using ANR technology.
Future work
Implement a system that can select the
wanted sound and cancel completely the
unwanted sound.

Active noise cancellation is used today in
headphones in order to isolate a person
from noise and passive noise control is
used to isolate a room, by equipping the
room walls with plates that absorbs
vibration.
The principle used in Silent Siren is the
same as used in headphones, however here
it is used in larger scale, being possible to
isolate an entire room.
This product is designed specially for
students (UTP), who have been suffering
with noise pollution. The product is
affordable to all students.

6- ADVANTAGES/ DISADVANTAGES
Cheaper way of canceling noise in an
entire room.
No need of using headphones.
It is applied for low frequency noise.
