The popular idiom “don’t judge a book by its cover” is a metaphor that encourages us not to prejudge the worth of something solely by the nature of its outward appearance. Hoewver, as consumers (and perhaps even more so as designers) we are often drawn to an item due to its ‘cover’. This is especially true of books. in retail settings, book cover gives the reader a glimpse of what is to come (sets the stage), compelling them to pick-up an purchase the book. For this project, I have to choose two of the fifty books from the Recovering the Classics list and design book covers for them. I picked the Frankenstein by Mary Shelley and the Dracular by Bram Stoker. My concept for these books is a minimalism. Simple is the best.
