Most web applications teach something or want a viewer to remember something. Effective knowledge transfer principles can be used in web design to improve retention and performance.
This presentation is from the 2009 WebVisions conference in Portland, OR.

Maverick 30 second commercial and my bio...
So what do we do when classroom training is so ineffective? We rely on others.
People know how to learn. We don’t know how to teach. Bob is Google! story Elicit responses
Some people don’t have buckets; they have thimbles. Some people have barrels. Mentors can quickly figure this out and adjust theri teaching pace and style to match. Can’t do it in a classroom.
Excellent alignment between values, goals and training methods. Customer service --> Low tech training

Bonding and Rapport/Build credibility We help companies improve how they operate and execute through training, consulting and on-going reinforcement. We work with organizations of all sizes and in industries from A to Z. Single person start ups to Fortune 500 global giants. Food to mining to software. I mention on-going reinforcement because it’s an important part of learning, change and improvement. And sadly it’s something you’re not going to get today. At classes, workshops and even seminars like this, how much do you think research shows people retain after one week? 10 – 20%. This means you’re only going to remember about 10 – 20% of what I share with you this morning. Which means you’re not going to change today. Everybody take a deep breath and let it out. That’s the sigh of relief you should all feel. You don’t have to change today. There’s no pressure. So, relax. Listen to what I have to share with you. What I hope will happen is that you’ll come away with a few nuggets that you can take back with you.
