1. STERILE URINE SPECIMEN
It is the specimen collected through
catheterization.

2.  The patient is asked not to pass
urine a few hours before the
procedure.
 For females, the vulva should
be cleaned before inserting the
urinary catheter.
 For males the glans should be
cleaned.

3. NOTE: Because catheterization
may have untoward effects a
catheter specimen is seldom
taken . A midstream specimen is
satisfactory if a sterile specimen is
required.
