  • I cannot comment on markets outside the U.S., although I must say I agree heavily with Renie. As a recruiter in a male dominated market - in constant communication with hiring executives - they care about hiring the best. This is 2014 - and they are looking for top level talent - that has the strongest ability to contribute and make a positive impact on their team- regardless of gender.
The biggest hurdle I see for women- is often themselves and their perception of how they think the hiring manager is viewing them.
If you walk into something with a chip on your shoulder - that comes through - even if it is at a subconscious level. If you have a negative expectation from the start- that creates a ripple effect. We all have equal opportunity, and hiring executives care about results.
If you are a strong culture fit with the organization, share their values, and have a demonstrated track record of successful results that match their goals and targets - and approach interviewing - by aligning how your successful experience will contribute and positively impact their team - and leave gender out of it- you will likely have much more positive experiences and opportunities in front of you.

  • she had me until the end... woman should get over it...I was just about to share this too. in the Netherlands, woman are poorly underrepresented at senior and board levels. we can't get over it here. In many other countries, they can't get over it either. The world, the work world, is global even if you just work in the States. We can not forget that we are connected. And if you start getting over it in the US, this will reflect in other countries. Don't get over it just yet, please.
