Cuba is the largest island in the Caribbean and boasts beautiful landscapes, a brilliantly preserved history, and a diverse, lively culture.
Discovered in 1492 by Chrisopher Columbus, he fell in love with the island and its setting; and it’s not hard to see why. Even today, Cuba is still rife with lush vegetation, tropical rain forests, lengthy rivers, and stunning beaches.

  1. 1. WHAT’S THIS ALL ABOUT? Cuba is the largest island in the Caribbean and boasts beautiful landscapes, a brilliantly preserved history, and a diverse, lively culture. Discovered in 1492 by Chrisopher Columbus, he fell in love with the island and its setting; and it’s not hard to see why. Even today, Cuba is still rife with lush vegetation, tropical rainforests, lengthy rivers, and stunning beaches. Havana, Cuba’s capital is full of colonial heritage, with masses of cathedrals, castles and museums, as well as a buzzing nightlife scene. If you’re a fan of scuba diving, look no further! Even Cuba’s waters have their own history – they are home to over 1000 sunken ships, often those carrying treasures. Most of the time, you’ll be too busy looking at the 1000+ species of fish and 60 types of coral – amongst many other fascinating wonders. There are hundreds of scuba sites to choose from, but Jardines de la Reina is said to be the best in the world.
  2. 2. TOP PLACES TO VISIT Havana: Havana is the bustling capital of Cuba, home to a vibrant and extremely recognised culture of music, dance, and artistry. Book salsa lessons and dance on the rooftops overlooking the city, or in the streets under the stars. Santiago de Cuba: A hectic city with a Caribbean spirit, home to the must-see annual carnival in July, and famous music venue Casa de la Trova. For more history, you can visit Museum casa de Diego Velazquez, a mansion that belonged to Spanish conqueror and first governor from Cuba. Pinar del Río: If you’ve had enough of the fervent city life and fancy some escapism, head to the Vinales Valley, a rural scene of flat-topped mountains and a tranquil village community. Varadero: As one of Cuba’s most famous beach resorts, this is the place to be if you want to soak up the sun’s rays and warm your toes in the white sand – it’s also an ideal place to stay, too, with more than 50 hotels across the strip of Peninsula de Hicacos.
  3. 3. WEATHER Cuba’s climate is subtropical; its closeness to the Tropic of Cancer means the climate is usually warm all year round. The island’s average temperature is 25.5ºC, with 330 days of sunshine a year, on average. Cuba’s rainy season is from May to October, with the dry season between November and April. The latter season may be best to visit for almost guaranteed sunshine, but it in the low season, it doesn’t rain all day – and you might see some remarkable storms! It also usually means the flight and hotels will be cheaper. If heading out between June and November, be prepared for the chance of a Hurricane, which is statistically more likely to occur around this time. 4. 4. CULTURE Cuba is hugely diverse in terms of culture, having been built from African, Spanish, French and Asian influences. The country is also renowned for its artistic culture in literature, film, salsa dancing and theatre, having produced major international figures in this area. Cuba’s cultural events attract international celebrities, including the Havana International Ballet Festival, the International Jazz Festival and the Festival of New Latin American Cinema.
  5. 5. IDEAL FOR…? Cuba is ideal for anyone willing to immerse themselves in the country’s vibrant culture and embrace its colonial heritage. If you love music and dance, you can throw yourself into Cuba’s salsa scene, or hit local jazz bars for a piece of the Island’s immense talent. Offering beautiful beaches, bustling cities and a variety of water sports; it has something for everyone to enjoy.
