May The Force Be With You at Sunderland University’s Murray Library, 10/10/2022
The event was lead by Lord David Puttnam. Puttnam is a British film producer, educator,
environmentalist and former member of the House of Lords.
We learnt about the impact of streaming, past companies like Blockbuster that has since shut
down, due to the effects of streaming as well as the progression of Netflix and its popularity.
Puttnam talked about all different types of industries, and which were the most successful,
showing how gaming and streaming were the making the most money with gaming making $153
billion and streaming receiving $256 billion.
The event was set up by North East Screen as part of Sunderland Business week, where work
experience and other events were also mentioned in case we would like to attend, such as a crew
bootcamp. This bootcamp would help us get more practical skills needed for the industry and a
better insight into a potential future career path if we have not yet decided on a specific niche.
