Storage Provider
Working Groups
Ashwanth Samuel
Startup Operator at Protocol Labs
The Filecoin Storage Provider Working
Group (SPWG) is a voluntary, non-paid
working group that allows Filecoin
storage providers of all sizes to work
collaboratively with other esteemed
storage providers on the Filecoin
network
The SPWG will ensure that all voices and
views are heard for Storage Providers of all
power sizes.
The SPWG will make sure the working groups
have an equal representation of storage
providers across different geographies and
time zones.
The SPWG will work to make sure all
resources provided are translated and
distributed in a way that reaches every
community.
The SPWG initiative has 3 main goals
Diversity in Power Size
Diversity in Geography
Equal Access
Responsibilities and Benefits of SPWG Members
Responsibilities
● Provide input and feedback on ecosystem
initiatives
● Hold leadership roles in Filecoin SP
community
● Participate in regular working group meetings
and roundtables
● Promoting equal access to helpful information
and resources for other SPs
Benefits
● Receive early previews and news on Filecoin SP
updates
● Receive funding to host events, develop resources,
and conduct gatherings that bring together local SP
community
● Participate in early programs to help test protocol
implementations on the Filecoin Network
● Contribute to the development of best practices for
content policy challenges, Filecoin documentation, and
other resources for SPs
SPWGs play a crucial role in spearheading the
growth of the SP community
SPs on why they enjoy the SPWGs
“I really enjoyed the SP in-person meetups that resulted from this group”
“Joining this group helped me find resources more easily, since sometimes documents and
answers to questions can be hard to find”
“I appreciated discussing bugs and issue requests with other SPs, and then flagging the
most pressing issues to the relevant engineering groups via PL/FF”
“It was pretty cool having sneak-peaks at the newest programs and platforms that were
being developed throughout the ecosystem”
“The networking opportunities with other SPs is unparalleled”

Large Data Onboarding
No blockchains today offer this ability
● Improve the ability for users to
retrieve data stored on the
Filecoin Network through CDN-
quality tools
● For example, an upcoming goal is
to index all of the CIDs stored in
Filecoin sectors so that anyone
with the proper indexer code
can retrieve data from an SP
● Ensure that Filecoin can support
onboarding the chain
bandwidth that Storage
Providers are bringing to the
Network
● Future projects will make it easier,
more efficient, cheaper, and
more reliable to onboard data
and capacity to the Network
● Implement the Filecoin Virtual
Machine to unlock a range of new
tooling on the Network (more on
following page)
● Ability to run
‘compute-over-data’, or
programs that access data, stored
in Filecoin sectors, and conduct
computation and re-store that data
in new Filecoin sectors, while
iterating
There are three main components of the Filecoin
roadmap over the next 4 quarters

increase reliability
Enables a Mediator to
charge a small fee and
replicate a deal ‘N’ times,
saving a client time and
overhead
Allows for independent
Networks to be built on top of
Filecoin to conduct
specialized tasks, while
inheriting the security properties
of the Filecoin Network
Enables smart contracts on
other blockchains, (e.g.,
Ethereum), to access
Filecoin Storage in a
trustless manner
Creates new market
primitives such as storage
bounties, where SPs
could compete to win
deals, bringing down the
price of storage for clients
Introduces
permissionless code
running autonomously
on-chain to guarantee
the continuation and
renewal of immutably

Provides features to
make Data DAOs –
DAOs that aim to
preserve, curate,
augment, and
promote high-value
datasets – a reality
Enables chain
monitoring on the
clients behalf for any
faults or deal
expirations, and
proactively replicating
deal data to more SPs
in accordance with a
user-defined policy
Improves the capital
efficiency in the
Filecoin economy by
matching token
holders with storage
providers seeking
liquidity to fund their
operations
Could help SPs
fundraise for staking
collateral, or distribute
risk of faults across a
community – investors
receive revenue for
purchasing risk for fees
Provides a way to
smooth predictability
of future costs and
returns which may
bring stability to this
market and reduce risk

Filecoin Green
Marc Johnson
Environmental Solutions Architect at Protocol Labs
Filecoin Green is building tools to verifiably decarbonize Filecoin, with
the generality necessary to do the same across web3 and the broader
economy
I. We evaluated the energy use of the Filecoin network,
turning it into the most transparent major blockchain for
electricity consumption.
II. We are connecting the network to renewable energy, and
allowing nodes to prove exactly where and how renewable
energy is generated to store client data.
III. We support Filecoin Storage Providers in becoming more
sustainable through guidance and green grants.
IV. We are building an environmental web3 developer
community through monthly meetups, hackathons,
grants, and more.

Supporting Storage
Providers to become
verifiably sustainable
Building off of the work by the Rocky Mountain
Institute, WattTime, and guidance from industry
groups, we have published:
Green Guidance for Sustainable Filecoin
Storage Providers (SPs)
This document proposes a set of best practices
for SPs to follow in order to report and verifiably
reduce their environmental footprint.

Big Data Exchange
CB Tan
How does BigData Exchange help SPs?
● A consistent, transparent and efficient pipeline of Fil+
deals
○ Improved service economics
○ No need for internal BD team to source for clients
with DataCap
○ Due diligence done on all listings
○ Efficient usage of sealing and storage hardware
● Build up reputation for Web3 data service market
○ Lower marketing costs
○ Transparency, reliability, trust, creditworthiness
● Mobilization of resources, teams, capital
○ Efficient deal-making process
○ Preparing, transferring, sealing and storing of data
can be distinct functions, resulting in more
efficiency
Clarifications
● We are primarily a marketplace to match SPs with clients of
DataCap
● BigData Exchange does apply for DataCap
○ Understand the process to help onboard non-crypto
native data communities
○ Maintain momentum to ensure both sides of the
marketplace grow in tandem
○ We are not profiting from DataCap; proceeds will be
used to fund causes to advance Filecoin’s mission

Problem
Storage Providers and Clients do not have a simple
discovery tool to find other Filecoin Storage Providers
SPs have difficulty sourcing deals and marketing
themselves to other SPs and clients
Existing Problems for SPs
Lead
Generation
Performance
Marketing
Deal-making
SPs must attract each client or even other
SPs… leads are a necessity
Not easy for SPs to prove a history of their
deals/contracts
Cumbersome for SPs to market and brand
themselves to new audiences
No standardized way to make deals exists
across various clients
Solution
Filgram creates a discovery platform for SPs and Clients to
make storage deals
SPs can utilize Filgram to source new deals and market
themselves to other SPs and clients
Lead
Generation
Performance
Marketing
Deal-making
Filgram provides a solution for SPs
SPs can utilize this as an additional inflow for
clients and other SPs who are interested in
storing data
SPs have an UI friendly history of
transactions and deals that serve as a proof
of acting in ‘good faith’
SPs can share contact info and promote
factors that matter to clients e.g.
qualifications, certifications, etc.
Provides a standardized and consistent
way for SPs to accept deals from net-new
clients
Deal-making capabilities will continue to be built out and improved over time

No blockchains today offer this ability ● Improve the ability for users to retrieve data stored on the Filecoin Network through CDN- quality tools ● For example, an upcoming goal is to index all of the CIDs stored in Filecoin sectors so that anyone with the proper indexer code can retrieve data from an SP ● Ensure that Filecoin can support onboarding the chain bandwidth that Storage Providers are bringing to the Network ● Future projects will make it easier, more efficient, cheaper, and more reliable to onboard data and capacity to the Network ● Implement the Filecoin Virtual Machine to unlock a range of new tooling on the Network (more on following page) ● Ability to run ‘compute-over-data’, or programs that access data, stored in Filecoin sectors, and conduct computation and re-store that data in new Filecoin sectors, while iterating There are three main components of the Filecoin roadmap over the next 4 quarters 31 Programmability and Computation Data Retrievability Capacity + Data Onboarding
