7. CONTENTS of MAGNA CARTA as regard:
FEUDALISM
No scuttage or aid was to be imposed on knights
or barons unless by the Great Council.
Except: to ransom the king’s body, for the
knighting of an eldest son, for the first marriage
of an eldest daughter.
No widow was to be compelled to marry so long
as she preferred to live without a husband.
Heirs were to have their inheritance on payment
of the ancient relief.
8. JUSTICE
No freeman was to be imprisoned, punished
or outlawed, except by the judgement of his
equals or by the law of the land.
Justice was not to be denied, delayed or sold
9. TRADE
The city of London was to have all its
ancient rights, liberties and customes by
land as by water. And so with all other
towns and boroughs.
One measure, one weight, one standard was
to be used for the whole kingdom.
All goods seized by the king’s Purveyors
were to be paid for at the ordinary market
price.
Merchants were to be allowed to come and
go in and out of the kingdom freely.
