- It is time to bring medicine home. To be truly patient-centric, we need to think about the patient before he or she leaves home, not just when the patient’s in the doctor’s office or hospital. There’s an interesting and growing role for business in this shift. These new alliances can change how we deliver health care. The trick is to match the consumer movement of engaged patients with the developing new platforms for care. This is exciting—a chance for us to work together to make significant advances in health. I see in this change a parallel that I call “moving from Blockbuster to Netflix.” Medicine is heading for the Netflix model. It’s coming home. This shift should have happened already, but I think traditional health systems have been smug and haven’t had competition.
- Digital health is causing a paradigm shift in the way that healthcare is being delivered. With the advent of these sophisticated technologies, physicians and patients alike are turning to on-demand care. From mobile access to medical records, to remote doctor tele-visits, to physicians being equipped with patient data anytime, anywhere, this individualized approach is revolutionizing the care landscape.
- Prime AI applications include clinical decision support, patient monitoring and coaching, automated devices to assist in surgery or patient care, and management of healthcare systems. Virtual Reality as a platform for surgical training allowing us to train thousands of surgeons at the same time with gloves and body suits allow us to touch and feel things in the virtual world Telemedicine will be as common as ATMs, allowing us to schedule appointments and connect with doctors anytime, anywhere
