Director’s Corner
Xavier Foundation
The Xavier Foundation is excited
to welcome XHS alumna, Elizabeth
(Hoffmann) Wright X10 as its new Donor Relations & Appeal
Coordinator! Wright joins the Foundation team after four
years at Ruffalo Noel Levitz. While at Ruffalo Noel Levitz,
Elizabeth served as a project manager in the fundraising
management division. Elizabeth brings knowledge of
educational based fundraising, strategy and project
management to the team.
After graduating from Xavier, she attended Coe College
where she graduated her BA in business administration
and public relations with a minor in economics in May 2014.
During her time at Coe, Elizabeth was also a four-year
member of the varsity women’s tennis team and made three
appearances at the NCAA tournament. Elizabeth and her
husband, Tyler (X11), are members of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton
and reside in Hiawatha.
In her new role, Elizabeth’s primary responsibilities will be the
day-to-day management for the Foundation’s annual appeals
as well as constituent research and database management.
Welcome back to Xavier, Elizabeth! Please send Elizabeth a
note of welcome at ewright@xavierfoundation.org!
Welcome Our New
Donor Relations &
Appeal Coordinator,
Elizabeth Wright X10!
We wish the Foundation’s Annual Fund
Director, Lynn Jump, a fond farewell as
she sets sail for retirement! Lynn has
served the Foundation since 2000 when
she was the Development Assistant
under then-Executive Director, Anne Cunningham, and was
later promoted to the Fund Director position in 2006 under
Jody Ruff Pellerin. Under Lynn’s purview, she has helped grow
the Parish and Business Appeals in double digit increases and
over her tenure a combined nearly $7 million dollars for the
appeals she’s worked on. Lynn and her husband, Mike, are
relocating to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where they will be
near their daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter. Thank
you for making a difference, Lynn, and may God bless you
and your family!
Happy Retirement,
Lynn Jump!

This edition of the Common
Thread brings us to the end of
an era, while simultaneously
launching us into a new one! At
the end of May we bid farewell
to our Annual Fund Director,
Lynn Jump, retiring after 18
years serving Xavier Foundation;
and just a few weeks later we
welcomed Xavier 2010 graduate,
Elizabeth (Hoffmann) Wright, as our Donor Relations and
Appeal Coordinator. Life is full of these juxtapositions and we
hope to honor each of these team members below as we say
“goodbye” with gratitude, and “hello” with excitement!
You’ll find that this is a page-turner of an issue; packed full of
updates, news and initiatives that donors and alumni won’t
want to miss. We’re eagerly gearing up for a landmark year with
new President Tom Keating taking the helm July 1, selecting
three teacher honorariums (one from each LaSalle, Regis, and
Xavier) by alumni submissions received by end of June, hosting
a Donor Reception on August 7th with Archbishop Jackels,
and launching our Parish Appeal with the theme of “Xavier
Saints: Celebrating 20 Years of God’s Grace” this September.
Please pray for us as we move through this time of transition.
Your questions are welcome along the way - our goal is to have
clear and transparent communication in all we do. We value
your support and thank you for your commitment to Catholic
education!
Kindly,
Mary Harken

2018 Alumni
Appeal Update
This year’s LaSalle-Regis-Xavier Alumni Appeal asked alumni
to share their generosity and their stories of a favorite high
school teacher/coach/administrator who made a lasting
impact on them.
The LaSalle-Regis-Xavier Alumni Board will soon select three
of the most powerful and poignant reflections of a high
school teacher’s impact (one teacher reflection from LaSalle,
Regis and Xavier will be selected). The three teachers who
are selected will have $1,000 donated to the department in
which they served, so that their impact can continue to be felt
directly by our current high school students.
Thank you to all our Lancers, Royals and Saints who helped
support this effort by contributing a gift and/or a story! Show
your support at XavierFoundation.org/Teachers.
Thank you to our donors and volunteers for connecting our
community to a bright future. Your gift of time and treasure
demonstrates your commitment to give Xavier students a
quality faith-based education that will lead them to be future
leaders in our communities. Under the leadership of Dave
Wright, owner operator of Dave Wright Nissan and Subaru
Dealership, and Brad Joens, Vice President Commercial
Banking, Hills Bank & Trust Co., Xavier volunteers raised more
than $136,000 for Xavier High School. The Xavier community
is forever grateful for your support.
If you would like your business listed with our supporting
businesses, send your gift to the Xavier Foundation,
P.O. Box 10956, Cedar Rapids, IA 52410-0956. Thank you!

Xavier Foundation4
On May 20, 2018, Xavier High School Board of Education president,
Lorie Hines, presented diplomas to the graduating seniors from the Xavier
High School Class of 2018. This is the school’s 20th graduating class. The
invocation was offered by Xavier High School Pastoral Coordinator, Rev. Philip
Thompson, of St. Pius X Parish while the benediction was offered by Rev.
Dustin Vu of St. John XXIII Parish. Joining for the ceremony was Archbishop
Michael Jackels.
Xavier principal, Tom Keating, addressed Xavier graduates for the final time as
principal before assuming his duties as president next year ...
“There is still much to be done,” said Keating. “Remember, today is called
a ‘commencement’ for a reason. It is a beginning. It is appropriate on this
Pentecost Sunday to remind you that as Jesus sent the Holy Spirit unto the
Apostles and then sent them into the world to share the Word, we send you
into the world to share His Good News. It’s time for you to take your candle and
go light your world. And with God in your heart, your light will shine forever.
May He bless you and watch over you as you leave Xavier High School.”
Student body president, Sophia Cataldo (X18), delivered the student address. John Pape (X18) was the recipient of the “Outstanding
Academic Achievement” award. The four-year combined total of scholarships offered to the Xavier High School Class of 2018 was more
than $14 million. Congratulations, Saints!

Each spring, we post our annual Legacy Board which celebrates our
graduating seniors who are from families that have been a part of LaSalle,
Regis and Xavier for multiple generations. The display demonstrates the
family commitment to Catholic education and the rich history from which
Xavier High School was developed. This year’s board features alumni
from LaSalle, Regis, Xavier, St. Wenceslaus, St. Patrick, and Immaculate
Conception. The display is posted online and outside of the guidance
office at Xavier High School.

On April 20th, Xavier welcomed over 350 grandparents for the
school’s annual Grandparents Day Mass! To help commemorate
the day, students wrote the names of their grandparents on
crosses (blue for the ones who joined us, gray for the ones who
could not be with us, and white for the ones who have entered
eternal life). The crosses were then placed on trees around
the altar, symbolizing the deep roots of faith and love that our
grandparents represent! Prior to mass, grandparents were
treated to a continental breakfast hosted by Xavier Parents for
Xcellence (XPX). Mass was celebrated by Fr. Ken Glaser of St.
Ludmila parish with a formal welcome from XHS principal, Tom
Keating, and Foundation Development Director, Mary Harken.

On May 2, pastors from several of our supporting parishes
attended a Pastor Appreciation Dinner hosted by the Xavier
Foundation. This dinner is just a small token of our great
appreciation for our pastors and all they do to support Xavier, its
students and its mission. We also say “congratulations” to
Fr. Phil Thompson, St. Pius X pastor/XHS Pastoral
Coordinator/Foundation Board Member, on recently
celebrating his 40th anniversary of his ordination!
Thank You, Pastors!

members of those who have
answered God’s call to serve a
religious vocation joined us for our
Vocations Mass! Fr. Aaron Junge
(X08) concelebrated the mass with
Fr. Dustin Vu. In his homily, Fr.
Junge addressed being successful
in the eyes of the world vs. being
joyful (and successful) in the eyes
of God -- and how serving a voca-
tion (in whatever form) is a life filled
with joy. The mass was followed by
a short reception in the LMC.
