Evaluation q 4.
1. How did you use new media
technologies in the construction
and research, planning and
evaluation stages?
2. Camcorder And Tripod
The camcorder was the most essential tool as without the camcorder we
would have not been able to shoot our footage to the standard required
with variety of shots that were efficient for the music video. High
resolution cameras were also required as the footage needed to be as
professional and up to standard as possible. The camcorder was also used
to record our vox pox for our audience feedback at the beginning.
The tripod was also important in assisting the camcorder and allowing us
take still footage, therefore not having any shaky and unprofessional shots
that could ruin our footage. With the tripod we were also able to take a
variety of shots from different angles, the adjustments of the tripod made
this easily possible
3. Camera
The camera was another essential tool
we used to take still images of our
main artist. With these images we
could then discuss as a group weather
we thought the images fit the
conventional requirement needed for
our music video. We also used the
images taken for our ancillary tasks
which were of huge importance for us
as we needed images of our main artist
to be on our ancillary tasks.
The camera also allowed us to easily
use different shots and angels to
portray our artist in certain ways;
weather this was through close-ups to
show facial expressions or long shots
to show the scenery. This was very
important as the angel or shot of an
image can give away a lot about an
artist.
4. Google
Search engines such as google were a major resource that I had used
throughout to stream and research about other existing music videos in order
to plan my music video. I also used google when working on my planning and
research work, for example, researching about my artist and other existing
artists to find out as much information as I could to help me work to the best of
my ability. I was also able to do further research into my genre (soul/jazz) in
order to fully understand the codes and conventions of the genre.
5. Music Streaming Site - YouTube
YouTube allowed me to roam through the site looking at various music videos
where I was able to find videos that were of great influence to our own music
video.
I also used YouTube for my research and planning work where I analyzed
music videos in order to see the generic codes and conventions of different
music videos, allowing me to understand what was needed when planning my
own music video.
Another reason I found YouTube useful was that it allowed me to easily
upload videos that I needed to then upload onto my blogger, for example, my
vox pox and my final music video. Without YouTube I would have found it
difficult to upload my videos onto blogger.
6. Blogger
Blogger is a blogging website we used to present our work. It allowed me to
upload my work as I was going along which made it much easier and much
more efficient as I could easily recognise where I left of and what I need to do
next. Through using blogger I was able to upload videos, images, audio clips,
presentations and text, therefore, allowing me to use a variety of techniques in
order to present my work to the best of my ability. A huge upside to using
blogger was that your work could not be lost or damaged as it was all uploaded
digitally and safely stored.
7. SlideShare
Slideshare allowed me to transfer powerpoints I had made using Microsoft
PowerPoint onto the internet, therefore, allowing me to render it onto my
blog.
Through the use of slide share I was able to present my powerpoints as
slideshows, allowing me to present my work professionally and to the best of
my standards, making it easy to understand. Without SlideShare we would
not have been able to present our research and the development of our work,
explaining what we did at each stage and analysing it.
8. Hotmail
Hotmail was important to
the group as it allowed us
to communicate when we
were not together. We
could easily share our
ideas and views to each
other and send each other
work ensuring everyone is
up to date. This way we
were able to ensure that
all our work was
consistent. Without
hotmail it would have
been difficult for us to
contact each other and
send work.
9. USB
The USB stick was a tool I was already familiar with. It was useful in that it
allowed me to store my work which I later wanted to work on and improve.
It also allowed me to save images we had taken of our main artist in order
to easily flick through them. The use of the USB also made it easy to
transfer work from my USB to another person in my group, for example,
the images, design and research. It also allowed us to store the song we
decided to use ‘Floating Around’ so that we could easily open and play it
any time we need it in order to be able to make plans for the video. We were
also able to send the song to our artist in order for her to understand the
composition of the lyrics and to be able to learn the lyrics of by heart in
order for her to lip sync to it expertly. We were also able to then transfer it
onto Adobe Premier Pro where we had a track of the song playing so that
we could start adding our footage to it.
10. Adobe Premier Pro
Adobe Premier Pro was crucial in the construction of our music video. With the
use of this software, we were able to produce both our vox pox and our final
music video by editing all the footage we had collected to produce a successful
video. We were able to add many different affects to our video, allowing it to
meet the generic codes and conventions, and allowing it to flow, making it look
professional and to a high standard.
11. Capturing The Footage
This was the first step we had to do
when using Adobe Premier Pro in
order to start working on the
footage. We did this by connecting
the camcorder we had used for
filming to the computer and then
importing it onto the software. We
then played the footage from the
beginning, and started recording it
on the program. By doing this we
were then allowed to save the
footage and easily open it up
whenever we wanted to work on it.
12. Chroma Key
The Chroma Key allowed us to change the background of the footage we
had taken with the green screen, using an image that better suited our
song, making it look more professional. Without the Chroma Key we
would have found t difficult to use the shots of the green screen as it
would have not looked professional and would not flow with the rest of
the video.
13. Razor Tool
With the Razor Tool we were able to
select the desired footage we wanted
to use, we did this by cropping the
extra footage we did not need and
deleting them using the Razor Tool.
Any extra footage that we did not need
may have been mistakes we had made
when shooting the footage, therefore,
causing us to retake a footage.
The Razor Tool also benefited us when
we were not completely happy with a
full take of a scene, it allowed us to
easily chose shots from different takes
and put them together, deleting any
unwanted shots.
The Razor Tool was of great use as it
allowed us to easily put our clips
together, gradually creating our music
video.
14. Brightness And Contrast
When shooting our scenes we
experienced weather problems,
the brightness of certain scenes
were too dark to be able to view
easily as it got dark quickly when
we were shooting our scenes, we
also could not shoot the scene
again. This was a major problem
at first as the footage was a little
too dark, however, when
adjusting the brightness &
contrast of the footage, we were
able to make the scenes a little
brighter, and easier to see.
15. Title Sequences
This tool allowed us to add typography to our video which seemed
necessary as when working on my research and planning I had
noticed that most artist do so to their music videos. Through this we
were able to present the video and the artist in a more professional
way . We used the text at the beginning of the video adding the
name of the song and the name of the band.
16. Transitional Effects
Transitional Effects were important as
they brought the video together and
made it flow. Most of the transitional
effects were unnecessary for our video as
they were not conventional and
appropriate for our genre, we thought
most of them were a little too much as
our genre is one that uses only a few
effects, those being simple and not easily
visible when they are being used.
We therefore decided to stick to only two
Transitional Effects, those being, ‘dip to
black’ and ‘cross dissolve’. We thought
these would be suitable for our genre
and our song as it is of a slow song and
therefore should have simple effects.
However, we did use one other
Transitional Effect, the swipe. We did
this as we wanted to do something a
little different.
Without the Transitional Effects it would
17. Photoshop
Photoshop was of important use for our ancillary tasks in creating the
magazine advert, front & back of the CD cover and the inlay cards.
Using Photoshop, we were able to add images we had taken of our artist and
transform them into designs to promote our artist.
Photoshop had many different tools which allowed us to do this successfully.
18. Cropping
We used the Magnetic Lasso
Tool to crop out certain parts
of an image we wanted to use.
This was an important tool as
there were some images that
we did not want to use as a
whole, allowing us to select the
image we needed and delete
the rest. We also used the
magnetic lasso tool to select a
part of an image we wanted to
add an affect to weather this
was the brightness or making it
black and white.
19. Brightness And Contrast
Using the brightness and contrast we were able to adjust an image to an
appropriate level that suited best, weather this was making an image
darker or brighter and more vivid. Because our song was of a sad song we
wanted to change the colours to make them a little less vivid and a little
more dim to relate to the song.
20. Black And White
We used the black & white tool to turn some of our images into
black & white. We decided to use this affect as it signifies our genre
of a sad soul/jazz song.
We also decided to use this affect for part of our ancillary tasks as
we had decided to make half the music video in black and white,
therefore, linking the products together.
We left certain features in our ancillary tasks in colour, we did this
as certain images had symbolisms.
