Work experience
Credit Suisse: C++ consultant, Market Risk Jun 15 – Dec 15 (Contract)
As part of a contract assignment, I joined the Market Risk reporting team at Credit
Suisse. Work involved liaising with business analysts, project manager, QA team and
other developers (both within the team and with external teams) to implement
requirements as provided by the market risk team. New requirements were
implemented in C++ (Linux), unit-tested (adding new tests) and then deployed to
UAT environment for testing. Post deployment I was asked to assist with
investigating test results and resolve issues. Some of the requirements were
implemented to very tight deadlines and at times also required managing users’
expectations.
Aug 14-May 15 (time off / traveling)
In August 2014, I decided to take some time off for travelling, which is another
thing I am passionate about. I managed to visit a number of cities/countries,
some of which I had visited before (in Europe and in North America) and others
new (Mexico, Australia and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil).
BNP Paribas: C++ programmer Oct 08 – Aug 14 (Contract)
I have been contracting at BNPP on a number of C++ contracts since Oct 08 on a
number of projects.
Oct 08-Nov 10: FI derivatives trading (Bonds, Futures)
For the first couple of years I was a member of team of C++ developers (and
BAs) working on an in-house, FI trading platform used by the bank’s traders,
operations and risk teams to capture and manage Bonds, Future and Repo trades
and positions. Work varied from implementing new functionalities, refactoring and
improving existing code, investigating production issues as requested by support
teams (offering 3rd line support) and bug fixes. In addition, in preparation for
major releases (bi-annual), developers liaised with the QA team and asked to
assist with manual regression tests.
All code, both client and server side is written in C++ using Visual Studio.
After graduating from a postgraduate degree (Msc Financial Engineering), I
decided to take a few months off for traveling. I considered a potential career
change (relocation), however at the end decided to stay in the UK
May 11-Nov 11: ecommerce IT
I returned to BNPP, this time joining a new, proof of concept project, within
ecommerce IT, designed to create a single trader platform for Sales and Trading
users. The aim was to allow FO users the ability to capture multi-asset products
(managed by different trading platforms) in one place, removing the need to book
different products in multiple applications. While this new project is mainly
.Net/C#, existing trading applications (such as the one I had previously worked
on) were C++ projects, requiring an interface between the different languages.
Interfaces were created to communicate between the C# layer and the
downstream to the trading application(s) written in C++. This was achieved using
an internal communication framework (based on Google protocol buffers).
Nov 11-Sep 12: eFX Market Access
In Nov 2011 I was offered to work within eFX to enhance and introduce new
market adaptors to be used for the submission of FX orders and processing of
trade executions/confirmations. This required writing services to connect to a
number of electronic platforms (exchanges and brokerages) using FIX. All
services were written in C++, running on Linux servers.
Sep 12-Aug 14: FI derivatives trades (IR derivatives)
An opportunity arose for me to return to my first project within BNPP, however
this time covering different financial products. The project had grown to include
development teams abroad, so work also included helping to mentor and code
review team members’ work.
CIBC World Markets: Developer Sep 07 – May 08 (Perm)
I joined the Credit Derivatives development team to work on an in-house trading
application for Credit Derivatives. Work involved implementing requirements for
the analytic (pricing) library used in the pricing of correlation trades (e.g. CDOs,
Credit indices). These were provided by the analytics team in London.
 Programming using .Net/C# in Windows (XP) environment.
 Work with SQL server / stored procedures
 Exposure to Correlation Credit Derivatives market.
As a result of the Credit crisis of 2007-08 and the business’ decision to cease the
trading of the above financial instruments, my position (alongside 4 other
developers) was made redundant.
Barclays Capital: C++/Java Developer Jul 05 – Jul 07 (Perm)
Joined a team within FI Sales and Research group, working on the pricing and
calculation engine for both Bonds and IRS for relative value (RV) comparison. My
main responsibility was to work on the IRS side. Overnight calculation results
were made available via a Java swing UI known as Relative Value Interactive
(RVI), used both internally and by external clients.
Initially hired as a C++ (server side) developer, I quickly became involved in
client side requirements (Java). Work involved designing and extending the UI’s
reports to include new parameters.
 Server side C++ programming for Bonds & IRS pricing and risk
calculation, utilizing analytic libraries written by the Quant team.
 Extend my knowledge of Java development to work on the Client side UI.
 Ensure reports are accurately produced each morning (support)
CIBC World Markets: C++/Java programmer Jan 01- Apr 05 (Perm)
 Jan 01 – July 04 C++/MFC programmer working for the IR / FX desks (Perm)
Developing and supporting a trading application used by multiple business
areas (Futures, IRS and FX Spot/Outright and Swaps). Trade capture was
supported by a number of server applications responsible for positional
updates, downstream feeds and risk reporting.
 Implemented business requirements for the trading application.
 Added a new server application for Delta (dv01) reporting.
 Requirement gathering from different business areas and users
 Support users globally (London, Toronto and Asia)
 Jul 04-Apr 05 Java developer, Credit derivatives
I joined a new project within the Credit derivatives desk to extend and
customize a 3rd party (Java) trading and risk reporting application, to meet
CIBC business users’ requirements.
 Cross train to Java from C++.
 Quickly learn a new business area
 Working as part of a large team of developers (CIBC and vendor’s)
Lansys+NPI (Israel): Tester and Developer (Telecoms) Sep 97- Dec 00
During my studies, I worked part time as a member of the QA team and later
moved to the development team testing, designing and implementing a call
centre application for mid sized organisations.
 Developer Jun 99 – Feb 00 (part time) , Feb 00 – Dec 00 (full time):
Implemented server side components in C++ using ATL (COM/DCOM) to
manage incoming calls, play audio files, and capture users’ options.
 Tester (part time): Sep 97 – June 99: testing and reporting any problems
back to the development team. In addition, I also assisted in the writing of
a test manual for the software for future reference.
Education
2007-2010 Msc Financial Engineerin, Birkbeck College, University of London
Dissertation topic: “Variance Reduction Methods in Monte Carlo simulation –
applied to European style Currency (FX) Options”
2003-2007 Bsc Maths and Statistics, Birkbeck College, University of London
1997-2000 BA Computer Science, Academic college of Tel Aviv, Israel
Studied for a computer science degree, however due to personal/family reasons
was not able to complete my degree.
1991-1994 Yahud High School, Israel
While GCSE/A level system is different in Israel than the one used in the UK, my
major subjects were English, Mathematics and Chemistry.
Israeli defence forces / Military service: Aug 94 – Aug 97
I served in the Israeli army for 3 years, after finishing my high school and prior to
starting my college degree.
