This is concentrated into the Auckland Plan which will guide
Auckland’s future over the next 30 years and deliver on 7

RUGBY WORLD CUP
Auckland WiFi was developed as a
Free public open spaces WiFi network in
partnership with Auckland Council, to
make Auckland a more connected city for
our local community as well as national
and international visitors.
The coverage is focused on high volume CBD dwell areas
and some key suburban tourist spots.
The original intent of Auckland WiFi was to provide WiFi
connectivity for international visitors to the RWC 2011.
Tomizone built a network of 70 Access Points in 20 key
sites with 30 minutes of Free WiFi and then Paid options,
using ADSL internet connections.

AND CONNECTED A CITY
An upgrade was driven by Council’s vision
to be the world’s most liveable city to attract
people, events and investment to the region.
Currently, the network has expanded to 200 Access Points in
50 key sites ... and it’s still growing.
The package was extended to Free 1GB per day to drive usage
and connectivity and make it easy to get online.
Auckland WiFi was upgraded to Lightswitch, our SaaS Platform
which was built for speed, great apps and rich content.

7 /POWERED BY FIBRE CONNECTIONS
In a first for New Zealand, Tomizone installed
dedicated UFB Fibre connections into Auckland
Council owned Light Poles.
They deliver higher speed and more scalable bandwidth for
thousands of daily users to enhance their WiFi experience.
This infrastructure design also provides Auckland Council with
available technology to run additional services like CCTV for
security and traffic monitoring, using the same UFB fibre circuit.

Tomizone worked in partnership with ATEED, Auckland
Council and Area360 to develop an App known as AKL
ON to run across the Auckland WiFi network.
This app connects consumers and brands together in an Auckland City
branded mobile experience. This was part of a region wide platform that
delivers the right and relevant content based on users growing profile,
location and demographics. AKL ON makes Auckland a more connected city
with rich content, services and high profile sponsors.
When the Auckland community and visitors connected to the Auckland WiFi
network to access the AKL ON app, the landing page led them to:
•	 Learn about exciting events, tourist spots and experiences
available in Auckland
•	 Buy tickets and unique Auckland merchandise
•	 Take up special offers on activities and restaurants
•	 Access the latest information on transport, weather and flights

Auckland WiFi expanded into and around the
Otahuhu Recreation Centre in September
2015, a facility that creates a hub of activity and
focal point for the community.
Robert Lundberg (Advisor Digital Policy) says;

accessing digital content and information.
With Auckland Council’s vision to create the world’s most

TOMIZONECASESTUDY 3 /IT STARTED WITH THE 2011 RUGBY WORLD CUP Auckland WiFi was developed as a Free public open spaces WiFi network in partnership with Auckland Council, to make Auckland a more connected city for our local community as well as national and international visitors. The coverage is focused on high volume CBD dwell areas and some key suburban tourist spots. The original intent of Auckland WiFi was to provide WiFi connectivity for international visitors to the RWC 2011. Tomizone built a network of 70 Access Points in 20 key sites with 30 minutes of Free WiFi and then Paid options, using ADSL internet connections.
