Raspberry Pi 5: Challenges and Solutions in Bringing up an OpenGL/Vulkan Driv...
Personal Statement
1. Media is a subject that opens many different and creative opportunities, which is what I find
most appealing about the subject. What's interesting about media is that it's a part of our
everyday lives and comes in many different forms such as television, radio, social media,
newspapers and many more, showing the variety of opportunities that a degree in this subject
could lead to.
As I said before, this degree would open many opportunities and could lead to different career
options. Although I am still undecided on a specific job role, I know what I am passionate about,
and that media is the correct career sector for me. From my creative media course at college, I
have been able to explore the different crew roles needed to create certain projects which has
helped me learn more about myself, such as what roles I excel at and what I find the most
interesting. My course has also taught me a lot more about the industry, how to create a pitch, all
the research and pre-planning that needs to be carried out before a production, different camera
techniques and how to use editing software's such as premier pro, photoshop and aftereffects to
put my work together. Some skills I have not learned but developed from my course, enhancing
my skills such as script writing and creating posters. At GCSE, English language is what I
excelled in out of all my subjects due to my fondness for writing, which helped with my
performing arts level 2 technical award where it was common that we had to become our own
scriptwriters and public relations, coming up with ideas for our theatre production, writing the
scripts, creating posters and other advertisements.
Due to my keen interest in music, outside of my time at college I spend a considerable amount
creating band photography for some small local music groups for my own portfolio and for their
social media accounts. Also, during October of this year I started work experience at a company
named Meash Media where I got to learn first-hand about the industry and what is involved.
With this company I got to shadow the professionals as well as creating my own content using
their equipment and guidance, experimenting more with my photography in a professional
setting and using software's like Canva to create promotions for company’s where Meash Media
manage their social media accounts.
During my time in education, I have also had part time jobs working at companies such as
Primark, Tesco and Domino’s Pizza as well as volunteering for the Royal British Legion.
Although these jobs are not relevant to my course, they have helped me to excel in other areas.
All roles were customer-facing and helped me develop my confidence, because of this I was able
to network with more people. For example, I independently reached out and visited Sunderland
Empire during hours that it was closed to film for a segment of one of my documentary projects,
as well as networking with several different local bands for my photography.
Over the summer of 2021 I completed two virtual, work experience courses with Springpod,
each lasting two weeks. I completed one course in Journalism and one in TV and Film. During
these courses I gained a sound understanding of the inner-workings and concepts related to the
courses, the skills needed to pursue a career in these industries and the ability to successfully
apply knowledge gained by completing quizzes and interactive tasks. I also completed a Virtual
Bitesize University Summer School from the 23rd of August to the 26th of August 2021 to learn
more about the University application process, student finance, student life, subject taster
2. sessions and other important aspects of university, while also interacting with my team in group
challenges and quizzes.
With my eager and passionate attitude for the industry as well as the many different
opportunities the media sectors will bring, a degree linking to it will certainly help me with my
future as well as increasing my chances of being successful.
