1. Entry 1:
On the first two days of my FMP (Final Major Project), I completed my
‘InitialThoughts’ PowerPoint, which lists what I’m going to do for my
FMP and why I’m doing it, my strengths and weaknesses in regards to
work, a mood board showing off my inspirationsand influences, the
analysisof the mood board, and me talkingabout probably my biggest
influence for this FMP, which is RWBY, a show created by Monty Oum,
the person who my hypotheticaldocufilm will be about.
I believe my mood board, though good, could have had more things
added to it, as all the images that are on said mood board are either
film posters or things related to Rooster Teeth (the production
company that Monty was afflicted with when he made RWBY). If I had
added more images into the mood board, then it’s possible that I
could’ve made my project more diverse in the topics that it handled
(more things than just Monty Oum himself) than what I have planned
currently.
Entry 2:
At the end of my first week on my FMP, I completed my ‘proposal’
document, a document which went through what I was thinkingof
doing for my FMP, what the idea version of my project would look like,
several sources that I could use to help me in my work (as I’m trying to
make a trailer for a docufilm, and some posters for said docufilm), and
a schedule that I can hopefullyabide by as I complete my work.
I believe that my proposal document was as good as I could make it, as
I had referenced all my potentialsources, gone into great detail about
2. why I wanted to do what I chose to do for my FMP, and talked about
ideasthat I alreadyhad in mind for things that I would create during
the productionprocess.
Entry 3:
At the end of my second week of my FMP, I had begun work on my
second PowerPoint that I was required to do, that being a PP regarding
research into things that I will take inspirationfrom during production
of my FMP. I looked into four existing products (those products being
the movies Bohemian Rhapsody,The Dark Knight and Sausage Party,
and the web series RWBY). As well as this, I did some research into film
posters and trailers, those being the posters for Harry Potter and the
Deathly HallowsPart 2, the first trailer for Inception, and the ‘Everyone
is Here’ Trailer for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
I think I did this part of my FMP work went very well. My research was
as detailedas I could make it, I was passionate about the things I
detailedthe research of in my PowerPoint, and the videosI linkedas
‘practical research’ are very detailedwhen it comes to the things that
3. they talk about (like movie trailers, how to create a film poster, or
general Photoshop tips and tricks).
Entry 4:
Throughout the third week of my FMP, I tweaked some of the research
that I had done into the existing products and film posters/trailers, and
I also did some practical research into trailers and tips on how to make
them as good as they can be, along with how to create a good movie
poster in Adobe Photoshop (or Paint.Net, since that is a free version of
Photoshop with slightly less features than the mainstream program).
This research-tweaking was done well, in my opinion. The practical
research I did was also done well, in my opinion.I also did some
practise by creating drafts and mock-ups of what my movie poster
would look like in Paint.Net.
Entry 5:
After the Easter break, I began the third PowerPoint of my FMP, which
goes over the pre-production aspect of the FMP. I began listing the
4. resources, contingency plansand the health-and-safety issues that
productionwould entail, along with beginningan idea of what my
productionschedule would look like.
Personally, I believethat the productionschedule I created for myself
was very good. It was simple and concise, and I plan to follow this
schedule to the best of my ability.
Entry 6:
I finished the third PowerPoint of my FMP, and wrote the script for my
trailer-narration.I also wrote down a rough progression of how the
scenes in the trailer would (visually) play out, and as well as finishing
the productionschedule.
I don’t feel like I got a lot done during this week, because I felt like I
had hit a bit of a creative block. As well as this, I was still trying to get
back into the habit of waking up early enough to get into college, which
probablymade me a lot more tired than I usually was.
Entry 7:
5. At the start of the first week of production,I downloadedthe two
songs that I plan to use in my docufilm trailer. These two songs are
‘This Will Be the Day’ from RWBY Volume 1, and the slower, acoustic
remix of ‘This Will Be the Day’, which was used in RWBY Volume 2. I
plan to use the acoustic remix of This Will Be the Day in the first part of
the trailer, and the originalversion of ThisWill Be the Day in the
second half.
However, if I can get my handson the song in time, I will use the song
‘Indomitable’,a song used in RWBY Volume 6, in the trailer. I think this
song would work very well because the song is inspired by a famous
quote from Monty himself, and the title of the song is the same as the
title of the hypothetical-docufilmthat I plannedto create.
Entry 8:
I recorded the first part of my docufilm trailer (the part that involves
me findingthe ‘Red Trailer’ on YouTubefrom an AVGN video and being
floored by how good it is), and did a portion of the recording of my
narration of said docufilm trailer, which I feel went pretty well. As well
as this, I downloadedsome more videos (RWBY’s ‘Red Trailer’ and a
compilationof clipsof Monty Oum himself)
Going forward, I planto finish the recording of my docufilm trailer’s
narration, and to edit the entire docufilm trailer (includingthe video I
recorded on my phone, the narration I recorded and the video I
downloaded)together using the editing software that I own on my PC.
6. Entry 9:
Yesterday, I recorded another couple of takes of my docufilm trailer’s
narration, and also began cutting together the footage that I had
gathered for said docufilm trailer. I think the editing process is going
very well so far, in my opinion. As well as this, I know that there is quite
a bit more video editing to be done.
Going forward, I planto possibly record another take of my docufilm
trailer’s narration, which can (potentially)be inserted into my editing
program as well. I can do this easily in a day or two, which leaves two
weeks for me to put together one (potentiallytwo) posters for my
hypotheticalmovie.
Entry 10:
https://youtu.be/HsnYI9O5D8s
Last weekend, I finishedall the editing work on my docufilm’s trailer,
and uploadedit to YouTube(link provided). In the future I plan to begin
work on my docufilm posters, of which, in a perfect world, I would
make two (however, due to my work ethic, I can only see myself
making one in the three weeks I have left).
7. I believe that the finished product of my docufilm trailer is very good,
and it reflects what kind of docufilm I would make, if I had the time,
money and resources to do so. The pictures, video, music and
narration, all in conjunctionwith each other, work very well for me,
and if I had the chance to remake the trailer from scratch, I would
probablydo everything I did the same as I did the first time around.
Entry 11:
After a week of work after finishing my docufilm trailer, I finished my
first poster for my hypotheticaldocufilm,‘Indomitable’.The poster
makes a lot of references to Monty’s most famous series, RWBY, with
the image of Ruby Rose, the main character of RWBY, seen in the
poster, most of the text either being red, white, black or yellow
(referring to the main colours of the four main characters of the
series), and the broken moon in the background (a staple of RWBY’s
world).
As a fan of RWBY, I had a lot of fun making this poster and referencing
the show as much as I could. I believe I did a good job as far as creating
the poster went, and I think I struck a good balance between
referencing RWBY in the poster and actuallymaking the poster
informative as to what the movie is about, that being Monty.
8. Entry 12:
After coming back from my half-term holiday,I created the first draft of
my second docufilm poster. Like the first one, the poster features
references to Monty Oum’s most famous work (RWBY), such as the
broken moon on a night sky, the font that all the text on the poster is
on (which is the font that the RWBY logo uses), and the images of Ruby
Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna and YangXiao Long inside
Monty’s head (inspired by the poster for the Russel Crowe movie “The
Next Three Days”, which features an image inside the main character’s
head on the poster).
I think that this draft is a good first start for something that I made in
one day, but I could still improve it in some ways, with the biggest
thing being the transparency of a part of Monty’s head, which looks
very jarring and unprofessional compared to the rest of the poster,
which I believe I did a good job on. In future classes, I planto work on
that large issue which, I believe, holds the poster back from being a
great poster like the finished product of my first poster is.
9. Entry 13:
I finished my second (and final) draft of my poster, and uploadedit to
my blog. A couple of changes I made to the poster was that I changed
the colours of most of the title text (as a reference to the main colours
of the four main characters of RWBY: Red, White, Black and Yellow),
and I made the colour transitionbetween Monty’s bleachedhairand
the dark background a lot more gradual than it was in the first draft.
I’m happierwith this work than I was with my first draft.
