Position Transducers detect the position of
something which means that they are
referenced either to or from some fixed point or
position.
Position Transducers can detect the movement of an
object in a straight line
using Linear Transducers or by its angular movement
using Rotational Transducers.

18. 2. Potentiometer transducers
It is defined as a three terminal variable resistor in which
the resistance is
manually varied to control the flow of electric current.
Potentiometers work by varying the position of a sliding
contact across a
uniform resistance. In a potentiometer, the entire input
voltage is applied across the
whole length of the resistor, and the output voltage is the
voltage drop between the
fixed and sliding contact as shown below. The resistance is
proportional to the position
19. 3-Strain Gauge Transducers
The strain gauge is an example of a passive transducer
that uses electrical resistance variation in wires to sense
the strain produced by a force on the wires.
The gauge is glued onto the device by an adhesive.
When an object shows physical deformation, its
electrical resistance gets change and that change is then
measured by gage.
