3. Opening Prayer
Soul of Christ, sanctify me;
Body of Christ, save me;
Blood of Christ, inebriate me;
Water from the side of Christ, wash me;
Passion of Christ, strengthen me;
O good Jesus hear me;
Within your wounds hide me;
separated from you, let me never be;
From the evil one protect me;
At the hour of my death, call me;
And close to you bid me; That with your saints,
I may be praising you forever and ever.
Amen.
7. The Last Supper by Juan de Juanes 1523 – 1579. Museum Museo del Prado, Madrid
IS IT THE SAME THING
HAPPENING HERE? WHO ARE
THOSE? WHERE ARE THEY?
WHAT ARE THEY DOING?
WHEN?
8.
9. “And he took bread, gave thanks and broke
it, and gave it to them, saying, ‘This is my
body given for you; do this is remembrance
of me.’ In the same way, after the supper
he took the cup, saying, ‘This cup is the
new covenant in my blood, which is poured
out for you’.”
Lc 22, 19-20
Now watch
and compare:
10. What happened in the Last Supper happens, exactly the
same, at every mass?
What are the similarities or difference?
Last Supper Eucharist
Jesus had not died yet He’s died and
come back to life
The apostles were there
We are all there
(whole Church)
They ate bread
and wine
We eat Jesus’
body and blood
11. This IS my body…
This IS my blood…
Yeap! Jesus kept his promise:
He comes into bread and wine through the
work of His Holy Spirit by the power of His words
said by the priest.
The Holy Mass is a miracle: We can be present at
Jesus’ death and resurrection and we UNITE
ourselves with him in the HOLY COMMUNION.
Do you want to see the miracle?
12.
13. I feel like Jesus is saying
“I give myself to you,
give yourself to me.
(St. Bonaventure)
14. If you are what you eat…
Then, what happens if you
often take the body of
Christ and make it the food
that feeds your soul?
18. Why?
• Because we sin.
• Our human nature is week
and give into temptation.
• We are inclined to sin
(concupiscence) since
Adam and Eve (Original
Sin).
19. WHAT IS SIN?
GENESIS CHAPTER 3
2 The woman answered the snake, 'We
may eat the fruit of the trees in the
garden. 3 But of the fruit of the tree in
the middle of the garden God said, "You
must not eat it, nor touch it, under pain
of death."'
4 Then the snake said to the woman,
'No! You will not die!
5 God knows in fact that the day you eat
it your eyes will be opened, and
you will be like gods, knowing good from
evil.'
20. What does do to us?
• It breaks our relationship with Christ; it separates us from God and
we lose Heaven (Eternal Punishment).
• Every sin destroys something in us.
• We also get Temporal Punishments (to learn to love God and our
neighbour)
21. MORTAL SIN
• It is something serious, a grave
violation of God’s law
• You know it is a sin
• You want to do it anyway
• It erases Charity in our heart
• You need a conversion of heart
and the Sacrament of
Reconciliation
• Something less serious
• You do it out of laziness,
cowardice, anger, envy,
jealously, bad habits
• It weakens Charity in our
hearts
• We need to ask God for
forgiveness and it helps to
confess them
Charity:
the love
of God
in us
x VENIAL SIN
22.
23. Mathew, Chapter 19
16 Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked,
“Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal
life?”
17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus
replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want
to enter life, keep the commandments.”
18 “Which ones?” he inquired.
Jesus replied, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not
commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not
give false testimony, 19 honor your father and
mother,’ and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’”
20 “All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What
do I still lack?”
21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell
your possessions and give to the poor, and you will
have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
22 When the young man heard this, he went away
sad, because he had great wealth.
24. What does the
sacrament
of Reconciliation do
with us?
It reconciles us with
God and the church
and gives us a new
beginning. God loves us the
way we are. But
He loves us too
much to leave us
that way.
Saint Teresa D´Avila
25. WHY CONFESS OUR SINS TO A PRIEST?
• Only God forgives sins. But Jesus entrusted the power of absolution to the
apostolic ministry.
• Gospel of John 20:21
21(Jesus) said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I
send you. 22“And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them,
"Receive the holy Spirit. 23Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose
sins you retain are retained."
• The priest is not permitted to reveal your sins to anyone. Ever!
26. How?
How often
should I confess?
Catholics are
obliged to go to
Confession at
least once a
year. But you
CANNOT have
the Holy
Eucharist if you
are in mortal sin!
You may confess
frequently.
(weekly or
monthly)
