Made In Michigan Michigan Clean Water Action
I  learned  
❖ fundraising for non-profit organization
❖ event planning
❖ silent auction planning, execution & evaluation
❖ nonprofit organization-donor relationship
managing
Benefits  to  the  organization  
Sponsors make every effort of protecting our
environment, health, economic well-being and
community quality of life possible and successful. The
award celebration is not only a great fundraising
opportunity, but also a way for Clean Water Action to
connect with sponsors and show our appreciation to
their support. The event also raise the organization’s
profile and build on future relationships.
My  input  
❖ weekly brainstorming sessions
with our GLAC team, producing
ideas and plans from event theme
#MadeInMichigan to the details of
food, drinks, even fine Michigan
oak awards
❖ fundraising for the event & collecting donations from
businesses across Michigan
❖ research US environmental regulation + legislation to fully
take advantage of the car display at R.E. Olds
Transportation Museum and provide our guests with fun
environmental facts
❖ create silent auction packages & catalog
❖ set up slideshow to say “Thank You” to all of our sponsors
& donors
❖ attend to the silent auction table at the event and work with
our entire Michigan staff to deliver a great event
PR Theories & Reflections
❖ Non-profit fundraising relationship management
(Waters, 2009): reciprocity, reporting, responsibility &
relationship nurturing trust
❖ Health Belief Model (Carpenter, 2010): perceived
benefits, obstacles and efficacy in environmentally
healthy behavior
❖ live auction instead of silent auction for higher bids
❖ take full advantage of social media to promote the
event
❖ the fundraising goal of $20,000 from 48 event sponsors
❖ $4,528 worth of donation from 64 Michigan based businesses
❖ 30 silent auction packages featuring fun activities all through out Michigan
❖ welcomed approximately 150 guests with all Michigan-made food & drinks
❖ increased media attention from LSJ and interview of our state director on Eclectablog
❖ #1 Mascot Sparty rooting for Clean Water Action at the event!

GLAC honors individuals and organizations
that contribute to the sustainability of the great
lakes and clean energy. This year’s theme,
#MadeInMichgan, celebrates our great state
and the people who fight for its beauty and
legacy. On April 8th, we were gathered at R.E.
Olds Transportation Museum with our award
recipients Senator Carl Levin, Rich Vander
Veen, Rashida Tlaib, Chris Savage & Short’s
Brewing Co. for a great evening.
