1. Observed temperature change. Min temp risen by 0.7-2.0 degrees Celsius and Max by
0.2-1.3 degrees Celsius depending on season and region
2. Observed increased variability year to year of rainfall. Generally decline in rainfall during
main rainfall seasons and prolonged droughts.
3. Climate change compounded by –deforestation and land degradation (forest cover
reduced from 12% in yr 1960 to 2% at present. This has affected key water towers and
catchments for rivers and lakes
4. Climate change has affected biodiversity. Most indigenous species have dwindled
5. Kenya coastline has rich diversity of fish, coral reefs, mangrove forests yet its one of the
most vunerable to sea level rise in the world. It is estimated that 17% of Mombasa area
(4600 ha) of land area will be submerged with the sea level rising by 0.3 m
6. Maleria, cholera, tuberculosis, yellow fever etc are expected to spread as temperature
rises

12. Develop Mobile App based on Data generated through a
wireless sensor network (WSN)
• Deploy sensors to capture data in air, water and soil and relay it
to iCEOD open data platform via WSNs
• Web/mobile application developed based on real-time scientific
environmental data to inform, alert and support climate change
adaptation in agriculture, industry and in all economic activities.
• App help monitor carbon emission
• Data support policy making process on climate change for
appropriate mitigation and adaptation strategies.
